I initially bought a Korg B2 based on what people said about it. The feel of the keys was heavy and the sound wasn't as realistic as I expected. I gave it away to a family member after the first week and got the YDP 103 from the local music store. I'm a beginner, so I had an experienced pianist (another customer who was looking at a grand piano) play it. She played a very complicated piece and said, "If feels and sounds great." After comparing the sound with the more expensive YDPs and even the Clavinova I decided I couldn't tell the difference. It's a bargain for what you get. In a couple years, if I get good at playing then I'll probably replace it with a more expensive model just to get more of a classic piano look. But I'm thrilled with how it feels and plays. I'm not looking for anything complicated.

This piano is good for beginners and intermediate level piano players. It has good sound quality, but 64 note polyphony and pnly 10 voices with no sampled guitar voice for this price point is inadequate.

I'm a beginner. My step mother-in-law gave me this piano for my Bday. I was thrilled to have it. I fell in love so much in learning piano that I never dreamed about it. I've been playing it every day since July, 2022. I really enjoy the sound with many other features. I like to use the head phone whenever my husband is on the phone or virtual meeting for work. Anyway, I give A+ to this piano.

Piano sound quality only possible from Yamaha
The YDP-103 has improved on the traditional AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) synthesis to deliver real piano sounds. AWM is a technology that utilizes digital recordings of acoustic instruments, allowing you to enjoy grand piano tone in a relatively small cabinet. With over a century of experience in building acoustic grand pianos, Yamaha brings that legacy to their digital instruments.
Superb playability and feel
A Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) 88-key piano keyboard provides a heavier touch in the low end and lighter touch in the high end and is similar to the hammers inside an acoustic piano. GHS is great for the aspiring pianist, because practicing with the GHS action builds proper finger technique for playing on an acoustic piano. Additionally, the matte finish of the black keys makes them less slippery when playing for extended periods of time.
Pedaling provides an added level of realism
Half-damper pedal control creates more detailed nuance and subtlety when playing, similar to pedaling on a grand piano. This feature allows for continuously increasing lengths of sustained notes, from slight to full, as the sustain pedal is depressed.
Quick and easy access to your favorite features by using an app
The "Digital Piano Controller" app has an attractive interface optimized for iOS touch screens and adds a whole new level of functionality to the YDP-103. You can turn your iOS device into an intuitive instrument controller, allowing you to access features and settings even more quickly than using the panel of your instrument. Adjust settings, choose Voices and even record performances. Once you try it, you'll never want to play without it!
Discover an inspiring combination
Combine two Voices together, like piano and strings, for an inspiring new playing experience. Nothing livens up piano practice like playing a piece with a new sound or creating unique combinations of two sounds together. Experiment with your combinations to discover fresh and inspiring tonal colors.
Connect and interact with your instrument
A standard USB cable can be used to connect the instrument to a computer or mobile device, opening up a world of creativity, entertainment and education. iOS devices can be connected to the instrument using the Yamaha UD-BT01 or the Lightning-USB Camera Adaptor. The instrument can be used to interact as a controller and/or sound source with a variety of music creation applications.
Conserve energy with convenient auto power off feature
Auto power off shuts down the instrument after a period of inactivity. You can customize how long it will wait before shutting down or disable it if you prefer. To learn more about other ways that Yamaha conserves energy, visit our Corporate Social Responsibility page.
