I only use this as a 5 channel receiver but the sound is awesome! I download a LOT of movies and music and this receiver ALWAYS sounds incredible. Love the bass reflex on sci-fi and adventure movies and the surround "scapes"

I currently own the Aventage RX-A680, RX-A780 and RX-A1080 AVRs I am highly pleased with the Aventage line. A friend of mine is a professional home theater installer. He turned me on to Yamaha because of the quality and reliability. Was previously eyeing Denon but after much research found that the Yamaha eco-system is far more comprehensive and reliable than the Marantz/Denon camp. While I consider the RX-A680 a nice dorm room or starter AVR, the RX-A780 has all the right bells and whistles. YPAO Volume is effective and essential if you listen to music at less than reference levels. The power and performance of this receiver would make me comfortable for using it as my main home theater AVR. I had previously owned a Pioneer Elite VSX-52 receiver, but in terms of the menus, and on screen GUI, Yamaha shows itself superior. In my opinion though MCACC, Pioneers surround sound calibration application is more comprehensive than YPAO R.S.C. Where YPAO really shows its superiority is in its ability to make adjustments to the parametric equalizer. MCACC had no such capability. This capability alone makes it worth the price admission. While Audyssey is well spoken of, the key functionality for music is in YPAO. Another nice feature of the Yamaha ecosystem is that the receivers settings are available to adjust through a browser application. Though simple in visual structure, everything that the receiver does is available to tweak. The thing I most loved about my Pioneer receiver was their Phone app AVcontrol5. This act made controlling and adjusting the receiver a breeze. Yamaha's version of the app called AV Controller exposes all of the settings of the receiver in a simple fashion. Currently Yamaha's AV Controller app is best of class. It can be run simultaneously on multiple devices without any problems. It's rock solid and very usable. Musiccast duplicates much of the capability of AV Controller but allows the reciever to be future proof as new services come online.

This is a very capable A/V receiver for many multi-room setups. The delivery of audio from many possible sources is clean. The versatility extends to readymade interfaces for streaming services, and triggering associated devices like a motorized projector screen. Coming from an RX-V773 purchased eight years ago, device is more capable with ONE EXCEPTION. Yamaha decided to write out a few lines of code that provides for web control. The receivers still have a web server, but now it only serves to modify some aspects of setup.

This receiver is at our vacation home, I needed something easy to use with Alexa. When it works it should be great. So far, Yamaha customer service has not been able to help me with all the set up issues. I have spent hours waiting for phone calls that don't come or don't fix the Alexa issues, playing 2 zones with Alexa control. Today will determine if I keep the unit since I don't want to wait for calls back that don't seem to come in a timely manner. I hope the features will work since if the features work it will be a wonderful stereo receiver with easy to use features!

So far sound is good even though theater system is not finished. But I was leery about remote and I'm not a fan of the flat panel on it. Doesn't feel natural to use but otherwise every thing else seem good like the ypao really did a good job of setting up receiver speakers. And be sure to down load app for setup because the manual is pretty much nonexistent.

I bought my A780 about a month ago to drive my Klipsch dolby Atmos speaker set, and I am pretty happy with it. The only cons: 1) my receiver occasionally turns on/off when it is not in use. 2) YPAO calibration does a poor job in calibrating my subwoofer. Other than that, there is nothing to complain at the moment.

This is a Terrific Receiver I brought just test out a Yamaha Receiver and feel in love with the sound! I’ve owned manny different Brand receivers from Sony, HK, Arcam, Denon and Marantz and this Yamaha sound is the Closest to my Favorite Arcam at half the price! There is so much i like about this model to mention some the App is awesome I sent it up on a old tablet i had laying around it looks amazing so much so its the remote i use now! Also i like how it is able to display my meet you at Library‘s for my Plex server in the app . I also lime how cool it runs my Marartz before this model ran so hot! Last thing is how the receiver automatically detects devices plugged into the HDMI ports. I plugged in my Apple TV and was all set to go into the input setting and change the name to Apple TV but it automatically discovered it was the Apple TV and change the name to the input for me. There is so much i like about this receiver its a keeper!

One the best buys. Has many functions for a decent home theater experience. Fast shipment and lovely customer experience with Adorama. The receiver has two HDMI outputs which was used to connect a TV and a projector providing both day time and night time viewing experience. With the adventage line from Yamaha this AV receiver with a 3 year warranty is one of the best buys.

I bought this receiver about a year ago. Worked fine but nothing special until it would not turn on after lightly using it for about a week before the year mark of having it. I called customer service and had to take the receiver an hour away to be fixed. After checking on the status of the repair, I was informed the parts from Yamaha are on backorder and the receiver will not be fixed for 2+ months. Buyer beware! Go with another company!

Love this receiver, However the HDMI OUT (port 2) seems to be loose and I lose sound. First time it happened , took me an hour to figure it out. So I replaced the receiver, thinking ,,,faulty port. Well..happened again, same port, so I've replace the cable now twice. Anyone else having this issue?

Amazing convenience and features

Really nice App control and full set of features and connection to services. No complaints on sound. Easy to configure with TV and well thought through set up.
AVENTAGE Advantage
Craftsmanship in engineering design. The AVENTAGE line of high-performance AV receivers is based on the audio design concept of providing a massive, full-bodied sound for movie sound effects and the accurate reproduction of music sources. By expertly harmonizing traditional and advanced technologies, every factor that affects sound quality, from materials and parts to construction, layout, vibration damping (unique foot) and "fine-tuning" the sound, is handled with no other thought than to achieve the best possible audio quality. As a result, every AVENTAGE model has the ability to reproduce the most subtle details of high-definition sound, so that listeners can enjoy a truly high-class sound studio experience at home.
Total Purity Concept
Enjoy fine sound quality. The Total Purity Concept, which Yamaha has been cultivating for many years, encompasses high drive amp technology, high purity pre amplification, anti-vibration technology and independent pure power supplies. All models have fully discrete power amplifiers that help minimize distortion. They also adopt pure independent power supplies, allowing dedicated power supplies for the analog and digital circuitry to prevent digital noise from affecting analog circuitry. The anti-vibration heat sinks are designed to suppress vibration from transistors and sound pressure.
Independent power supplies for the DACs are designed to further eliminate noise on certain models. Down to every detail, these AV receivers are designed with full emphasis on the highest possible sound quality.
High Quality Parts
The whole is greater than the sum. Every single part in an AV receiver affects the sound quality. For AVENTAGE models, extra time is taken to find (or develop) the exact parts needed to achieve the highest performance possible. Sound technicians go through a testing process to, in effect, "tune" the receiver's sound.
Anti-Resonance Technology
A firm foundation. The Anti-Resonance Technology Wedge is a fifth foot in the center of the unit. It dampens vibrations from the power transformer, power transistors and heat sinks, as well as vibrations that might be caused by the sound from the speakers.
Advanced Foundational Design
A foot fetish. The feet of the receiver feature a newly designed, high-density structure which utilizes two different kinds of interior ribs - straight and curved - to enhance strength and damping performance. Installation stability is improved and chassis resonance is dispersed, effectively eliminating external vibration. The low-range response is enhanced, while resonance peaks in the mid- and high-range are reduced, providing dynamic sound and accurate reproduction.
Aluminum Front Panel
Shielded from noise. All of the AVENTAGE components feature the same sleek, clean design, with an elegant aluminum front panel and silky touch volume/selector knobs. The aluminum front panel is used to effectively shield sensitive circuitry from external noise and electronic radiation generated by dimmer switches, fluorescent lighting, video monitors and so on. This ensures optimum sonic performance in the widest range of installation environments.
Full 4K - 4K Ultra HD HDMI Support
Providing complete compatibility with the latest HDMI standards, this AV receiver delivers transmission of 4K video at 60 frames/second pass-through. It also supports HDR (high dynamic range) video including Dolby Vision and Hybrid Log-Gamma. This provides incredible contrast, smooth tone and rich, bright colors-giving you full, high-definition enjoyment with an exceptionally realistic and natural picture quality.
Stream Simply - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and AirPlay Compatible
Built-in Wi-Fi allows for a connection with your wireless router, greatly simplifying system connections for music streaming or enjoying networked audio (PC/NAS). Bluetooth connectivity is also included to stream into your receiver or out from the receiver to another Bluetooth device such as a pair of headphones.
New Heights in Sound - Dolby Atmos and DTS:X
Compatibility with these amazing sound technologies creates an extraordinary experience. They deliver breathtakingly rich and realistic surround sound, positioning and moving individual sounds to any virtual point in your room, including objects moving overhead. Experience the overwhelming realistic movement and immersion in videos - right in your home.
Every Room is Different - Easy Sound Optimization with YPAO
YPAO (Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer) analyzes the room acoustics and your system, then precisely adjusts various audio parameters to provide the best sound for your room. By placing the supplied microphone at your listening position and switching YPAO on, the system is automatically tuned for optimum performance in your home.
Wireless Surround Speakers
Combine this AV receiver with the upcoming MusicCast 50 or MusicCast 20 wireless speakers and enjoy the convenience of creating a home theater with wireless surround speakers in 5.1-ch. Get stunningly realistic sound with a clean, clutter-free setup and turn your current living room into an entertainment environment where you can fully enjoy movies and music.
Multi-Room Audio - MusicCast
Start with this AV receiver in your home theater and expand to other rooms over time with MusicCast speakers, sound bars or Hi-Fi gear. Stream your music and TV sound everywhere using your existing Wi-Fi network. With MusicCast, the system grows with you and there's no need to run wires through walls.
Easy Operation - MusicCast App
The free MusicCast app puts control of your AV receiver in the palm of your hand. Access your sources and streaming services, adjust volume and sound settings and link with other MusicCast devices for simultaneous playback throughout your home.
Voice control - Amazon Alexa on MusicCast
"Alexa, turn up the volume." With Alexa voice control integration, all you have to do is ask. Use any Alexa-enabled device, such as an Echo or Echo Dot, to control either the AV receiver by itself or multiple MusicCast devices throughout your home.
A World of Music - Streaming Services
Explore a world of music with built-in music streaming services. Syncing your playlists and likes from your smart device to the receiver and discovering new music becomes even easier with your Receiver.
Second Room Sound - Zone B
This output capability allows the receiver to send 2-channel sound to a second zone, so the main zone now has 5-channel output. This means that users can enjoy stereo sound in a second room. The same source will play in both zones (cannot use two sources). Zone B always mirrors the audio output in the Main Zone.
Dust and Groovers - Phono Input
Enjoy music from your vinyl collection through the phono input terminal.
