Never disappointed with these speakers, they outlasted my RX-V665. Now they are connected to RX-A780. Paired with NS-C444. They produce a warm home theater sound. Now listening to the Toby Keith Aerican Icon special, these speakers rock. I do have 50W Sub for a little kick. Plus two Atmos speakers. But these NS-555 speakers hold their own. I hope they last another 21yrs.

We began re-building our home audio system 2 years ago. A vintage turntable was located in London. Reference level C/D and cassette players were next. The selection of a high power 2 channel receiver quickly underlined the need for new speakers. 2 or 4 speakers, bookshelf's, towers, all the usual questions. We audited 10 pairs from 8 different manufacturers. Looking for a complete sound spectrum, the speaker systems that did not have a dedicated mid-range drive were excluded. The 5" mid range cone with the wave guide horn in the Yamaha NS-555's stopped us in our tracks. Along with the dual 6-1/2" woofers and the 1" aluminum dome tweeter, these speakers do amazing things with heavy gram vinyl records. The dual bass drivers provide plenty of low-end punch, while being careful to allow room for the other components to do their jobs. The NS-555's instantly reveal secondary instrument sounds and nuances in backing vocals that seemingly were not there before. The definition is astounding across all analog and digital music formats, including streaming. These Yamaha's offer excellent sound staging. The separation provided by the high-capacity crossover system effortlessly makes room for all vocals and instruments. We initially researched Bi Wiring these, as they have 2 positive and 2 negative poles per speaker. Do not do this. Purchase a high power 2 channel receiver or amplifier and Bi Amp them. The results have been amazing. The NS-555's are power hungry and run flawlessly at the upper end of their wattage ratings. The words " for the price" should not be written in a review of this speaker system. They more than hold their own against speaker systems costing $1,000.00 more. Trust us, we have compared them personally. Yanaha's customer service has been strong and very helpful with set up questions. These loudspeakers should be a great addition to your audio system.

While it looks good I don't care for the sound. Don't like build quality. The prongs don't line up with the holes for the grill.

I replaced some older Bose 301 I was using as my front left and right and, wow. These speakers completed my home theater system and made such a difference. I was not a big fan of the feet so I did not use them and put the speaker directly on the tile floor next to the home theater cabinet. Looks better this way in my opinion. In terms of sound I have nothing bad to say but to capture that deep base you will need a seperate powered sub but that is expected with these slim towers.

Being just a bit smaller than the NS-777 they hold their own in both Home Theater Audio and 2 Channel Analog audio. Match them up with the NS-C444 center channel along with the NS-333 Rear speakers and you have a very decent 5.1 Home Theater system. With the Black Lacquer finish they also look good and more spouse friendly. Match the speakers up with a good 75+ watt receiver and you will not be disappointed with the sound output. For the price it is hard to beat the audio sound produce by Yamaha.

Prior to purchasing the NS-555 speakers I had owned a pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.3 SE monitors, which sold for much more. I sold off most of my high-end in order to attend graduate school. I use the NS-555s in a two channel system with a Yamaha AX-592 integrated amplifier and a Yamaha DVD-S2700 DVD/SACD player. In a word this system is "phenomenal"! The NS-555s are not as good as the Dynaudios but they are probably 80%+ at 1/5th the price. They do so much so well that I am astonished at how reasonably they sell for. The fir and finish is very good, they are very well made! The NS-555s reproduce sound very accurately with very little boxy coloration. The treble and mids are very clean and clear, as well, the bass is taut, deep and clean with none of the excess boom found in "cheap" speakers. The Yamaha NS-555 speakers are the real deal! They can comfortably compete with designs at over twice their retail price. The only caveat that I will mention is that they have a moderately low sensitivity of 88dB 1W/m, this means that they like a fairly powerful amplifier. I would recommend a true 75-100 wpc to get the most out of these fine speakers. If you are considering these speakers I give them my very highest recommendation, they are worth every penny. They look expensive, but better yet, they sound expensive, smooth, suave and refined, amazing!
