For the M.S.R.P. this receiver should produce a LOT more power. If you look at the specs, you'll see Yamaha rates it's wattage on either 1 or 2 channels driven, at one specific frequency. This is a shady way to undercut customers who like real watts. My old Harmon Kardon avr630 put out a true 90 watts to EVERY channel, at .02% THD from 10-30,000 hz, unlike this Yamaha That is rated only on 2 channels at a specific 1khz. too make a long story short, this makes Boss, and Jensen from way back in the day actually look good.

Replaced an old receiver (different brand) that started that started to have problems. Easy to setup and working well with a Bose Acoustimass sound system, Samsung TV and Sony Blu-ray player. Automatic balancing of the speakers was simple and worked well. Did do some tweaking of lip-sync, which was also easy to do. Have been using it for about a month and we're very pleased.

I am not what you call an audio tech nerd. I plugged in my Bose acoustimass 5 cube speaker system (20 years old) into the Yamaha receiver and was happy to hear the crisp, clear music through my speakers. Found out, after I bought this receiver, that my friend also purchased his Yamaha receiver from Crutchfield... 24 YEARS AGO and it is STILL fully and properly operating!!!

The receiver produces excellent quality at a good price. The unit was very easy to setup.

While the entire unit is outstanding for sound quality and functions, there are far too many details to enable a simple user to set up the various programs.

I'm very impressed with the rx-V481 AV receiver. I had a previous Yamaha AV rx that I have always liked but it did not feature HDMI switching so the installation in my home theater set up was kind of complicated. The rx-V481 makes the system interconnection a breeze and it provides a lot of flexibility. I admit I am still learning to use it but I have been really impressed.

A great receiver at a great price with all the upgrades I was looking for. I've had other brands of receivers, but nothing compares with the sound and specification of a Yamaha. I would recommend Yamaha to all my friends.

This receiver was quite easy to setup. I particularly like how the inputs will auto-rename (configurable) to match the device you have connected. For example, my PS3 is connected to HDMI 2. When I select HDMI 2 for the first time while the PS3 is on, the receiver will auto-update the input name on the display to show "PS3" instead of "HDMI 2". The device also fully supports HDMI end-to-end, so I only have to use a single HDMI cable for both video and audio - very nice since with my old receiver I had to use either optical or AV cables in conjunction with the HDMI cable. The manual is very well done; note that a printed manual does not come with the unit. It is included on a CD/DVD along with other documents. The unit can auto-update its own firmware over the network - another nice perk. Overall I'm happy with this unit after purchasing it during a Black Friday sale this past year.

This is a great receiver for the price. lots of settings. I have not even tried them all yet. sounds good. I'm old school, so I would rather have an actual manual instead of a digital one.

I am really enjoying this receiver. The fact that I was able to run all my devices through it (Roku, DVD Player, Cable Box) has made using my system so much easier. I replaced an old Sony receiver without replacing my Boston speakers, and the improvement in sound quality is fantastic. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.

We bought this receiver and paired it w/speakers from Definitive Technologies and WOW...it's more than we expected! It replaced an old Panasonic system that we loved but was starting to have problems and we're very glad we made this choice. The receiver is just what we wanted (wireless, internet ready, sound surround, handles everything attached to it) and we're very happy with it!!

This is the heart of my house wide audio system. It replaced a high level 4 zone Bose system without requiring me to replace the Bose speakers. Musiccast is an amazing way to control music inside and outside the house.

I moved the RX-V379 to another room where I only need one HDCP 2.2 input port when I purchased the RX-V481. The smartphone or tablet app works well and you can select which input source, program, volume and on/off. I found the Bluetooth pairing to be very easy. I have not tried the Musicast option as yet pending a speaker purchase. A very good value.

I had to research how to get my powerered subwoofer to work. Turns out you have to set all your speakers at small then sub at large. Didn't mention that in the manual that I saw from the cd you get. I wish it came with a manual that's my biggest complaint. Other then that it's a great receiver!

My only comment was the wifi setup which took time and several readings of the manual to accomplish this task. This was a replacement for an older model (V-RX 281) and I am very pleased with the outcome.

This feature set was a perfect fit for my needs and the setup was dead easy. Unfortunately, I am on my second defective unit. The first had no network, Bluetooth, or USB functionality. The second unit has an intermittent HDMI input 3 which drops out frequently for a random duration. Makes this effectively only a 3 input unit. The Yamaha response folks are quick to try and help, but reluctant to admit to hardware problems. I spent 10-15 hours trying their suggestions and email dialogs on the first unit. So far a couple hours on the second one. While I appreciate their responsiveness, I am rapidly getting annoyed with their unwillingness to acknowledge what is apparently defective hardware.

The receiver seemed to be the answer to my search for a moderately priced full featured unit. If offers AM/FM, wireless, bluetooth, analog, HDMI... Importantly for me it handles a 2nd zone and A/B switching - perfect for my outside speakers. All seemed great but the receiver suddenly stopped working after 3 months. In addition the receiver was used on a limited basis during the summer. I now need to ship the unit at my expense to have it repaired. What a sour customer experience!

the sound on this stereo is incredible i had a Denon receiver which was good but this one blows it away. While watching football or baseball games i can actually hear the fan yelling like they are in my family room with me.I have it hooked up to Bose speakers and a Klipsch subwoofer and this baby rocks. i highly recommend it

I purchased this receiver as only an audio receiver for our pool area. Powering 10 speakers. Easy to get setup, AM, FM working. But wanted to connect the internet and other music sources. ALL setup indicated via TV. I do not have a TV in my pool shed. Pretty small. Called the retailer - support was horrific. Called Yamaha direct. REALLY nice guy who said unfortunately my thoughts were correct. BUT suggested using a computer or computer monitor as via HDMI and connect for setup and then disconnect. What I have done as a temporary fix, hooked an old SmartPhone up and used the USB port and just left it on the system. Some delay due to the phones processors - but at least Pandora works now.

Great AV Receiver, it replaced my "old" RX-V461 well. I'm just dispointed about use of bluetooth speaker (i changed my receiver to use this feature): very poor range of use (5 meters max) and almost 1 or 2 second latency. This is barely unusable without echo... I hope a firmware update can resolve this..

i upgraded from a system that was about 30 years old - bought when I was in college. This Yamaha is similar in terms of what I had - good quality sound in a stable and quality receiver. I wanted to upgrade to be able to use wifi and bluetooth - which the v481 has. I haven't fully utilized the receiver's sound as I have not purchased rear speakers yet...but plan to do that in the next couple of weeks. I only two complaints with the system/service. 1. The directions for set up are lacking - I had to search on-line for them. While most of the set up is intuitive, I did need some more background on connecting different components via HDMI. 2. The system does not have dual voltage. We plan to move overseas in the next year, and will have to decide whether to sell this receiver and purchase a new one in Europe/Asia or try to use a voltage converter. As people become more mobile, I'm not sure why electronic components are becoming less flexible than they have been in the past.

Setup was a bit complex, and manual is a PDF you must display/print. HDMI video input from DVR, BLueray are great, wonderful 5.1 sound. I do like that you can adjust the sound settings by input so that my various sources remember how I want to hear them. Limited dnla network playback, as it does not support .ogg files nor my .m3u playlists, nor many video formats for files served by my dnla server. I get around that by using the toslink audio input from my linux computer, which sounds. That said, my flac and mp3 and ogg files sound great.

I got a lot for the money.

I loved its light weight, and easy speaker hookup. The Setup however, was not so easy with the computer ROM instead of a booklet for the owners manual. I was not able to get the ROM to work in my Apple Macbook Pro, so the next day I had to download the manual from the internet. NOT GOOD after paying for it already. They cut a corner here and unfortunately it makes me wonder what other corner did they cut? I finally got it up and running and it sounds quite good considering. I would have nothi...
