Fairly easy to set up for a novice electronics person. Easy to navigate. Great customization and options. Does not work well with Roku sticks, that's why I would not buy this again. Used it half a dozen times and spent more time trying to get the green color of the picture to go away, last time was over an hour and I gave up for good. Roku sticks work fine on my other home TV's.

I bought this Yamaha receiver to replace a failing Onkyo 7.2 that was 9 years old. It kept losing the HDMI signal even after replacement capacitors every 3 years. I only use 5.1 surround and the Yamaha is great with four HDMI 2.0 (all with HDCP 2.2) and plenty of DSP surround effects modes. I like Sports and Chamber Hall the most. Easy connections for 5.1 speakers and superb calibration with the included microphone - very accurate in speaker placements. Definitely has a full feature set - especially for the under $200 range.

Sound is clearer than the soundbar I had,no problem with dialogue.Cant connect with HDMI as I get an error unless I use another HDMI from cable box to tv then HDMI to ARC on amp.Overall very happy.

The unit is easy to setup and it has very good sound. I am unable to connect via Bluetooth with my 2011 Mac Book Pro. I was told by Apple that the codecs are older in the laptop and the Yamaha unit requires newer codecs only. The receiver is NOT backwards compatible w/Bluetooth. It does work w/iPhone 6. There is no USB port for American models. This doesn't seem fair. It should be the same for all.

I'm 58 and not a techie. My AV setup was simple -- LG 4k TV, set top Fios box, and Yamaha RX-V381 to just 2 old school speakers. I needed a synchronized HDMI-ARC configuration. Unfortunately, the normal connection instructions that came with the receiver did not work in that regard. And no documentation nor customer service gave me a clue about how to connect all three to get synchronization. So I kept experimenting and found that running the connections (just 2) sourced from the tv solved the problem. I am happy now. I read somewhere that LG tvs cause this issue. I hope this helps if you have an LG tv.

i have it connected to my 4K tv, blu ray dvd player and cd player for music and it makes all sound great. i`ve had other setups for what i use it for and this is the best i think to the quality of the sound and ease of using it. i love loud music and quality of sound and this unit has all that and more.

I use the system with output to a 4K TV and inputs from Directv Genie, Roku 4 and Blue-ray player. It handles 4K content from the Roku fine. All sources provide Dolby Digital so sound is great along with 4K picture. Excellent value.

I bought this for myself, and is my fourth Yamaha home theater receiver. This was specifically to be used for the "man cave" for home theater, Blu-ray player and two game consoles: X-Box and Playstation. The neat thing that I was not expecting is that the display area knows what devices are attached; i.e. HD-PVR, X-Box etc. The receiver that is replaced had an optical input which I miss on this box. However using all HDMI is very helpful.

I am very pleased with the sound from this. I wanted this for the 4K offering and am not disappointed. I am however not pleased with the speaker hookups, half have the banana clip option the other half do not I don't understand this and had to remove the banana clips from half my surround sound speakers to make it work. The sub-woofer has only one RCA plug where my previous Sony had 2. Not really a problem it all seems to work as expected. I am not able to get the on screen setup guide to display on the TV so it is necessary to tweak sound adjustment using the small screen on the receiver don't know why I can get that to work. The 4K pass through seems to work well. The microphone automatic speaker setup worked great. Very pleased overall.

With this price cost, you will not find a better receiver with such great sound output. Of course, the speakers you own matter significantly but for this price point, this is one of the best receivers out there for home use.

Sounds great but not accustomed to the volume control. Seems tinny at low volumes but great when loud. I am sure it is the operator! but not sure how to adjust properly to low volumes.

This unit is pretty good but the minus dec reading on the unit makes no sense to the lay person it should just go from 1 to whatever . The other concern is the number of different sound cat this unit is capable of doing is way to many choices we do not need all that.

I am not an audiophile, but this unit works perfectly with the speakers installed in our basement family room. It serves as a home theater, game room, video game console, etc. This is a very flexible unit and provides great sound. I had to purchase a separate amp for the in-wall sub-woofer (passive), but even with the added cost it is still a great deal.
