This is a great product. I use it with the built in Pandora client, Internet Radio, AirPlay from my iPhone and iPad and also Bluetooth. I also stream songs directly from my WD MyCloud Mirror to the R-N301 and it works perfectly.

This is my first Yamaha Receiver and so far so good. I have two sets of bookshelf speakers connected and I am also using a turntable for my albums. The turntable has a pre-amp built in and it works well with the receiver. I also have connected a network cable to my router and I access my digital audio via Airplay. I have not tried to update the firmware yet. I used the treble and bass controls to achieve a sound that I liked. I thought things sounded a little flat at first. Overall a nice receiver.

Being and IT person.. setting up my DLNA server was easy, i use Plex Media Server. The firmware is well written I get a solid stable connection with LAN cable when accessing music stored on my windows 10 pc, ipad and android phone via plex and NP controller app. This unit has quality parts from (Jamicon, Zentel, Texas Instruments, Bando etc). I'm currently using a Yamaha NS-BP300 Speaker with audiovox speaker cable.. For the price it has good sound especially with high res audio 24bit/192khz flac.

Firmware Update is a big problem on Yamaha Amplifier. Please avoid this model at all cost. Firmware upgrade can only be done through network but it will not update successfully. This problem is well documented and widespread but no action taken by Yamaha. To make matter worst, this model does not support firmware upgrade through USB so there is no way to recover the firmware once there is an error to the upgrade.

I use this unit with passive speakers for my desktop pc. Works fine but was a task to figure out exactly how to make all audio work through the speakers. I Use an ethernet cable connected to a line extender and I also added an optical cable that actually takes place of the ethernet cable. Testing to see which works best. I wish I bought the next model up with the wi-fi added. Would have been easier to set up. Still pretty happy though.

Lot of work to connect on server, and Music services, especaly for me, being out of EU and USA. My work with pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 2, and it seems that speakers need something better. If source is good, system sounds perfectly, an can create a quite drama. Money can't buy more than R_N301, since you do not need any source device. Curently, I am using PC, network radio, Spotify and all stored on smartphones. App is fantastic, actualy, I did not touch reciver form day 1!

Wired to the router, I listen music with iTunes on my laptop thanks to Airplay. For 24 bits music, my FLAC tracks are on my android phone and I play them through the NP controller Yamaha android app. It is connected to two Monitor Audio MR4 speakers 100W 8 Ohms. I power it on phisically, go on the laptop and play it in Itunes and lets go !

Seems to be a good average receiver. Not a lot of power but enough for most uses. The streaming services seem to work well and setup has some nice features (volume limiting, turn-on volume, etc.). A major problem I did run into: I hooked up an external amp for my outdoor speaker setup and discovered the line-output from the R-N301, will not output audio from the built-in streaming services (built-in radio tuner & external sources output fine). Tech support confirmed this was intended. I had to hookup an old Roku for my streaming services, completely defeating the purpose of buying this receiver. Also, no WiFi built-in at this price point? If you are only using the speaker output from this receiver to drive a pair of speakers. Then this would be a 4 star product for you.
