I've been playing guitar for over 25 years and one day decided I wanted to learn to play the drums. Didn't want the size and loudness of an acoustic set so I started looking at ekits. Did a lot of review reading online at the different brands out there in this price range. Final decision was between Yamaha and Roland. Went to the local music store and all they had to try was the Roland. So, at that time I was torn of which to purchase. Went online and A Wisconsin online retailer had a pretty good bundle deal going on so that made my decision for me. Long story short... bought the kit sight unseen without being able to try one out. Glad I did! Kit came in the mail, set it up and sounds really good. Just had to tweak some pad volumes and I was good to go. Kit came with an extra pad with the bundle deal I got. I did notice some sound bleed between the pads but when I went in and adjusted some settings to pad assignment and volumes the sound bleed was gone. Sounds real nice. The hi-hat controller is the weakest part of the kit and this is the only con I can see thus far. It just doesn't seem as responsive as I think it should be. But it doesn't bother me enough to complain about so it's gets 5 stars from me. The rack is very sturdy. Read some reviews about the plastic rack mounts not being the best of quality but I find that they are of good quality and are holding up just fine. They are plastic so don't over tighten. I find that good and snug works just fine and nothing has moved on me so far. If I have the headphones on the woman doesn't even know I'm in the basament playing them. Can't go wrong with that!! For being a sight unseen purchase, I'm very pleased. Oh...and the iPad app for controlling the system makes fine tuning the pads a pleasant experience. I recommend it!!

Loved this kit! After a few tries at many kits by many different manufacturers, I've found that this kit and the DTX 3 zone pads feel great! I've got a snapping popping sound from the pedal for the high-hats, but I'm still pleased with the overall quality. I've already recommended it to students, s quality control has always been high IMO with Yamaha.

I use the kit for practice, studio and educating. Here is the great. Module is easy to use and has a good amount instruments. Snare has a realistic feel and tom pads to me are just right not too bounceie (great job yamaha). Kit sounds great Here is the not so great Poor pcy 100 response if I hit the crash to close to the trigger no or very little sound is produced doesn't mater how I adjust the velocity, perhaps by putting the trigger on the back of the pad verses the side like the pcy 135 this would not be an issue. Crosstalk was an issue on a few of the different pre-sets, every time I hit the toms I was hearing the snare even after adjusting trigger settings/crosstalk. Re-posioning tom pads helped a bit but did not compltely elimante it. I found that creating a user kit and just adding the same instuments took care of that issue. The rack needs little more dept adding another pad is going to be really tight unless your okay with a tight pad group. I would have gave it more than 3 stars if it weren't for the cymbals for me that was huge because it keeps me from using it live for small venues. I would not recommend this kit for any live performances unless you use real cymbals

Not my first electronic kit, but definitely the best so far. I researched the other manufacturers, and for my limited budget, the DTX522 was the best for the buck. The DTX Snare pad is by far the best feeling and responding, and the new rubber pads are phenomenal- so much so that it just wasn't worth it to me to go with the all-dtx 562 just yet. I just bought the kit, and had my first full rehearsal with my new band last night. Compliment after compliment on how good they sounded, right out of the box, zero tweaking. I can't wait to start creating user kits. Everything feels rock solid, and was easy to set up. I used to be a die-hard fan of the "other" big name in electronics, but I just didn't like the feel of the mesh heads, and the sounds were no better. We've got a few gigs coming up, and I can't wait to unleash this kit.
