Smart film converter for taking super 8 and 8 mm films to digital. Sometime cumbersome in loading and getting started. If you many roles to convert, this is a cost effective solution.

I wish it could directly reproduce a range of frame rates other than 30fps (ie. repeat frames for 6fps or 24fps).

So far I have transferred 20 film and love it! I captures the clarity I wanted and the color. It does take a while but it will be worth the wait!! Very satisfied!

I converted one 5 minute super8. It worked well. I plan to convert a lot. Wonder if 1980s Sony 8 mm can be converted?

I’m a professional video producer but years ago I transferred film to video, millions of feet of film, and I expected a flawless design from Wolverine, what I found was a very finicky machine, very sensitive to the splices and condition of the film. That said, for home use it’s Okay, very slow to scan the frames so making money with it would be questionable. I did have trouble loading the film in the gate, perhaps a more nimble younger person would not have any issue with that. Focus and exposure were also a bit tedious, so you need to be with the machine all the time, and have the ability to import the files for editing and sweetening.

Arrived quickly. Works like a dream. The only negative thing is the takeaway reel is too small to hold a 9 inch reel. I had a reel that was only half full though so I left it on the takeaway and used the empty 9 inch it was on as a takeaway reel. Easy fix.

I ordered this machine even when the site said "currently on backorder" so I was sceptical but it arrived within a week. So far after some needed frame adjustments at first (which are simple to do) I have transferred about 6 9" reels without issue or need for readjustment and good quality. The only thing I didn't like was the size of the take up reel supplied with the machine it was only 5" so you will need to order a larger reel if you do not have one. This was an upgrade from a smaller wolverine machine and I am pleased.

The unit will not scan on track. The gear that moves the film skips. Not an easy was to stop and correct. The counter will go higher while you try to correct. The warranty will be void after it gets to 200.

I know of no other device that converts 8mm celluloid film to a digital MP4 file. It works well with film in good condition; if your film has splices or other damage, you may have some difficulties requiring restarts. The device would be better if the film passed through a pair of soft brushes to remove dust, before passing the digitizing screen. Always check the display without film loaded, before starting a film recording; if any dust is on the digitizing screen, it will be visible throughout the recorded image. Clean the digitizing screen if needed. I like this device, and it is worth the price to preserve the images on old film.

The machine was smaller than I thought. I have transferred 80 film rolls with very little trouble. Many of the standard length rolls scanned to the end without me baby sitting it. Image quality is acceptable but don't expect miracles. It still looks like an old movie and there is no automatic image correction. Amazingly im still on 1 micro sd card 32gig. All my movies might fit on one. I wish it recorded at 15fps to match the original. Without conversion the movies run obviously faster than original. Also for the price you would think it would have a quick rewind. Don't bother. I leave the spool on and place a cordless drill mounted with a hole saw bit with the pilot bit taken out. It works perfectly, quickly, and does no damage to the reel sprocket. Even with its faults its a pretty nice machine and am so happy to see these old films again to share with others.

Excellent! Works great. You want to monitor while it is working (don't turn on & leave) just in case any abnormalities in film which could cause to be off frame. This happened only once on one of my films but was easy to remedy. Set back & read a good book or something while it does all the work!

My large family calls our new Wolverine “Our Memories Machine.” The older generation refreshes fading memories of that special day they shot the scene, and the actors, now grown, laugh and sometimes shed a nostalgic tear seeing themselves in the old neighborhood playing with pets and pals long gone. The kids cannot believe mom, dad, uncles, and aunts were once kids, too, now appearing on TV. Converting the old Super 8 and 8mm took some time, but it could not have been easier, and all of us, and some day a new generation will have their own favorite TV sit-com. I can’t imagine a product that will bring more joy. Write your review here. It must be at least 10 characters long. Consider whether you would recommend this product and what you like or dislike about it.

I started using the Wolverine about a week ago and have digitalized quite some movies already. The process is quite straightforward, however it also is quite tedious, and time consuming. It is great to see old movies that you hardly ever looked at come to life, where output quality is acceptable on smaller displays, but real quality is better seen through a projector. Few impressions: + Movies very easily need to be vertically adjusted in position due to some likely randomness in film camera. You either adjust and scan again (which I have to do a lot), or zoom in and lose the sides of the movie while digitalizing + You regularly need to clean the display as small particles our easily shows as larger dots on the scanned movie. For larger reels I break the scanning process regularly to check for cleanliness and then continue or re-scan portions. The movies I scan are decades old, it is easily that particles settle on the display, hence this issue + The reel counter does not make sense for keeping track of the amount of reels scanned. I have to stop/re-start/re-do scans regulry and each time the counter increments. The number is useful to use as output file name, but not to count reels scanned + Output MP4s are very easily post-processed by apps like MovieMaker Summary: I love my childhood movies come to live. Quality of output is acceptable, no more, but good enough for its purpose. For this I recommend the product

Quality of transfer is a bit grainy (compression artifacts) but adequate for ease of sharing. Certainly not good enough to throw away the originals. The machine has difficulty with splices as noted in other reviews. This can be problematic for larger reels of spliced together 50ft rolls. Also, the brass bushing seized to the output shaft(pickup reel) after 5 transfers. I opened up the gearbox, managed to separate the bushing and lubed it with the Vaseline type lube from the inside of the gearbox. Seems ok so far after about another 30 transfers. Not ideal for someone uncomfortable with taking the machine apart.

The dollar value of the product is Good. I copied over 3000ft of 8mm film without any issues. I would recommend that the takeup reel has more friction built into it to keep the film from falling off the larger reels with 500 ft of film on it.

I am the guy in our family who inherited boxes of old photos, slides, videotapes and yes, 8mm film. I purchased one of those converter boxes where you shoot the film projector into a reflector where your video camera is recording it. It was a hassle and the quality wasn't great, not to mention that it was a huge time commitment. This device allowed me to start a reel, insert the memory card, and let it run. I was also very impressed with the quality that it provided. I only wish that it would have been available when I converted the film the first time. I am now halfway through re-converting these old family films and I couldn't be more impressed with the ease and the quality it produces.

I plugged it in and it ran flawlessly through 15 reels. need to keep an eye on it as it will hang on a broken sprocket hole but otherwise, it ran perfectly.

The scanned video seems almost of the same quality as the original film. Framing control works well. Occasionally film advance sticks for no apparent reason so you must monitor the transfer process to keep it going - but reel film was that way too in the projector!

Write your review here. It must be at least 10 characters long. Consider whether you would recommend this product and what you like or dislikI do local transfer work on the side and thought these scanners would be a decent budget option for people who wanted to see their films again. I purchased 3 of these scanners. 2 were defective out of the box. The 3rd started having issues after 2 months. Every time you start and stop the scanner there's a counter that names the files. Once you hit 200 your warranty with the manufacturer is void. Which you have to restart the scanner every time there's a broken sprocket or bad splice, so I hit 200 after only 30-40 reels. If you do manage to get a working unit, the scans do come out looking okay, like Costco transfer quality, if your film is in great shape. If the color is slightly tinted, the auto white balance will heavily tint your scan blue. If your film has even become slightly misshapen/warped over the years your scan will be extremely unstable/shaky. 2 of the times I contacted the manufacturer because the units were defective out of the box, they said everything they could to convince me that the problem was with my film and not their scanner. Wolverine Data should be ashamed of this product and their business practices. I've never had buyers remorse like I have had with this piece of garbage.e about it.

It seems to work really well. Film is easy to thread and image adjustments are easy. It is not a 'set it and forget it' tool - you must monitor the device. Film will stop advancing if a sprocket is damaged. Sometimes the frame drifts and stopping and adjusting is necessary. But, for $ to scan each frame of 8mm film, this is a great tool at a great price!

The Wolverine converter arrived in short order. And after a brief setup, I was off and running in converting 38- 7 inch reels of 8 and super 8mm Kodak movie film from afar back as 1956. The film was still in good shape. The machine ran fine, the constant tick-ticking of the machine becomes hypnotic in time, but the constant ticking alerted me of any problems in its operation. After completing one-half of my 38 reels of movie film, some 7,000 feet, the machine is still ticking away at its intended job of doing it converting as it was designed to do. The 38 reels of 7 inch reels have a capacity of 400 feet, so 400 times 38 equal some 14,000 feet of move film that this wonderful device has to convert. It has and will take me 30 days to complete the 38 reel conversion. I highly recommend this machine to any and all who want a reliable conversion of their 8 and super 8 film. Also, I have used the Wolverine slide and strip film converter and was most pleased with its operation and quality work on the finished product. Loel

The Wolverine unit allows the average person (or a company) to create digital files out of 8mm and super 8 movie film, that you know from the description. The important part are the details and I am happy to share them after having run nearly 150 films through the machine. SIMPLE TO USE: The instructions are brief because it isn't complicated. Thread the film. Select the film type. Use the menu to set the framing, the focus and the contrast. You'll see a preview in the LED screen. FEATURES: The unit takes SD cards up to 32 gb to record the resulting file. At 25 mb for 50 foot roll of film, that is good for a number of recordings. The resulting file is an MP4 that can be viewed by most video applications or can be uploaded to YouTube. The machine will shut off automatically when the card is full, which means you won't have to back up and figure where it left off. The machine isn't without some issues. - The compression they use to create the small file size results in a lot of unattractive compression artifacts, especially visible when you enlarge the video on your screen. - Imperfect film often causes the machine to jam and jam often, meaning that you should be in close proximity as the machine does its work. This includes some films manufactured out of the country and with uneven thickness to it. - The unit does not come with a video editing program or even a recommendation on one. Even a download link to one would be a nice effort. Those serious about preserving their films will also want to use a video editing program to trim scenes, adjust color and watching speed, and even reduce the grain and artifacting. Beware, some programs can take up to 2 hours to de-artifact a seven minute film. It is a frame by frame process. So why rate it five stars? Because nothing is perfect and the price point makes this machine a godsend for those with a large collection of films to preserve. Comparing that price with the up to 40 cents companies charge to do film conversions (plus sometimes a media fee as well) means that you can break even in as few as 25 typical home film reels (50 ft x .40 cents/ft x 25 reels). I will be posting some instructional videos on how to get the most from the machine over the next few weeks. Look for OtherPeoplesFamilies channel on YouTube for recording examples and instructional videos.
