This is very well designed and built, but not quite perfect: the pan axis of rotation does not intersect with the lens optical axis. While this is a minor quibble and will likely be irrelevant to nearly all photographers, why is it not completely perfect in every respect when it could easily gave been?

Excellent product, easily assembled and set up for a perfect balance on a long, heavy lens/camera combo. Easy to use and pan. Glad I went with this instead of a ball head. Very happy!

Quality gimbal that does exactly what it was designed for. It makes long lens photography manageable for moving or still subjects. Sooooo much better than trying to use the lens on a ball head!

I love shooting birds and wildlife and I needed something more and this was it. It sets up nicely and works just as advertised. So nicely balanced and great for my large lens and even my Kowa spotting scope. I am using it with a Velbon tripod and it is a bit heavy on a long trek. For me that is the only downside. I got the long Arca Swiss plate for the scope and the foot attachment for my Sony 200-600mm. For doing animal and bird photography this is a must have!

This gimbal head is a game changer for my wildlife photography. My only regret is not buying one sooner! super easy to assemble, easy to use etc vastly superior to a ball head

Great addition. Once set up properly with my camera and lens (balanced correctly), it really was easy to maneuver the camera as needed to follow wildlife.

Good sturdy gimbal head but I was disappointed with the panning movement when compared with other heads of a similar weight and price point. That said, it does its job and holds my 600mm f4 well!

It works fantastic. Smooth flow, and movements but there was no warning that I needed to order a foot for my lens separate from the gimble head

WAS EVERYTHING I EXPECTED HOLDS MY LONG LENSE WITH EASE AND MAKES IT SIMPLY TO TRACK MOVING SUBJECTS.

I purchased this because I am not the most steady person there is to hold a camera with a bigger lens. I had read a few reviews and articles on this one and decided I would give it a try. I am not as all disappointed. It is heavy duty and works great. Nice smooth operation and movements.

This is a solid investment. I am very pleased. It is so stable, I feel confident letting my very nice Canon L lens rest there, unattended (in the house, no kids.)I had to look up what connectors I actually needed on the Wimberely site. I asked on Adorama and a guy answered that I needed ALL the plates/attachments. At $, that would have been a lot! Of course one only needs the attachments for the lenses you intend to mount on the gimble head. Research. Expensive, but I am glad I took the plunge. Now I can manhandle the ten-pound camera/lens combo better, with more stability, and for a longer time... important with bird photography.

This is a solid piece of equipment that will make your use of long lenses a joy to work with. Coupled with a sturdy tripod and you will not go wrong

I did research before buying by talking to pros and watching videos. To me it works as it is designed but it is a little costly.I like to buy quality over satisfactory. If you can afford it i do not think you will be disappointed. I do wish it had a lever clamp instead of the knob.I would buy again because my photos are a little sharper than with my ball head i was using. Dennis

Without question, the most reliable gimbal head on the market. Bought it to take to Norway, photographing birds and bears from ship. Outstanding.

I am using the Wimberley WH-200 tripod head with Canon's EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM super-telephoto lens. This tripod head is essential for wildlife work, especially for flight photography of birds. The build quality and accessory line are excellent. I am using Wimberley's F-9 flash bracket when doing flash photography. The lens platform quickly and easily attaches to the tripod head, but follow the user's guide or online videos to ensure proper vertical height of the platform and horizontal placement of any given lens to achieve proper balance. The tripod head is somewhat heavy at 3.15 pounds, and it lacks a built-in or included bubble level. Tension controls must provide some friction, yet allow movement of the lens in all directions, to ensure sharp images. Any heavy lens will move as if weightless when properly mounted and balanced on this tripod head. Your lens must have an Area-Swiss style plate or replacement foot to attach to this tripod head.

This is a must for large telephoto lenses. Easy to set up and balance. I bought this for a Nikon D850/grip attached to a 300mm f/2.8, a perfect combination.

If you want consistent performance from a gimbal head this is the one. A little heaver than others, but it's amazing!

This is a classic tripod head for balancing a long lens. Great for bird tracking or anything moving..I do not use it too much. It is a specialty item. I thought it was on sale when I bought it as it was on the adorama sale page. Then this week I saw it for less.

I totally love this head, should have got it YEARS ago to hold those big lenses. I'd stayed away from the gimbal concept as I thought they were clumsy and hard to get used to. Not the case for me. With just a moment or two of setup, the balance of a big lens is awesome, takes all the work out of managing the big glass. Much easier to follow moving wildlife than when I was using the big glass on a ball head, even when just loose. I would buy it again, in fact I did when my tripod and head was stolen recently.

Very easy to set up and it works great. Won’t be using by ball head anytime soon.

Granted, if the heaviest glass is something like 100-400, this would be an overkill But Iir you’re operating 300/2.8 or 400/4 or similar, you must have an adequate support. It is expensive and heavy, but you do need something like that to support your far more expensive and even heavier glass. I’m using it for my 200-400/4..5.6 x1.4, works awesome. No single regret. .

Since I now have a D500 I got this to go along with my long bird lenses and boy does it make a difference. The camera/lens combo balances so nicely and makes getting sharp clear images at 10fps so easy. If you are into wildlife photography this sure is a nice addition that will last you a lifetime. It is built like a tank! You'll love it.

Solid professional quality gimble head. Thought about getting a less expensive gimble head but after reading reviews, watching videos and talking to other wildlife photographers I spent the extra money so I wouldn't have to worry about performance issues. I have used this unit a short time now and I am glad I made the decision to go with the Wimberly! It is smooth and solidly built. I am sure it will give me years of trouble free service.

If you're like me and can't hand hold long lenses anymore then this gimbal is for you. I'm a birder and shoot with a 150-600 mm lens that is very hard to hand hold at 600mm. Getting my gimbal was the best decision I ever made. I can mount the lens using my Manfretto tripod with the gimbal and take easy photos at 600mm and get clear close up pictures. It swizzles, tilts and has fluid movements.

This gimbal head works extremely smooth when paired with my Gitzo mountaineer tripod. It allows me to maintain focus on birds in flight without concern for mechanical issues.

O have a Nikon 400/2.8 G VR that I use with a Dr and D500 and sometimes a 1.4x TC. I bought a bullhead with "gimbal function" for shooting surfing. I use a monopod for all of the other sports I shoot. One day, the jerky panning of the bullhead started making noises and then froze. I called it a day. At home, I tried to adjust the panning base and it came off. I shudder to think what would've happened if I had my 400 on it. I bough the WH-200. Tracking and panning are effortless - one finger will do it. I used it to check the AF Fine Tune by locking it up on the target. If my bullhead comes back repaired, I have no idea when I'll use it. The Wimberley does it all. If you have a long lenses, get this. Don't mess around with cheaper brands and try to save $$$. It'll cost you more in the end. You'll only end up here. Many of the other gimbals don't have vertical height adjustment. You want that. Solid, does what it's supposed to do - it's the way to go.

I had always felt I never needed one, until a friend talked me into trying his. No more super tired hands, wrists and arms, balancing the load on a ball head. The best part of this Gimbal head is, you can take both hands off of your camera, and it stays right where you left it, just waiting for action. No unlocking anything, just use it.

Unless I am going hiking, I will never use a ball mount head again! This head is too big and heavy for hiking. But then again, if I anticipate a wildlife shot, I might just carry it anyway. These gimbal heads work very differently than a ball mount. Once you balance your camera, you can point it in any direction and it will stay put without even locking it down. It's as though your rig is weightless. You don't have to try to hold your camera steady while you lock it down as with a ball. You ...

i think it is an excellent sweet spot of cost and quality

I researched a number of gimbal heads prior to my purchase of the WH-200. Dealing with Adorama was great. The product came a day or two before promised. The packaging was solid, and the head was flawless. The WH-200is solidly built, and attractively designed. Most importantly, it works great! I decided to upgrade from ball heads because they always tended to drift. It is easy to balance my camera and any number of lenses (long and short). Once balanced, the camera stays aimed- a real...
