Awesome!

I did a ton of research trying to find the best bang for the buck and this is what I ended up with. Most players have a particular feel or sound that they prefer, and after talking to so many people, I seldom heard any complaints about Yamaha's 700/800 series guitars. I liked the look of the Mahogany on the 820 so that's why I chose it over the 800 or 830 and I'm not much of a player, I just like to "tinker" with it and have it sit on it's stand, looking awesome, most of the time. This will definitely last a lifetime if taken care of as you can see and feel the super quality. I wanted to go with an American made, but I just don't play well enough to justify the huge price difference. All in all, I am very happy with this guitar, so far, and it plays and sounds and looks so much better than many of the cheap-ish entry-level guitars out there!

"Martinesqe"

I've owned and played regularly an fg720s and love it. I have other more expensive guitars but learn new songs on the Fg and once I have it down I bring out the expensive ones. So, I had to get the 820 to see what the fuss was about. I thought that there is no way that it would compare to my 6 year played in upgraded 720. The 820 arrived, I tuned it with stock strings still on, and was blown away! The bass is deeper and louder and resonates longer. I thought my 720 had good bass but it decays much quicker and has more of a mid to high emphasis very "Taylor-like". The 820 is very "Martin like". The strings are very balanced across the spectrum. Also the 820 is noticeably louder than the 720. The sound is full rich and loud and I can't wait to see what it'll sound like in a year as my 720 improved greatly in the time I've owned it. These Yamahas have a better balance across the strings, to my ear, that many of the others I've played. Great for learning, practicing, or taking to the fire or the party. This is a guitar that I would immediately replace if lost, my others I'd probably look around first....

Solid Guitar for a Beginner or Hobbyist

I can only play a few chords and wanted my own guitar to try to polish up a bit. It comes with good strings and it feels good to play on. The width of the neck makes chord transitions fairly easy. This guitar is also a good looking guitar you can be proud of. I got it on sale for $189 with free shipping. I think I did well. I really like it so far. I have been into guitar stores and have played the Martins and Taylors, this is definitely not one of those BUT I still think it is great for the price.

unbelievable deal

unbelievable deal, I got this with a savings coupon from Adorama for under ($) shipped, the sound and playability is of a guitar 4 times this price, every time I play it I'm in awe, great decision and job by Yamaha to scallop the bracing and give it a more Martin like sound, great looks and workmanship
