Did my homework...ready for purchase one..

I've used three generations of customizable Denon AV units. The natural progression would've been a Denon AVR-X4500H. After quite a bit of audiophile research I decided that the 5-7yr lifespan of Denon units before failure was not worth it at this price point. Back to where I started in home theater 30+ years ago with Yamaha I've returned and decided on the RX-A2080. The reviews balance between the two home theater icons, but I'm very pleased to say I have no regrets and have found the Yamaha to exceed my expectations. If this unit lasts trouble free for longer than the Denon units previously have I expect to stay with Yamaha unless/until something major tips the scales. Time will tell, but I guarantee the Yamaha RX-A2080 as a home theater/audio unit won't disappoint. I run a 7.2.2 configuration with the mains bi-amped, connect wireless to multiple zones, my main room speakers are all timbre matched Polk Audio RTi A series. This unit is outstanding for my use in every way.

A pleasure in every way an AV unit should be.

Works well when used as a regular receiver, but when we try to play our old Nintendo Wii games using the rca cords it keeps cutting out and going to a black screen and silent for about 20 seconds which makes almost all of the games unplayable. We never have any problems with the Wii when we use our 20 year old Pioneer receiver. Also when I tried using bluetooth headphones to watch a movie when everyone else was going to bed, the audio kept cutting out making it useless to watch the movie. I bought a $25 bluetooth transmitter that connected to the old receiver through the headphone jack and it works nearly flawlessly from the exact same spot, so distance and interference are not a factor. I will probably continue to use the separate transmitter. I'm really not impressed with any of the new technology on the receiver and would recommend that you save yourself a ton of money and find an older used Yamaha receiver that will work just as well for your needs. I know you can't go too far back and get all the functionality of hdmi, but a couple years older still gets you a lot more for your money.

Not as great as hoped for

Very happy and impressed with performance and features of this unit. It was time to move up from my beloved workhorse RXV-2400 which provided sixteen years of service and was on about everyday. I just needed more updated options. The improvements of the RX-A2080 was everything I was looking for. Power, functions, and software control are fantastic. Clean audiophile sound. No regrets in this purchase.

Exceptional Clean Powerhouse

I have been really happy with this receiver, I am using it with RP-280FA and an RP-504C which it pairs nicely with. There are a lot of inputs and output options which is handy, although I do wish it had a front HDMI input.

The room correction and surround:AI works great, I have basically set and forget it which is a far cry from my experience with Denon.

Do note I had to buy a new entertainment center that was large enough for this receiver to both house and have sufficient airflow.

A great overall receiver

I wanted an excellent home theater (within my budget) and got advice to go with Yamaha. The pro home theater person told me you get a good bang for the buck ! I used GoldenEar for all speakers ; L/R and center - 4 ceiling speakers and 2 back surround. I am very pleased !

Incredible receiver

I can’t say a bad thing about this receiver I love all the features . Compared to my old Denon receiver this is a monster of an upgrade for me .

Yamaha RX -A2080 is the best AV receiver for me .

I Love this receiver great sound. I had an Onkyo 830RZ it had nice sound. But the picture was not great. The picture was clearly beautiful on the Yamaha. The AI sound is outstanding. It analyze all the the movies to give you the right sound the right time Outstanding. I don't have it that loud and my wife can her it on the top floor. The price was a little more than I wanted to pay. It you want the best you got to pay for it. Great receiver buy it you won't be disappointed.

The Receiver is a Powerful

Remote is big and no way to change TV channels, unit is heavy

I would buy once more due to breakdown of 1st unit

I'm coming from another Yamaha, so setup was familiar and easy.  I'm a beginner when it comes to AV so I can't give you any specifics about sound.  Hooked it up, plugged it in, ran YPAO, and everything works great.

Great Receiver

Great stereo for music and surround for movies and TV, connects to everything. If it had built in Netflix and movie apps it couldn't be better.

Have been using the RX A2080 for a month. The amp is really powerful and has much better tonal quality than the predecessor. I have issues regarding the display showing test product and no sound output sometimes. Hope Yamaha will come up with firmware soon to solve the issue.

Great amp

I upgraded from an 8 year old Pioneer receiver and what a major difference in sound quality.  Now looking for Dolby Atmos speakers to complete the setup.

This is a great receiver. Really upgraded my sound. I am using two of the 9.2 channels to biamp my fronts and it really kicks. Awesome buy.

Great sound, lots of fetures

I purchased this to center my whole home audio and video in a network closet. I have not been disappointed. The sound would be extremely difficult to beat without spending gobs more money for boutique equipment that wouldn't come close to meeting the feature set of this device.
