I have the YSP 5600 as my sound system for cable tv, Apple TV, and net radio. The sound is really good, and with high quality movies I can hear the rain behind me, or the jets going over my head. I tried using it for distribution by hooking up DVD, cable, and Apple TV but could not get 4k HDR to pass through. I understand it is older but without firmware upgrade it only works for sound.

Despite being a Yamaha user for 30+ years, I have tested a few high-performance soundbars like Bang & Olufsen, Bowers & Wilkins, and Sonos looking for an HDR+ compatible, but in the end, I just got a TV with Dolby Atmos and DTS. I plugged the HDMI output into the YSP, and it works awesome. I paired it with an SVS subwoofer, and boom!! the room.

I really love this digital sound projector. The sound field is large and immersive. I have paired it with a Klipsch 10" subwoofer and together they sound incredible. What I don't like is for the price tag it doesn't have HDR10 pass through or, more importantly to me, AirPlay2. I want to perfectly sync my YSP-5600 with my other AirPlay2 speakers to immerse myself in music. To fix this I have ordered a Belkin Soundform Audio Adapter which should turn the YSP-5600 into an AirPlay2 speaker. But really Yamaha should fix this in a firmware update or at least include the adapter. As a side note, my 2 MusicCast 20 speakers have been on back order for months now.

Great for home theater use for those like me who want a Dolby Atmos soundbar but don't yet have a Tv with eARC. For the price I am disappointed in a few things. HDMI 1 is the only HDMI out of 4 that support Atmos. There is no HDR10 capability for better picture. And the one that kills me most is that there is no AirPlay 2 for syncing with all my other speakers and no plans to add it in future firmware updates. This makes the super high price tag cringeworthy. And so for the Amazing Dolby Atmos surround from a single soundbar I must give up HDR10 and any hope of using it for music with other AirPlay 2 speakers. Yamaha please fix this in a future firmware update.

This is setup currently in my main bedroom, but once my new house is built, it will take up residence in the small living room, where in the current living room, all that equipment (Yamaha 3070) will be going into a dedicated theater room. Anyways, I love this thing, but it is not a 100% love affair. It's a shame that it was built with a HDMI 1.4 chip set, it just came out on the market too soon really and that is all that was around. I've even inquired with Yamaha if I could send it in and have the chip set changed out to a 2.0 version, but they said it is not possible nor do they have any plans to ever go that route. Very unfortunate as HDR and Dolby Vision content is unable to be passed through it to my lovely OLED. Thankfully the Oppo, like most UHD players has 2 HDMI outputs so audio goes to this device and video passed directly to the display. Despite that, the sound it produces (what it is really about anyways) paired with the NS-SW300 is very clean, accurate and amazing in its ability to produce surround channels. Both ATMOS and DTS:X tracks sound quite good, not on par with my current living room setup (to be expected, as I have a 7.4.4 setup), but the job is accomplished still. Surround effects are much better then the height effects, but one's room arrangement will definitely play a part in how the sound is output to trick you into hearing sounds behind you even though you know you have no speakers there. I could recommend this item, even with the cost of it, but definitely would not hold back that it is unable to pass HDR signals to those who do not do their homework before purchasing. That could be a complete no purchase for many these days as everything from physical media to even the dreaded streaming services offer HDR content. Still hoping Yamaha will release a newer version of this fantastic device, maybe a YSP-5700, with a HDMI 2.0b chipset at least, if not full 2.1 to then take advantage of eARC and its many benefits moving forward.

Poor tech support; on hold 40 minutes x 3 until I found someone who could tell me that my switcher was unnecessary because the sound bar basically acts as a switcher. The subwoofer made a big difference, as mentioned by some, in terms of bass/big movies/sci fi. Great that the sound bar has 4 HDMI ports. Only thing is that sometimes the sound doesn't come on the first time (using universal remote). When I turn it on again, sound comes on.

This is a great starter or replacement for your video sound enjoyment. A all in one system that is virtually wireless

I have hooked up the YSP-5600 as per recommendations. Using just 2 connections: ARC to ARC and Cable Box to HDMI1. Sound and picture are great. The problem is when powering off and on, there is no sound until I press the HDMI1 input on the remote, the speaker does show when it powers on that, the input is already HDMI1. I have set HDMI control to on so the TV effectively turns on the bar through the ARC. I spoke with Yamaha who said, it sounded like a defect. The replacement has the same behavior which I really never believed was a defect but a firmware problem. Wondering if anyone else has run into this problem?

1 Month of use and I'm highly impressed. The sound control available with the remote is superb. Was not expecting this many features. Have found no dislikes yet. Replaced a denon 1911 7.1 setup.

I purchased this to replace a 5.1 speaker system so that we could make better use of our available space. I was a little skeptical at first feeling there is no way this would work or sound good. However, I have to say that I have been very surprised and happy with the purchase. You definitely need a subwoofer to take full advantage of the performance of the sound bar but the performance of the sound bar with my sub is just outstanding for both movies and music. Has to be heard to be believed.

This sound bar, er, 'digital sound projector' as Yamaha calls it, is amazing. I was skeptical that a soundbar could achieve this kind of effect without any rear channels, but I've been proven wrong. I'm not sure what kind of voodoo is in there, but it's good voodoo. Sound overall can get really loud, but remains clear. Setup was a breeze. My programmable remote supported this soundbar and got all the settings right the first time. I was looking forward to having an airplay device, I'm just so done with Bluetooth, and this soundbar delivers. After initial setup, I could play music from my phone straight away. The soundbar stays in standby mode most of the time and you can wake it by sending music to it. No need to manually turn it on and off. Nice touch! I think it took me longer to get this thing out of the box than it did to actually set up. I was up and running in about 15 minutes. If you want full room, three dimensional sound, or even just 7.1, you can't really go wrong with this soundbar. One last note, it really is eight inches tall. It's big. I'm in an apartment where I can't mount things to the wall, so I had to raise my TV up about four inches to get it to clear the soundbar. Make sure you have the sightlines for such a tall soundbar, especially if you can't mount your TV to the wall.

The best sound bar or surround sound system you will own, without the wires. It is so user friendly and stylish i just cant say enough on the job Yamaha has done with this sound bar. I was skeptical at first but once i fired it up, there was nothing else to say but sit, stare and listen in amazement. The Dolby Atmos sounds incredible, mission impossible rogue nation bike scene, WOW!! you hear every detail. Mad max you hear every explosion car sound nook and cranny from all over the room. It is definitely worth the price. If you are on the fence make the leap, last sound system you'll own.

I have been looking for a true surround sound system for quite a while, and this soundbar has solved the problems of running wires thru walls.
