Loved it so much I bought another for 2nd home

I've owned Denon, Onkiyo and Pioneer Elite. This is my 5th Yamaha both Denon and Onkiyo Sound drivers went bad. Yamaha has the best sound fields out there and the only reason I have upgraded each Yamaha was for new technology all of my old receivers still work they were passed along to less discerning ears. The 3050 has better amp specs but I could not hear the difference I only upgraded for the ATMOS and what a difference that makes when it rains in a movie you feel like you need an umbrella. With Music cast and the 2 hdmi outs you can have another tv with wireless speakers awsome

All the goods

This unit has very solid features and performance. Excellent sound quality and easy to modify settings to customize sound for your particular environment. Great manual helps in set up. Using in 5.1.4 mode with up firing ATMOS enabled speakers. Only concern is to get full reference volume I am running volume at about -7. With "0" being turned up all the way this means I'm running it near full power. However sound is super clean with no audible distortion even at these high levels. Happy to have full High Dynamic Range capabilities as even though I don't have an HDR tv yet, Im sure I will soon and I can't imagine this unit won't be able to handle all the new formats for years to come. So this really has future proof in it, unlike all past home theater AVR's which seem to always be one step behind the new products. No fear here finally. I did need to use the pre out for the 2nd zone ( with a small mini amp ) to power my outside speakers. But it works great. Love the Airplay, and bluetooth which for my wife was one of the main reasons to upgrade. Now very easy to play back music. And built in internet radio is a great feature with some excellent stations. WiFi was a snap and set up automatically with no trouble. Contacted Yamaha support for a question and they answered the call and emailed me back. I am now convinced that Yamaha is the best electronics company out there. They are huge and have so many product lines, all music and pro audio related that they really have refined the process and product. I am sold . Cant think of anything bad to say about this unit. Now lets just hope it holds up!

Great AVR!

The RX-A2050BL is everything I was expecting. A powerful, quality built AVR that runs my system flawlessly. I went with Yamaha due to their reputation for quality, longevity, and sound reproduction. It handles movies and music with pleasing authority. I am still learning how to use all of the features, but I grasped the basics and hook-up easily. The YPAO system gets you close, but you might want to enter the manual set up to fine tune your system. I am very happy with my purchase.

Amazing Sound and Quality

I used to buy Sony AV receivers at half the price with close to similar specs, but my father, a true Yamaha fan for over 40 years, talked me into the RX-A2050. WOW, what I have been missing! Truely an amazing product that simply decimates what I had previously. Being able to sample 8 different sitting locations to create a field of sound to encompass all has been crazy nice.

Exceptional product

Aside from getting help from the website this is an excellent product from a flexibility and fidelity standpoint. Google easily located the quick start guide for the zone configuration when I could not find it after searching the website. I guess the lesson is use Google

After one month

The product is great but due to bad customer service / support , there's a lot that can be done if somebody tell you how. The remote is very simple and easy to use but the App does much more. There are too many unnecessary sound option that you wouldn't even use.

rx-a2050

I have been using this receiver daily for audio and video, I listen to a lot of music on CDs and vinyl. My main speakers are Polk Audio RTiA7s, and are powered in the Bi Amp mode of this receiver. I have never herd these speakers sound so good. The sound is crisp clean clear and precise and I have plenty of power to spare. The video is great. The surround sound parameters are great and can be configured and adjusted any way you like. I am completely satisfied with this receiver and I like it more everytime I turn it on. I have been an owner of Yamaha equipment, and lot of other brands since the early 80s. I have never had a bad experience with Yamaha brand. I can't say that about any others.

RX-A2050 Black

I replaced my old Yamaha RX-V3900 with this Yamaha RX-A2050. Loved the 3900 but needed more HDMI openings. Also wanted Blue Tooth ability. The 2050 was the same as my 3900 on paper and I trust Yamaha. Tried other products in the past and was disappointed. The set up was a snap. Never used the audio set up, I did it manually. No manual! Had to download it and made a binder for it. Found out the FM sensitivity stats were less than my old 3900 which could pull the FM stations right out of the air. Oh well. The bass ability is awesome. Has extra bass. Fun to play with. Everything works like it should. Sounds better than my old 3900, is smaller and runs cooler than the 3900. Way to go Yamaha. My 3900 is now my computer receiver playing music for me as I type this review. Still going strong.

Great Product !!!

Replaced my 12 year old projection TV last year with a 4K TV. Wanted to upgrade my receiver and make it as future proof as possible. Installed 4 overhead speakers in anticipation of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X then sat back and waited for a receiver which would support both and HDMI 2.2 and 2.0a. There are many fine receivers coming on the market, but the RX-A2050 seemed to be the one with all the features required by me. All these can be viewed on the Yahama website. Set up was fairly easy and mine is in a 5.2.4 speaker configuration. The sound, of course, is depended on your speakers. Have not been disappointed with this A/V receiver. One can also search the web for reviews of the RX-A2050 and draw your own conclusions.

Solid AVR

This is the first AVR I've ever purchased that wasn't a "home theater in a box". Very happy with the RX-A2050 so far. Currently have it driving a pair of Martin Logan Theos speakers (bi-amped) and it sounds awesome. Also have a Martin Logan Dynamo 700 subwoofer. Planning to add center channel, right and left surround, and another sub over time, so I'm sure it will sound even more amazing. More HDMI inputs than I'll ever use. Very easy to setup. Love the AirPlay capability, use it all the time. Also a beautiful piece of electronics.

Works great so far!

i just got this receiver and I am still learning how to use it to enhance my home theater experience. So far it has performed very well. I am using it to control six devices with both bluetooth and wifi. I have switched to Yamaha from a brand I had been using since the nineteen seventies.

Shuts Down Under Moderate Volume

Case number 14563333 for Yamaha RX-A2050 9.2-Channel Network AV Receiver which shuts down under moderate volume. Problem with automatic sound optimization for powered subwoofer installations suspected The receiver shuts down and has to be re-booted even under moderate volume when running five NHT VS1.4 8 ohm impedance speakers and an M&K MX-350THX powered subwoofer. The NHT speakers ran fine when powered by three Rotel RB981 130 Watt/channel stereo amps controlled by an Acurus ACT3 5.1 surround sound preamp. The subwoofer also ran fine when connected directly to the Acurus ACT3. The Yamaha receiver was purchased to replace and update that system. After talking with Yamaha on 8/29/2015, the service rep suggested that the new receiver was defective -- since testing with the receiver's automatic speaker optimization did not indicate any shorts or polarity problems in the speaker installation. He suggested that I try a replacement. Unfortunately the replacement shuts down and has to be re-booted even under moderate volume, even after implementing the receiver's automatic speaker optimization and associated testing that came with the receiver - no polarity problem with the speakers, but all speakers except the subwoofer showing volume deviations of >+10dB and the subwoofer deviating at -10db (a W-3 problem). I suspect that the problem may be because its software for automatically optimizing the speaker settings does not work for systems that have a self-powered subwoofer attached to the pre-amp lead for powered subwoofers and all other speakers attached to the receiver's speaker leads- as the instructions for the receiver specify On 9/1/2015, it took an hour on hold to get through to Yamaha tech support again about this. After an hour testing different settings, we could not solve the problem of the system shutting down under moderate volume under most settings. He elevated it to his supervisor with my request for level 2 tech support and said that Yamaha would get back to me in two days. Two days are up, and I have not heard back from Yamaha. Later, after installing the wireless connection on the new receiver, the receiver then gave me a message that new firmware software was available. I downloaded installed the new Yamaha firmware and still had the same problem with it shutting down at moderate volumes. I did a long series of automated sound setup optimization runs and found speaker polarity issues reported -- along with the previously mentioned volume issues. What was really disturbing is that the speakers with polarity problems were reported to change almost every time I reversed the polarity on the speaker or speakers for which the speaker setup software detected an apparent polarity problem. After each round of speaker optimization testing and changing the polarity where the testing showed a problem, subsequent runs of the speaker software indicated a different combination of speakers with polarity problems, but sometimes it showed the same problem on the same speaker despite reversing the polarity on the leads to that same speaker with an alleged polarity problem. Speaker connections reported to have polarity problems on different runs of the same speaker optimization software included o Left front and right and left surround speakers o Left front and left surround speaker o Left surround speaker only o Right surround speaker only... o Right and left surround speakers only o etc Every surround sound speaker (except the center speaker and rarely the front right speaker) sometimes showed a polarity problem on one or more runs . Concerning volume, the automatic speaker optimization for volume continued to show all speakers other than the powered subwoofer showing deviations of >+10dB and the powered subwoofer deviating at -10db, confirming that the software installed on the receiver can't deal with a powered subwoofer; and the upgraded firmware now shows inconsistent and erratic results concerning speaker polarity as well as the previously reported volume issue. If I do not hear back from their level 2 technical support and get the problem solved (or solve the problem myself by manually adjusting the speaker settings) soon, I will return the system for a refund and consider alternative systems for properly driving my speakers.

9.2-channel AVENTAGE network AV receiver with Dolby Atmos and DTS:x. Inside are dual ESS SABRE DACs designed for premium home theater systems. With HDMI 2.0a, watch video in stunning 4K Ultra HD with HDCP 2.2 and high dynamic range (HDR) support. Enjoy high-resolution audio playback and access to online music services with built-in Wi-Fi. Conveniently connect a Smartphone or tablet with Bluetooth for quick access to your favorite music. Maximize your installation with advanced HDMI zone switching and advanced zone functions in up to four zones.

AVENTAGE AV Receivers: Designed to Deliver the Highest Levels of Audio Performance
The AVENTAGE line of high-performance AV receivers is based on the audio design concept of providing a massive, full-bodied sound for movie sound effects and the accurate reproduction of music sources. By expertly harmonizing traditional and advanced technologies, every factor that affects sound quality, from materials and parts to construction, layout, vibration damping (unique foot) and "fine-tuning" the sound, is handled with no other thought than to achieve the best possible audio quality. As a result, every AVENTAGE model has the ability to reproduce the most subtle details of high-definition sound, so that listeners can enjoy a truly high-class sound studio experience at home.

Sound Tuning Achieved with High Quality Parts for Optimum Performance
Every single part in an AV receiver affects the sound quality. For AVENTAGE models, extra time is taken to find (or develop) the exact parts needed to achieve the highest performance possible. Sound technicians go through a testing process to, in effect, "tune" the receiver's sound.

Professional Quality Digital Audio by ESS DAC
Incorporating the SABRE9006A Premier Audio DAC from ESS Technology to achieve an exceptionally good signal-to-noise ratio and up to 120 dB of dynamic range, this AV receiver produces professional quality digital audio.

Symmetrical Power Amplifier Layout
This is just one of the many design details that all combine to create a superior receiver. The interior of the unit has been precisely planned, circuit-routed and built so that the left and right channels are physically and electrically isolated. This naturally maximizes channel separation but also greatly improves signal to noise ratio and also helps to achieve a wide open sound stage.

Anti-Resonance Technology Wedge Helps to Ensure that Vibrations Do Not Affect Sound Quality
The Anti-Resonance Technology Wedge is a fifth foot in the center of the unit. It dampens vibrations from the power transformer, power transistors and heat sinks, as well as vibrations that might be caused by the sound from the speakers.

Aluminum Front Panel Offers Visual and Aural Benefits
All of the AVENTAGE components feature the same sleek, clean design, with an elegant aluminum front panel and silky touch volume/selector knobs. The aluminum front panel is used to effectively shield sensitive circuitry from external noise and electronic radiation generated by dimmer switches, fluorescent lighting, video monitors and so on. This ensures optimum sonic performance in the widest range of installation environments.

H-shaped Cross Member Frame
The interior of the receiver is reinforced with cross members in an H shape to provide an extremely rigid and stable frame. This reduces chassis vibration to virtually zero even during high volume output (seemingly minor vibrations can affect the sound), maintaining the highest audio quality.

Bluetooth Compatible for Wireless Music Streaming
The RX-A1050 is equipped with Bluetooth functionality to let you easily enjoy wireless music playback from smartphones and other devices. The Compressed Music Enhancer from Yamaha is now optimized for Bluetooth audio transmissions to ensure that your music will have vivid, lively sound quality during wireless playback.

Full Support of HDMI 2.0a Spec: 4K Ultra HD Video Upconversion, HDCP 2.2 and High Dynamic Range (HDR)
This unit supports the latest HDMI standards thanks to the transmission of 4K video at 60 frames per second (pass-through and video upscaling). Fully enjoy the high definition video quality of 4K without degradation along with HDCP 2.2 that fully complies with the latest copyright protection, a standard for 4K video transmission. It also supports HDR video which provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. A future firmware update will be required to enable HDR.

Yamaha Video Processing
With expertise in engineering exceptional video projectors, Yamaha has produced various advanced processing techniques that are applied to this AV receiver's video upscaling capabilities. These include edge adaptive deinterlacing to smooth out jaggy noise, motion adaptive deinterlacing to detect moving or still images and multi-cadence detection that includes 3-2 pull-down.

Advanced HDMI Zone Switching Allows Unprecedented AV Switching to Multiple Zones
While standard HDMI zone switching can only send HD video programs to the main and second zones, advanced HDMI zone switching from Yamaha adds the capability to choose from all audio and video sources for playback in either zone.2 An on-screen graphical user interface makes it easy to browse and select content to enjoy from the second zone no matter what is being played in the Main Zone.
