Great for recording. Great for a small venue and for a setting which lacks a sound engineer. Perfect for a church. The sampler allows you the ability to create an electronic copy of awesome acoustic drums. As this kit is made by Yamaha, you can only play Yamaha kits. With the sampling ability you can store other manufacturers acoustic kits. An optional shell pack would be great for live performances.

I use my (customized) Yamaha DTX950 for everything. Rock, country, classics, Pop. I play in a variety of working bands and I never know what I might need. From a huge 80's hair metal kit to a tight, funky kit to an electronica kit to congas and timbales, my kit can cover it all. With built in sampler and sequencer I can add in anything else I may need. I have used this kit in small clubs and huge rooms, everywhere from 50 - 2000 people, both indoor and outdoor. It always sounds good and sound engineers love me. I can separate the drums or give them a stereo signal, so the module is flexible enough for any situation. The module has a bit of a learning curve, but it has complete control over the sound of the drums. The only thing I wish Yamaha would offer is some variety in looks. The black is nice, but I would like some other options, maybe even something with the ability to change the finish (something shell-like). The capabilities and playability of the kit is worth not having that option, though.

For an acoustic drummer concerned about losing feel with electronics, these drums are a fantastic choice. The pads feel really good, the snare and toms are designed to respond differently to bounce, which is great. I wish there was an easier way to keep the pad/cymbal wires bundled and ideally out of sight - maybe routed inside the rack? The provided bundler is really hard to feed the wires into. The ideal would be for it all to be wireless, and offer it as a retrofit, perhaps with a small dongle that plus into the existing jacks of the pads. One other thing that I really wish for would be purpose-built cases to carry the pads, cymbals and especially the rack. I currently stuff the pads and cymbals in regular drum cases, but they need to be bolstered to keep from getting banged up against each other.
