Small form factor important in my application. Not using it to it's full capacity so don't have much to say. One little thing not to my liking is the HDMI pass-through doesn't do what I want but that is not a defect in design. I wanted the video from my PC to feed through when I had the radio on. Fixed it by buying a small HDMI switcher, no big deal. Yamaha is a cut above at a decent price point. Customer service also better then average. KDM

A good 5.1 system. Invest in good speakers/sub.. Size is perfect for small enclosures. Major disappointment is that you can't wireless stream video. Remote is too small. YPAO set up is ok but had to tweak my settings for what I prefer. Works well in my small den. Sounds is very good. I use the Pandora function quite often, other than sometimes having difficulty staying connected to the wireless, works well. If you need a small form factor and decent audio/video this is the AVR for you.

I love the look and sound of this AV receiver. The internet music station feature is fantastic. So much music, so little time.

If this were 7.1 it would be Yamaha at its best

After much searching for a receiver that would fit in a small cabinet space in our RV, the Yamaha RX-S600 appeared. Only a little cutting out of the back of the cabinet and it slid right in and the door could close. Instead of miserable TV speakers we now have nice in-ceiling sound and hook ups for blue ray and satellite TV! Never have liked Yamaha remote controls, but small inconvenience. Thank you Yamaha.

If you are looking at a mid to higher level performance system for a smaller entertainment space (room and shelf), this product fits the bill. A couple of nice features are included (YPAO speaker setup and tablet/smart phone integration) which add value in the setup and operation process of this device. YPAO allowed me to troubleshoot incorrect speaker setup and refine my room acoustics between surround sparkers; the smart app once connected to a wireless access point allows for visual change of use in HDMI, audio output, volume and other features in a free downloadable app. You can easily integrate up to five HDMI sources and preconfigure their use pretty easily. Those with high end HD TV's will like the pass through feature in standby mode that permits the TV audio to be heard without running the AV and surround sound speaker system. This unit is ready for 4K and 3D pass through for future TV upgrades you might consider. I found the software update a nice must have to address any tweaks to the software found by Yamaha. I added a TP-LINK router to clone to my home wireless for all the devices which are not near a wired ethernet connection. My only mark down is the remote and overall system power. I chose to add a third party Harmony 650 remote to control the devices in a simple one touch way to activate TV, DVD, Blue Ray, Apple TV and either camera or iPod functions and settings automatically. This made it easier for my wife to control the system and any activity she wants when I'm away. The power is good for smaller spaces (my 25 x 20 room is fine) - but may challenge some larger theater spaces where you might consider a higher output unit with more speakers or more volume. All in all, this unit met my expectations for function and performance at a competitive price.

I'm basically using this as 3.1 sound system for living room with Roku, Directv and bluray attached. Fits in the cabinet very well and looks and sounds great. It is not the receiver to rock a larger room but very nice and what you would expect from Yamaha. I wish it had pre-out to drive an amp. I really don't need all the analog inputs BTW in 2014.

We have a medium size family room and use this for cable TV, DVD/Blu Ray and Pandora. All of which sound GREAT! The added bonus is the smaller form factor. All in all this exceeded my expectations!
