Forget about a wired system. I had a high end complete 5.1 DVD/sound system and very little of substance ever came out of the two wired rear speakers anyway. That is the way they are designed to work. I donated mine to charity when I bought the YSP 3300. The YSP 3300 is in our new home with a totally open floor plan (14 distinct walls). The sound is as good in the kitchen, breakfast nook, or dining room as it is in the sweet spot in the living room. And the 2 woofers and the subwoofer put out that heavy, powerful theater sound we all love to hear.

Had a Yamaha AV w/140 watts per channel running a variety of 7 other surround speakers and a 350w sub. The sound does not compare but you would be silly to think it would. The sound from such a small profile is incredible!! Only drawback is the wireless sub. Wish it had a wired option or some more troubleshooting/performance checks other than a link light. My first placement had it to close to my router.

When playing the I-pod using the Bluetooth adapter, (included), it often looses connection. You are supposed to be able to play your music from your computer but I have never been able to achieve this. Although to be fair, that is probably more a case of operator error.

Never thought buying the YSP would bring me closer to the neighbors. My neighbors stopped by last night. It seems my "Lord of the Rings" movie night disturbed their dinner. I did set up the YSP on auto calibrate for surround effect, but since my room is rectangular in shape with the TV/YSP in one corner. The auto calibrate results weren't all that great. The soundbar does sound fantastic, you get a feeling of depth to the sound. I've tried some 3D surround sound demos from youtube, once with TV speakers and then again with the YSP. The YSP sounds phenomenal. The TV speakers just give you a feeling of left/right channels and then the volume of the channels overall. There's no depth to the sound, the YSP on the other hand gives you a feeling of immersive depth to the sound. You can clearly make out that the sound is coming from different places in a room (in a movie) when a movie is being played. I tried playing Pandora on my TV from the smart hub but in stereo mode I didn't see much of a difference between the YSP and the TV speakers. It did sound good and the sub woofer gives it an extra kick. Yesterday afternoon I did manually calibrate the different channels for the YSP and got all but one of the 5.1 channels setup. I cannot get the surround right channel right, maybe because its because of the shape of my room and where the couch is placed relative to the wall. I have a corner setup for my living room which is attached to a dining area. The couch is in front of the TV (10 feet away) with a 45 degree angle to the adjacent wall. It doesn't leave much room behind me to reflect sound off. I do have the FR, FL, C, SL channels manually calibrated with the appropriate 'beam angles'. I just used my own ears to figure if I liked what I was hearing. I don't have any definitive way to say if it's the right thing to do. All I did was keep adjusting the beam angles until I could hear the sound coming from the right place. I don't know how to adjust the 'beam distance' and 'focal length' parameters because I would need to draw out the layout of the room and use geometry to see exactly what it is I'm doing. I'm just too lazy to do that right now. I may do it sometime later in the week when I'm bored and have nothing better to do. Last night I was playing "LOTR" and maybe a tad bit too loud (as I was reminded by my neighbors ;)), there was a scene where the nazgul flies around Minas Tarith and you could hear the sound originate from the LF speakers and go all the way to the SL speakers. I could have sworn that it felt like the nazgul flew out of my TV and flew behind me on my left side. It was really cool to have that feeling. I'm going to tinker some more to get some effect for the right surround. I need to still figure out haw to use the 'beam distance' and 'focal length' settings. I may have to use measuring tape and the room layout diagram to know what I'm doing. For those who have the YSP, congratulations and I hope we enjoy the home theater experience it brings. And for those on the fence, who need a little more convincing, I'd say give this a try. While I cannot say that this is worth $1.5k or $1.8k but for me it was a decision of aesthetics without having to deal with a room littered with speakers. I'll build my dedicated speaker based home theater when I move to my own place, not while I'm renting.

Installed my YSP-3300 to replace a pair of Phase Tech speakers. While not as robust as a surround system, this sound projector blows away my previous AVR/speaker combo. Excellent, accurate sound. Easy to install. MANY inputs allows elimination of AVR. Power is good, not great, but fine for my open 20' x 20' family room. I've been using stereo mode, not surround, due to open rooms, but sound is still excellent.
