Affordable, good looking and YAMAHA quality!

For the most part this is what I have come to expect from YAMAHA products. As this is a MUSICAST capable unit getting it to sync in with other apps was somewhat of a learning experience. Took a while but I finally figured it out. Still have not managed to grasp the whole FM thing as it has locked in on 2 whole channels. (Please note that I live within 30 miles of downtown Chicago IL.)

Excellent Value for Dollar Spent

This really is one of the best overall receiver values out there. Plenty of power and nearly endless input options. I have two tape recorders (RTR and Cassette) hooked up to it along with a multi-disk CD player, and a TV (via optical input). I use the USB input all the time (having downloaded and spun off more than 300 songs from iTunes to a USB memory stick). Lastly, I have a lot of music on my iPhone which I can transmit the the built in Bluetooth receiver. Then there is MusicCast. I have two MusicCast powered speakers and can broadcast music to our outdoor patio when entertaining..

Awesome receiver!! Lots of features and fantastic sound!

I use this receiver in my basement--home bar and gameroom areas! Could not be happier with my choice. I have owned Yamaha for decades and will continue to do so!

Full featured, good sounding, 2-channel stereo receiver

I bought this receiver to replace an older Yamaha stereo receiver. The biggest difference between the old receiver and the new one is the internet connectivity. Things like internet radio (via. the V-tuner program) and Pandora are built in. And, I can stream music from my Apple computer or i-phone to the receiver. The receiver offers an abundant amount of wired connections of various types. I was able to connect all my existing older components (TV, Blu-Ray player, auxiliary TV tuner, HD Radio tuner, DVR, etc.) without adding any additional A/B switch boxes. The clutter of wires and switches in my TV/stereo cabinet is much reduced. The receiver powers my two medium size floor standing speakers (Jamo D450's) without any problems. It is capable of playing much louder than I will ever need. A nice touch is that it will work with 4 ohm speakers. Many receivers will not work with low impedance speakers. The receiver runs relatively cool at normal volumes. Given that I have it in a TV/stereo cabinet, this is another plus feature. Overall, I am very pleased. Because the receiver has so many features and must (in most environments) hook up to the WI-FI or wired internet signal, it will take more time to set up than a standard stereo receiver. Patience is important during set-up. The interface on the receiver for the web inputs could perhaps be a little more intuitive. I'm somewhat old fashioned, and like to use the controls on the receiver front panel. However, the Apple i-phone app works reasonably well and more clearly shows which input is playing. Most users will probably use their phones, in conjunction with the supplied Yamaha remote control, to control the majority of the receiver's functions. I use a Logitech Harmony Elite remote control to operate most of the receiver's functions and also to operate the other components mentioned earlier. The receiver works fine with the Harmony Elite.

darned close to perfect

This unit replaced a 24 year old Denon DRA-835R, which is now in another room. The Denon worked fine but lacked modern features. The new Yamaha is terrific at network-source playback of every sort. It has a superb amplifier stage, far better quality than most other stereo receivers these days. This model lacks only HD-radio support, an upgraded remote control keeping with the price class of the unit, and, there is a bug on the wired-Ethernet connection for AirPlay. I am working with Yamaha to fix that now.

Brilliant Sound and Great Features

I haven't owned this unit very long and I am very pleased with my purchase. This receiver has great features and has improved the sound quality of my stereo meaningfully. My stereo and speakers have never sounded better. This purchase was a difficult choice for me. I was looking for a stereo receiver with more power. More like 150watts per channel. I have ESS Monitor speakers. ESS assured me that I would be happy with this Yamaha Receiver's power yet when pushed for the optimal wattage they stated 150 watts per channel and then followed that by saying at their office they were using a 40 watts per channel amp and at shows they use a 250 watt per channel amp. You can see my dilemma. The ESS people were fans of your products and I have a musician friend who strongly recommended Yamaha. Recommended improvements. 1) Higher quality/resolution display. 2) Remote control that could manage other devices (I ended up buying a Yamaha CDC600) and really wished I could control both devices from one remote.

Great sound but weak on network and bluetooth connections

I can't get over how much better this unit sounds than my 15 year old Sony receiver. The sound output from my SACD player on direct input is fantastic. The phono section is truly outstanding with an extremely low signal to noise ratio. The tuner works well. It seems a bit underpowered for a 80w per channel unit but you can set maximum volume and that may impact it. If I had simply wanted a great receiver it would have made a great choice. But I wanted a connected receiver. Forget about setting up a network connection except through the Music Cast app. The user manual is long but often worthless. I still can't get my iPhone 6 to connect with the unit by Bluetooth although my iPad will. When $15 bluetooth speakers work there is no excuse for these kinds of glitches. I'm still very happy I got this unit and if I didn't have to spend hours trying to figure out the glitchy bluetooth and wireless connections I would have been ecstatic about it.

I'm enjoying my purchase

Generally speaking I am very pleased. However, a few things could be better. (not necessarily in order) I don't like the color black and would have preferred more color options (apparently silver is available in some countries); for network features the user interface on the receiver itself is awkward; I find the remote control awkward to use for network features (e.g., net-radio); generally speaking, I think that the user interface could be improved; MusicCast is much better (I like it), but I would prefer that it be available as an "app" on my PC as I am forced to use my phone whenever I want to use MusicCast; vTuner is very good and allows me to stream all of the net-radio that I want; the tuner is good, I think; finally, the music sounds very good. For the uninitiated, among other things MusicCast allows one to listen to MP3, WMA, and other files (I think) that reside on one's PC. In any case, I've yet to find an audio file that I cannot play using MusicCast.

Quality Sound, Bad Wifi

Perfect sound for stereo, much better than A/V. With the bass/treble/loudness control no need for extra woofer :) Just very good sound on my Dali Ikon 5 MK2 speakers with bi-wiring. Good net-radio quality and Airplay. Also Vtuner to add premium radio stations up to 320kpbs. Thanks!!! Only thing missing is remote equalizer, you need to get up to the unit. And very irritating is after unit goes to sleep, the wifi connection gets lost. Needs physical on/off on the unit. Please update software to fix this!!!

Good but not excellent

I change my AV receiver Yamaha RX-V477 for this networking audio receiver to solve some sound issues (too complicated to get the correct sound) and great problems with the net stability. The R_N602 have a decent (not great) sound quality. It's dificult to get a great bass, because haven't a super bass system and it doesn't have a parametric EQ, like other receivers. But, if you have a good speakers (I have a pair of Klipsch plus a Jamo subwoofer) and a great (I repeat, a great)soobwoofer, the price worth it. The networking system (Pandora, Spotify, Internet Radios, Bluetooth connections, wifi Access, airplay and access to your personal cloud in your home (if you have a hard disc connected to your net) it's very great. No problem with that

Excellent Netwok Receiver

I purchased this Network Hi-Fi Receiver for the Net Radio features, USB and Music Cast. This installation for the network connection could use a little help. At first I wired with my PC's Ethernet connection, however the receiver did not connect. I confirmed that my PC and Laptop did work with this connection, but still no connection. Then I remember from another situation that maybe it was the length of the cable. I then connected the receive to my TV's Ethernet, much shorter and the receiver connected instantly Now I moved on to the wireless connection, and I could not connect. The problem was, my password has a space in it, and there is no selection for a space in the setup. This was confirmed by Tech support. The manual said to connect with WPS and I could not find this. After contacting Tech support, I realized what to do. A simple statement in the manual would have helped Go to your wireless router, find the WPS button and push it on. Once I did this, I went to the receiver, back to setup wireless and connected to wireless instantly. I'm enjoying all the net radio stations, hundreds of them. I was also pleased with the FM reception, we are in an area that has poor at best reception, however, the receiver found all the stations. The USB connection works fine with a 2Gig and 4Gig memory stick. If all the music files are on the root, no problems, if they are in folders, as long as the folder is at the root, then the music files are in those folders, no problems. If you have to go 2 folders to find the music files, the USB did not see them I also tried using an 1.5 Tbit External USB drive that I use for mass storage, the USB could not access the drive at all. I was able to wirelessly stream Windows Media player, Windows 8 from my laptop, it works fine, a nice feature. I don't have any Music Cast devices yet, however, I'm sure they will work just fine.

R-N602

Purchased the R-N602 after auditioning Onkyo's and Pioneer version of 2 channel receivers. The Onkyo has some decent credentials it sounded like it had more power and the ability to add another Amp was tempting but it ran very hot for my liking, Pioneer was another consideration and and it was a toss up. I like the fact that I can connect my iPhone, USB stick or hard drive and NAS it's versatile in that sense. My first week of listening to the 602 I was considering returning it the sound was overly bright and harsh but with time and tinkering I've settled on a sound I like. The 80 watts on hand isn't bad but 100 would've been better, my speakers are not difficult to drive but could use some extra oomph in the bottom end so much so that I added a sub to fill it out. No one is expecting to be blown away by this receiver it's best for a den, exercise room and a bedroom with it's ability to connect to Wi-fi Bluetooth and USB. Over all I'm happy with my purchase, on the negative the IOS App to control the receiver with my iPhone isn't available yet

Excellent Mid-Priced Recevier with Airplay Capability

I bought this as a replacement for an 20 year-old Yamaha receiver that was still going strong, but wanted to have Airplay and internet radio capability. It drives a pair of Ohm H speakers with good quality sound and plenty of volume. Very good value for this price range. I mostly use Airplay and the set-up was quick and easy (it paired with my Router on the second try). If you want to connect a turntable, this unit has the appropriate inputs to the pre-amp. Most fancy new surround sound entertainment models do not! Only two minor negatives: first, when you select Pure Direct it not only cuts out the Bass and Treble controls, but also the Balance, so if your room is like mine and you need to alter the balance to get the best stereo sound, you really can't use the Pure Direct to send the input directly to the unit's DAC. Second, there are way too many input options for the Select dial, and there doesn't seem to be a way to bypass the ones you don't use. However, the remote does take care of this, as it has buttons for each choice. If this unit lasts as long as my last Yamaha - which still works - anyone interested? :) - then it is a fantastic buy.

Good but not compatible with Windows

Product quality is good, and I felt confortable installing the device. There is plenty of inputs and outputs are well managed. When you look at the electronics inside, you feel confident within the quality of the parts and the assembly of Yamaha. However, MusicCast is not compatible with Windows (Microsoft) devices. Even if people use Android or iOS for leisure, you will not be able to listen music from your workstation while working. That is the sad limitation of this product.

Moreover, the MusicCast app from Yamaha allows you to enjoy your favorite tunes on a smartphone or tablet device via a wireless connection.

Extensive Audio Codec and Format Support
This network stereo receiver is compatible with high-resolution audio codecs such as DSD / AIFF / FLAC / WAV / Apple Lossless. You will enjoy the excellent sound quality of these various high-resolution audio codecs from the USB input on the front panel or from network connected devices. It uses a Burr-Brown 192 kHz / 24-bit DAC that has a firmly established reputation for quality.

USB Digital Connection for iPod and iPhone on the Front Panel
A USB port on the front panel allows convenient connection of an iPod and iPhone, which also charges the iOS device when connected. Because the digital signal from the iPod and iPhone is transmitted directly to the receiver, there is no signal-loss or interference. You get to enjoy the best possible sound quality. In addition, you can use the receiver's remote control unit to operate the iPod and iPhone for basic playback control.

Gapless Playback Compatibility Allows Play without Interruption
Many live and classical albums have no gaps in the music. Gapless playback ensures that there are no pauses between audio files. This provides playback with no interruptions, the way it was meant to be heard.

ToP-ART Sound Quality Design and Highest Quality Parts
Everything in the R-N602 has been built for maximum performance. The internal design utilizes simple, direct transmission of the signals - ensuring optimum separation and elimination of noise and distortion for pure sound reproduction. This includes dual independent power supplies for the two sound sources (analog and digital) as well as original ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) and Art Base chassis construction to fully protect audio signals from noise and vibration. Moreover, all parts and materials have been carefully selected and tested to make sure they are of only the highest quality so that they all work together to provide the absolute best sound possible.

Pure Direct Mode for Greater Sound Purity
Engaging the Pure Direct switch causes the audio signal to bypass the control circuits for bass, treble, balance and the back buffer amp. This improves sound quality while maintaining full output capacity. Shortening the signal route improves sound purity, helping to reproduce even the most delicate musical nuances.

Digital Audio Inputs for TV or Blu-ray Disc Players
The R-N602 is equipped for digital audio inputs with both optical and coaxial terminals. The optical is for receiving audio from a TV and the coaxial for receiving audio from a Blu-ray Disc player. The audio stays in the digital domain, giving you pure, pristine dynamic sound for all your entertainment sources.

Simple Yet Sophisticated Design
With a beautifully simple and unique design inherited directly from Yamaha Hi-Fi audio components, the R-N602 also boasts an easy-to-operate button layout. The aluminum front panel has a richly textured silver hairline finish. The control knobs are also of the same luxurious construction as used on the top-end models. Both inside and out, everything about the R-N602 demonstrates their commitment to superior design quality and ease of use.

ECO Mode and Auto Power Standby
The R-N602 has an ECO mode that reduces power consumption by about 20% and an Auto Power Standby function that you can set to turn the power off after two, four, eight or 12 hours.
