I’d be lost without my gimbal.. it allows me camera to quickly follow birds in flight, provides smooth steady panoramas, and gives my camera versatility at a million angles. Great product, good price!

This is an extremely well made piece of equipment. Once mounted on a good quality his capacity ball head, it gives you full gimbal motion without having to remove the ball head, I mounted a Nikon D810 with the Nikon 200-500 zoom, and it was perfectly balanced once i had used a Wimberley 30 longer Arca Swiss style plate. It would balance with the plate from the ball head, but i was not happy with the amount of plate that was under the clamp. On the Wimberley site you can check the lens you will be using and they will recommend the appropriate plate to use. Worked perfectly. Some sites say the sidekick does not balance as well as the full Wimberley because you don’t have a vertical adjustment. I did not find it a problem at all. Very happy with the purchase.

I use this gimbal for birding and sports photography, combined with a monopod. The build quality is great and it is compact, so I can stash it easily in my bag. I added handlebar grip tape to mine to make it grippier and nicer to hold in the cold.

Works with my existing Sirui K30X ball head on my Sirui3204x tripod and a Tamron 150-600mm Lens. Smooth, intuitive operation helps me lock in on birds in flight for sharp images. I also use it to photograph other wildlife like deer, beavers, bobcat etc because it lets me get more keepers in the low light of dawn and dusk when these animals are out.

When I got my 500/4 I realized I may have to go with a Wimberly or similar, tried it one day with just the ball head and knew I would! I didn't want to go with the full Wimberly, still wanted to use my ball head with smaller lenses, and I didn't even know this thing existed. Works great, is solid, and provides an excellent handle when left on the lens/camera. I would not hike with it, it would provide a moment arm to the clamp on your ballhead and easily loosen it; remove it and attach lens to the ballhead directly while hiking.

According to Adorama "We know you're busy enjoying your Wimberley SK-100 Sidekick Gimbal Head Adapter for Arca-Swiss Style". Actually, I am not busy enjoying it, I haven't used it., but I guess they think they know what I am busy doing.

First Wimberley product I ever purchased, and the quality really shows! At first I was tempted to go with the cheaper alternatives from other brands - glad I didn't! It being made in USA is a plus, and is reflected in the quality.

The Sidekick by Wimberley is a quality built product that supports my longest lens without a problem. It is smooth and easy to use and packs away in your bag easily. I was able to keep my ball head intact and the sidekick is fast to mount and unmount. I highly recommend this product. very satisfied with the product.

Wimberley is known for its quality products and the Sidekick doesn't disappoint. I purchased the SK-100 to replace a cheaper full-body gimbal head that just wasn't providing fluid motion for my 300mm f/2.8. The build quality provides complete peace of mind. The price point is reasonable, given the quality the and the size is awesome.

I use this in combination with my Gitzo tripod, Benro B-3 Ball Head, Sigma 150-500 telephoto zoom lens, and my Nikon D7000. I chose the Wimberley Sidekick because I needed gimbal functionality for working with a long heavy telephoto lens in the outdoors, and purchasing and carrying a extra dedicated tripod and gimbal head is out of the question. The Sidekick fits easily into my camera backpack and weighs just 19.72 oz. It is ruggedly designed to the extent that I don't see it ever failing to perform as expected. Mounting it on the ball head (needs a rugged ballhead) is a snap. Mounting the camera lens to the Sidekick and balancing prior to use is also a snap. Note that each lens will need its own Arca-Swiss style mounting plate. I have nothing but good things to say about this fine piece of equipment.

Better than expected

Works with my existing Sirui K30X ball head on my Sirui3204x tripod and a Tamron 150-600mm Lens. Smooth, intuitive operation helps me lock in on birds in flight for sharp images. I also use it to photograph other wildlife like deer, beavers, bobcat etc because it lets me get more keepers in the low light of dawn and dusk when these animals are out.
The Wimberley SK-100 Sidekick quickly converts any ballhead with an Arca-style quick release clamp into a gimbal head. This allows the lens to rotate around its center of gravity, dramatically improving handling and vibration dampening. Your percentage of 'keeper' shots will definitely go up using this device with telephotos with a tripod collar.
Ideal for 300mm f/2.8 or 500mm f/4.5 lenses, but also works great with 70-200/f 2.8 telephoto zooms or macro lenses with tripod collars such as the 180mm f/3.5 & 400mm f/5.6's made today. When the tripod collar is fitted in the Sidekick properly, you will have perfect 50/50 weight distribution, making movement of the lens and camera finger-light.
The Sidekick, when combined with an appropriate ballhead with an Arca-type quick release clamp & independent panning lock as well as an appropriate quick release plate, makes for an incredible combination to provide control of spotting scopes. This is likely the best possible scenario for tracking a bird in flight, but will require a spotting scope with a rotating tripod collar in order to be ergonomically practical.
