The best portsble practise all in one amp.

I have my THR10C since 2015 May,and I am so impressed by the sound, the build quality and the all in one unit great features that it has become my main go to practise, record and solo gigs amp.Love everything about it.I bought a second one ,so now I have two THR10C's for stereo amp setup and thats 20 watts of raw tube power!!!I bought the THR bag too for each of them so they are safe and i suggest anyone who is willing to get one,to get a THR gig bag.Believe me you need one,it all make sense ,when you put that puece of art inside and stays there protected. There is one thing that i've seen people complain and that is the lack of line out,BUT you can do what I do and send a stereo TRS cable with male TRS jack from the phone out and then direct into extetnal effects, mixer ,PA.Simple as that.Another great option is to mic the amp with a SM57 a bit off axis on the cone of the speaker and you get that magik room ambience from the amp.Really its a great amp and my main source of expression when I make small gigs. For bigger I use my Carvin VL212 with 9 tubes on total. Yes,I will definetely recommend it!!! Dont hesitate,go get one now,the features and most importantly the sound are killer!!!

Amazing little amp

Amazing amp - I own vintage tube amps that are 2 heavy to drag along anymore - the thr10c offers a nice portable light-weight alternative - would mic to a pa to push volume. Read the reviews and agree with most - I play a 72 gibson sg and 83 flying v - both sound fantastic through this amp - I can get a range of sounds that match up pretty good with popular 60's and 70's bands . I also play a parker and the piezo pickups sound great in acoustic mode

Sounds great, but...

I use this amp on small gigs, in a semi-acoustic duo, where I play electric guitar and my partner plays acoustic guitar and sings. This amp is just loud enough to compete with her as amplified by our Yahaha Stagepass 400 PA. The tone is fantastic, and the amp holds the bottom end of my Strat, where my Roland Minicube would not. The amp models are useful, and the effects are nice sounding. The biggest drawback is one that was completely avoidable: printing the labels for the controls gold on black makes them hard to read in dark rooms and on stage. They should have been printed in white, for maximum contrast. A line out would be a great feature in order to go direct to the PA. Last but not least, the on off switch on top can easily be flipped on when in the gear bag, and it is prominent enough, and flimsy enough that I could imagine it getting broken off. So it's perhaps not the most road worthy piece of gear I've ever seen.

Truly Pivotal Amp

This amp has traveled with me in my checked bag on probably 50 flights. I suggest the Yamaha bag for it inside the suitcase to give it some additional protection (airline baggage handlers take destroying your bag and it's contents as a personal challenge) and this amp has survived 3 suitcases damaged beyond repair. With my clothes I pack... this amp, a small pedal board with about 6 pedals, and all my clothes and personal effects for the week and it usually weighs well below the 50 lb limit. (about 41 lbs). The amp models and effects are decent too. I can dial in a Vernon Reid - Living Color "Cult of Personality" sound, ZZ Top - LaGrange, SRV or Hendrix sound reliably and quickly... and on my strat. I don't really like it with my Les Paul with active pickups. ...but great with my Epiphone Les Paul, Strat, Tele and Kramer. It's the perfect volume for a hotel and still delivers a pretty Hendrix-like sound from my Strat through an Fulltone OCD pedal. You can play your phone through it too with an aux cable and play along with the music on your phone or just use it to play back music from the phone. I love this amp because it exceeds all the expectations I had for it when I bought it. I have used it almost every day for about a year and taken it with me all over the country coast to coast. ...but get the bag to put it in before you pack it into a suitcase!

Great piece of kit

Fantastic for practice at home at low volume. But once I get "that sound" I want to use it in performance or in a jam, and here is the limitation of THR. Give us a line out to plug into a cab or mixer when volume is required. Also, please Yamaha, give us an iOS version of the THR Editor. These little amps are so portable, but I am limited to the 5 presets. I have dozens of patches on my desktop computer that I created with Editor. Most musicians I know use iPads for set lists and mixing. Give us more of the flexibility these amps are capable of!

THR10C

I have been playing with a friends THR10C and I am going to buy one next week. There are so many good things to say about this amazing little amp, already said in the other reviews. I will reiterate the one negative... if this had a line-out, I would line it into my 200W acoustic amp... the THR10C would become my primary effects interface for both electric and acoustic guitars.

Excellent Amplifier!!!

I had never heard of this amp until I saw it at a major music store and started reading reviews online. I was impressed with what I read and the employees highly recommended it. I bought it that same day and have not regretted my purchase. The THR10C is my favorite amp for practice. It can run off of batteries (which last a long time) and I now find myself going outside on the porch and playing for hours. I primarily play acoustic and I have to say that this amp has made it fun to play my electric again. It sounds amazing and it has even inspired me creatively. Looking at the amps small size you would not believe that it sounds as good or projects as loud as it does. You could play a small coffee shop with this amp, but I agree with one of the other reviewers that Yamaha should have included a line out. While it is a great practice amp, having the ability to route it into a mixing console would make it an amazing performance amp and/or recording amp. If Yamaha brings out this feature in a future version I will definately be buying one! I would buy a much larger amp as well if Yamaha put the THR10C technology into it. It is really that good! Don't hesitate; buy this amp!

love and need

Love this thing. It is now the center of my home practice space. The big things I think that Yamaha has missed is the software to do everything from an iPad and a line out to send the output to a mixer. Frankly I would buy another one for those 2 features... in a minute. I play jazz, almost every musician I know uses an iPad for charts and performance support. Sure laptops are fine but in a professional pickup environment what we have is music stands. iPads fit on music stands and are much less a worry if you break one. So it would be really good to transition all my things to just an iPad and this little amp is really the only software holdup I have. Please, please just make it so that all the functions can be connected via the camera connection kit so that we can all move to the next level together. Large iPads are coming. This amp is a real winner. Please yamaha make this happen.

Does what it says on the tin

This amp seemed way to quiet until I worked out what it's all about. If you need good tones at surprisingly low volumes then this is definitely the amp for you. You really can play it in the living room and I have to agree with Yamaha' saying it will make you play more. Then of course there's the recording and playback side to this amp and bundled Cubase software. Realistically you could not ask for more in a home practice amp.

Lots of versatility in a small package

This is a great amp to use for practice and small jam sessions. I love the amp modeling choices especially the class A and Deluxe options...but they all have their own unique sound and I do use them all..and even the flat setting for plugged in Acoustic sounds great. The amp is light, rugged, has tons of tone choices, has a aux input for ipod playalong, headphone jack and recording software and Editing software which was a bit problematic to download but offers a nice way to capture and save settings...along with the six built into the amp. The only downside of the amp..is you have to crank the volume up if you're playing with others or mike the amp, that and the fact that the built in effects are combined, can't select each one separately..but for this price..that is really nitpicking. The amp has great tonal qualities at bedroom volume levels.

Outstanding practice tool for home

I am still learning about all the capabilities for this amp, but what really stands out for me is how you get the outstanding tone, sustain and dynamics of a full size amp at conversation level volume. It's perfect for when you want to practice or play without blasting everyone else in the house (or neighborhood). I have had small amps in the past, but they still required some volume behind them to reveal any playing dynamics and tone. Not so with this amp. I downloaded the THR editor which has a lot of slots for creating and saving settings. I believe you save can them to the presets on the amp. The editor has slots for 100 different user preferences, or models. I just need to figure out how to fully exploit it's capabilities. There are 2 knobs for on-board effects which are limited to chorus/flanger/phaser/tremolo, the other is tape echo/echo-delay/spring/hall reverbs. So far I am spending most time with the Class A amp model, but did try the acoustic and flat sttings with a Yamaha AC3R. It sounded better in the flat setting with the built in mic modeling on the AC3R, to me. I am anxious to try it out as a recording interface. It would be great if it had a looper!
