My local Yamaha store is closing so they're clearing their products and I took advantage of that buying this amazing bass at a third of its selling price. If I had the money to buy it on its real price I would've bought 2. Simply put, it has so much output that it put my Hartke HD 150 in for some work, no other bass had ever put it in trouble. And that's only its output. Its tone is off the roof too, I preferred the toggle system over my other PJ bass with the regular balancing the pickups. It came intonated off the box so that's a big plus Overall, the best bass I can come up with on this price point, by a mile.

This hands down is the best passive bass I've ever played.Ultra versatile bass both pickups are super rich ,they produce unique tones for which the BB basses are well known. That bass has some really deep growl, high rich tones, you can play many styles of music funk, jazz, rock, heavy rock, metal if you wish, blues, modern music it's all there.Love it!!!The pickups are very hot, they sound like an active ones which I love about them, the P pickup is very nice classic precision bass sound, the mix between the P and the J pickups give some rich powerful blend, the J pickup is really nice, burpy and powerful as it's supposed to be.My second bass is TRBX504 which I love and adore ,the third one will be either BB434M or BB734A .Love Yamaha I have plenty of Yamaha gear in my home studio and I think Yamaha always gives you more for what you paid.Exactly how it should be done.Others manufactures must learn from Yamaha's example .Well done Yamaha, you're the best!!!

[I ended up taking this bass back, but only because I was looking for a Maple fingerboard] The BB424 absolutely blew me away, and that was before I looked at the price. Of all the basses I tried in the stores, it had the cleanest acoustic tone with good, clean notes with virtually no buzz. I played ones twice the cost that came with about 3x the buzzing. Not to mention that the BB424 reacts exceptionally well to all styles of playing; slap, picking or fingerstyle. I didn't like the way Yamaha mounted the "P" pickup in this one, though. With two screws on one side, you would have to stick with the stock electronics (which were really nothing to sniff at), or go through some body mods to accomodate a "standard shape" P pickup. Really, it wasn't that big of a deal, because as I said, the electronics sounded pretty good. There is hum in the J pickup, and with gain it can get pretty noisy, but for the price, you sort of have to expect it. Nothing a quick lining with foil or copper shielding won't help fix, anyway. For me, the only major drawback was the single master volume control. I prefer a volume for each the P and J pickups, with a master tone. That is, however, just my preference, and I can't fault the bass for that, really. Overall, a great playing bass, at about half the cost of instruments that are SUPPOSED to play this well.
