I purchased a new old stock Yamaha CD-S1000 a few months ago and I am quite happy with it. The unit is well built and solid. I based my decision on the desire to return to the basics of just playing SACDs and CDs, no inputs or playing of files. I have the CS-S1000 plugged into my Yamaha A6A using Audioquest Sydney interconnects and the amplified sound fed to a pair of Monitor Audio SIlver S8. I could go on and on, but let's just say this setup sounds amazing playing classical and jazz. Yamaha excels at reproducing music and deep extended bass that is so smooth and rich that one just has to hear it to believe it. I have multiple source players connected to the same system, a Sony XA20ES, Denon 2900 and Marantz CD 4001. All sound incredible, but the Yamaha CD-S1000 takes performance to a whole different level. Let's hope Yamaha reintroduces this line of SACD players because I know that I am not the only fan!

I still have a substantial SACD collection and I wanted a new player to replace my 20 year old Sony unit. I've always liked Yamaha (and have other Yamaha gear - modern and vintage). After a lot of reading, I settled on the CD-S1000. It arrived (from HiFi Heaven - great folks) well boxed by Yamaha and upon unboxing it was just beautiful. Very well built with solid aluminum faceplate, very nice wood side panels, and quality components. This is a no-frills player, so don't expect network streaming and all that. The sound quality is excellent - resolves tons of detail and is worthy of the best SACDs. Just very solid all around. It uses the same remote as the other better Yamaha components (which is not the best by the way - finicky at times) so I can use it with my integrated amp as well. My only complaint, and it's minor, is that from the time you load a CD until it's ready for playing is several seconds. But I can live with that. I read some complaints that there were some reliability issues. I have never had an issue with any other Yamaha component, so I'm hoping those issues were in the tiny percentile of failures that cannot be avoided with any component. If this player holds up to use, it's definitely one of my favorite components.

As if I'm hearing my music collection for the first time...fantastic musicality from this unit. SACDs sound incredible. Built like a tank and a handsome unit. Could not be happier with this purchase.

A solid, well-built, CD transport. First and foremost the sound quality is incredibly transparent and accurate. Compared to my previous player my CD collection now has an accurate lower end. The styling is spot on for my tastes. It is connected to a Michi X5 and enjoyed through a pair Bowers and Wilkins 703 S2s. #sweepstakes

I have this player connected to my Yamaha RX-V4A home theater receiver and the sound coming out of my system is mind blowing. This player is well built and I love the wooden side panels. They make it look classy and industrial. I've always liked Yamaha for the audio products. They are reliable and built to last.

The sound of this thing is amazing, it extracts all the nuances and subtleties of your recordings, yet in a smooth and natural way, very analogue sounding. Well mastered Red Book CDs sound very good, SACDs even better; if you want to hear an exact copy of a master tape, SACD DSD is the way to go. It's built like a tank and -unlike tacky-flashy American made audiophile components- this Yamaha has a stylish and refined design. Great product.

Part of my primary audio system connected to a Yamaha RX-A 3070 AV system through RCA connections. For the cost of this product, there should be a trigger connection. Otherwise happy with the product. Would have given it 5 stars if it had a trigger connection.

I was first concerned before the purchase because the Cd S1000 been around a few years. So I wasn't sure if it would pleasing to my ears. I had the privilege to demo it at Take5 Audio in Connecticut. And man I sounded just as good as a 3,000. Player( wouldn't mention brand) . So I am pleased hooking it up to my Yamaha A S1200. I have become a Yamaha fan, love there sound and built quality.

This is replacement for 12-year-old Sony SCD-777ES (one of the best SACD players ever). The new Yamaha CD-S1000 is up to the challenge, sound is spectacular at 1/3 the list price of the aging Sony. I play it through 6 vacuum tube preamp and Bryston 300W/channel amp. Speakers are my own acoustic suspension design, 4-way with 15" woofers, 8" mids, 2 ribbon tweeters each, and custom built crossovers. Build and design of S1000 appear to be very strong. I could not be happier with the sound, including not only SACD, but also well-engineered CDs.

This is the best sounding CD player i have ever owned. It plays standard red book CDs in very high resolution. Above all this player is musical and draws really draws you in. The sound stage is wide and there is alot of air around musical instruments. Build quality is excellent this is a very heavy machine. My only gripes have nothing to do with the sound quality, but I miss being able to turn the unit on with the remote that is not possible here, Also the player does not display how long the disc is after loading that can be annoying as I occasionally still record discs onto my Yamaha cassette deck. It makes time matching difficult.

Natural and mellow sounding, yet extremely detailed but not clinical. Smooth highs and nice bass. Well recoded/mastered CDs sound incredibly good. Not surprisingly XRCDs and K2HDs deliver great sonics as well. SACDs sound even better. If you are a big fan of SACD DSD format and its ability to produce a faithful copy of the master tapes (given the engineers mastered it properly) this could a good option. This thing is crafted beautifully and built like a tank. *Be aware this is not a SACD multi-channel player, it's a Stereo SACD.

YAMAMHA SERVICE IS THE MAIN REASON NOT TO BUY. HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS AND & QUESTIONS. I WAS ON HOLD FOREVER WITHOUT EVER REACHING AN OPERATOR. YAMAMHA WOULD NOT EVEN ANSWER BACK WITH SOLUTIONS TO MY YAMAMHA DEALER ....OR MYSELF. MACHINE ARRIVED WITH FAULTY OPTCAL DOOR AND SOON WOULD STOP TRACKING IN MIDST OF MUSIC. IT'S TOO BACK BEACAUSE IT'S ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL WITH OUTSTANDING STYLING. BUILT LIKE A TANK. BUT DON'T LET THIS FOOL YOU....NOHING MATTERS IF THERE IS NO SERVICE. NOT EVEN A PHONE NUMBER THAT IT VERY SLOW RESPONSE TO OPEN DRAWER AND A LONG ANSWERS. HESITENCE TO START PLAYING. VERY FINICKY ON SACDS.SACD BUTTON DID NOTHING EITHER ON MACHINE OR CONTROLLER. MANUAL IS NOT EXPLICIT. EVEN MY YAMMAHA DEALER WAS DISCUSTED WITH YAMAMHA'S SERVICE. AFTER 2 MONTHS I RETURND THIS BEAUTIFUL BOAT ANCHOR!

The Yamaha CD-S1000 Black Natural Sound Super Audio CD Player can play your collection of SACD, CD and CD-R/RW discs (including MP3 and WMA files). This CD player supports audio playback of CD-TEXT discs. The Pure Direct mode shuts down the digital audio output and turns off the display. This achieves the lowest possible noise interference, which yields quality analog sound.
