I ordered this guitar from Adorama and got a great deal on it. The workmanship on this guitar is great, and it sounds awesome for a guitar in this range. It sounds way better than the price would indicate actually. I checked the intonation on it with my Yamaha digital tuner, and it is right on the money. The finish is very well done, no sloppiness, the neck joint is perfect and the neck angle is perfect as well. This Yamaha FG830 has a lot of volume, which I believe is due partly to the scalloped x bracing on this model. The prior model, the FG730s, did not have scalloped bracing, but is otherwise identical. I played the FG730s at a music store and it sound good also, but the FG830 does have the edge over the Fg720s. Basically, they took the 700 series guitars and improved them with scalloped x bracing. They went from good to better. If you are looking for a high quality acoustic guitar, for learning on or for just the good sound of it, then I would say that the FG830 is going to do well by you. Very good guitar for the money, and I would definitely recommend it.

Rich overtones and improved sustain thanks to the rosewood back and sides deliver improved sound through greater 'depth'. The appearance, with abalone inlay around the sound hole, is more luxurious and an obvious step-up.

Newly Developed Scalloped Bracing
A new FG has louder and stronger sound in the low- to mid-ranges, thanks to cutting-edge acoustic analysis technology developed by the Yamaha R&D Division. Yamaha's engineers have achieved this sound by utilizing analysis and simulation to arrive at the best bracing design without depending on tradition or guesswork. This analysis led to the development of the new scalloped bracing pattern, a new and ideal acoustic structure that maintains the durability of the top board while bringing out the most sound the Yamaha FG has to offer.
50 Years of History
The history of Yamaha's FG series started in 1966 with the release of the FG180 and FG150. Over the 50 years since its introduction, they have developed and produced several generations of FG - all of which have made FG the ideal acoustic for contemporary players. In all, there have been over 200 FG models since 1966.
