Solid bass, great thick tone

The RBX170Y is an impressive bass, considering it's in the low price range. Great value for the money can be found here. I've played bass for many years, I own expensive basses and gear, and this bass produces a tone that I would not hesitate to play in any venue. I like that it is standard scale for bass guitar (at 34"), yet it is a solid 4 or 5 inches shorter than a Fender. The P bass pickup in isolation is a great, standard fat p bass tone, and you can blend in or isolate that bridge pickup for a wide range of bass tones that work in all situations. It is well made too. To maximize its playability, one would do well to maybe file the nut lower and do some fret work to put it on par with more expensive basses, but it is okay out of the box, especially at that price point.

Awesome Bass

I had never picked up a bass in my life. I went to XXX the sales person (Bud) was a bass player. He showed me 6 basses he kept going back to the Yamaha RBX. He liked the sound and so did I. After 2 hours of listing to him play for me there was no dough that I was getting the Yamaha. The basses he played ranged from $100 to $400. I took it home and saw my friend Luke who plays bass for a local band. Its not the one he recommended that I get. He played for a few minutes and liked it and told me I got a bass better than he recommended.

My new RBX170EW NT is nice...

I was surprised by the quality woods used. Mine has good playability. The shape of the body is unique and good. I want to buy all 3 styles. Wish guitar strap was included.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!

This is a decent bass. I purchased it used because I needed a bass that didn't have active pick-ups. First, it's a great knock around the house and practice bass, but it also has an upscale look so if I want to take it out to a gig, I can. The top is beautiful, the fit, finish, and intonation are good as well. Excellent bass!

Never thought I'd like a bass

Never wanted to play bass. The band needed someone to step up and try to jump in. An experienced bass playing friend in another band told me about this model and how he liked it. He was 100% correct! It felt right, had a mellow tone, and I can't wait for my first gig as a bass player. After almost 40 years, I discovered I love guitar, but am a bass player at heart.

Great Bass

I bought this guitar with a gift card. I absolutely love this bass. The bass it replaced was not sounding great and had some fret buzz. The Yamaha product is of good quality, sounds terrific, and is easy to play. I made some adjustments to the bridge and it is awesome.

very good value

Quality, craftsmamship, playability and tone way above other entry level basses. I do not have anything negative to say about this bass. It is very light and comfortable to play for an entire 2 hour rehearsal. Does not come with a gig bag but at this price that is not a deal breaker.
