This portable grand is definitely one of the best you can find in the market today. I enjoyed playing it and my hands never get tired even after playing for more than 5 hours. The LP-7A works great but it does not have the assignable function like that of the Clavinovas. Nevertheless, I still bought it to maximize my piano experience. The styles are great but it can't be compared to those styles available in the latest PSR-S models. The apps available for iOS devices looks great too. One thing I hate about these latest Yamaha apps is the fact that it doesn't have an Android counterpart. I just want Yamaha to know that not all of the pianists use iOS devices. I hope to see some apps for Android soon especially the Digital Piano Controller app.

Excellent piano, especially for someone like me who has dabbled over the years and wishes finally to learn how to play with both hands and not just the ears. It is a great hybrid of quality piano, entry level arranger and self-teaching instrument with the best in class/price point feature of a large, useful LCD display. Feature wise it is well ahead of its rivals in this segment of the market, nothing really comparable. 128 notes polyphony is more than enough. And the choice of voices and styles is similarly plentiful. Could definitely be used on stage with external speakers. Portable from room to room even when mounted on the very sturdy stand. Easy to detach from stand and take to a gig or on a trip. The addition of foldable travel bag which could double as a piano cover would be a nice bonus and one Yamaha might wish to add. As would a stand including pedals instead of adding an aftermarket unit on the floor.

I am a semi-experienced pianist, but for me piano is just a hobby. I grew up with a VERY old upright piano, but I love the flexibility of keyboards to play different sounds and add rhythms. This is the first keyboard I've owned with hammer-action keys and a huge upgrade from my old 61-key Casio CTK-900. The combination of hammer-action keys and the wide range of voices available (unlike many entry-level digital pianos) was what sold me on this one. Honestly, there are some digital pianos in this price range (such as the Casio Privia line) where the action feels a bit more realistic -- but it's not a big difference, and the selection of voices more than makes up for it. The fun arranger features definitely keep me playing. I do wish there were an option for repeating a section of music over and over while recording a track -- I have seen other keyboards that do this. This is not intended to be a professional unit, but it could serve that purpose in a pinch and do reasonably well. It's a fantastic home unit though for under $1,000.

This instrument could be a very good one (for the price) but with the lack of some very simple features yamaha makes an instrument the resembles more a toy then a real instrument. Let me make this clear: if you want a piano then this is not the instrument you should buy! there are many better ones from yamaha or other brands in same price range. If you got this it mean you wanted a piano arranger and with limited possibilities like making your personal styles, modifying a style, muting a part of a style, you will be stuck with few yamaha styles that are not bad (not great either) and soon you will be tired of it all. Then all you are left with is a piano that's not good enough .

The versatility of this product and the modest price is what won me over. My last new Yamaha piano was a PF85 which I still have. Truly a great keyboard for writing and final arrangements. I am a happy camper...thanks Yamaha for another fine product. Don P.

I primarily use this for practice at home. I have taken it to concerts and performances, but it is a hassle. This is a very heavy instrument. This is a great instrument though. It is the best personal keyboard that I have used. I do wish that the keys were a little quieter though. Another issue I have with the keys is that when I do a glissando, they rattle. It makes me worry that they are not very sturdy, but they have held up to everything that I have thrown at them. This is a great keyboard.

I have one on stage and bought another one for my study for practice, recording and composing. After several trials of other keyboards in the Yamaha line and others, I find this one ideal for my personal use.

This keyboard is a nice compromise for me. For years, I have had a fully-weighted 88-key Yamaha of some flavor, but few sounds and/or beats. I have also had arrangers with tons of sounds and/or beats, but cheap-feeling keys with no weight to them. The DGX-650 combines fully-weighted 88 keys with a decent selection of voices and rhythms. It also supports recording my songs to USB as wav. But it isn't perfect. For one thing, it is too heavy to really be a "portable grand", the down-side of fully-weighted keys. For another, though it gives you the option to turn the internal speakers on even when audio out is connected, it doesn't retain this setting after the keyboard is switched off. My last complaint is that it is too difficult to navigate through all of the Category menus to make the settings I want, the downside of a clean-looking, clutter-free keyboard. Nevertheless, this was a good purchase for me. I enjoy the sounds and the feel of the piano.

Piano and drum sounds are very good. Sitar and banjo are a little cheesey. Still in all a good value.

This digital piano, dgx-650, was purchased for our 6 year old who is starting piano lessons. We are pleased with our choice. The 3 year warranty and 450+ piano voices influenced our selection.

I am just learning to play and the DGX 650 my be overkill but then it's an instrument that looks like it will last a lifetime. The DXG 650 can be a lot of different instruments. Yamaha's Y.E.S system is helping in the learning process with learning to read music, I am able to hear and play Right, Left or both hands and can change the Tempo to assist in my learning. I was thinking about upgrading to a real Piano when I can play better but now that I have been playing on DGX 650 I don't know ( great sound, great feel and endless possibilities). I would have gave it 5 stars but I'm a Novice at playing the Piano.

This is a Great Yamaha Product. I only wish I could Plug a Monitor to it so I could display the LED that is in the keyboard. It would be Great to have the read out much larger to see better. Otherwise I am having a blast learning how to play this amazing keyboard.

The Yamaha DGx-650 is an 88-key Grand digital portable piano (White) that features sounds based on samples from the company's CFIIIS 9' concert grand piano, a weighted keyboard with varying touch response across the key range and Damper Response DSP. To add to the genuine playing experience, the keyboard also provides 128-note polyphony that will easily accommodate two-handed sustained chords with heavy pedaling.
Professionally-arranged xG-optimized song books contain play-along song files that allow for learning to play songs from famous artists using the DGx-650 as a backing band (song books sold separately). The piano comes with USB audio (WAV) recording/playback, effects processor, music notation display, Smart Chord and a Style Recommender and much more. The Yamaha Education Suite (Y.E.S.) is a set of built-in learning tools, making it easy for beginner and experienced musicians to improve their performances.
Dual built-in amplifiers and four speakers provide a clear sound and an auxiliary input provides external access for playing other devices through the DGx-650. A metronome is included and the keyboard can be transposed an octave up or down. The keyboard ships with a stand, sustain pedal, music rack and external power supply.
