I was looking for an AV receiver to use my Gaming rig and I found this outstanding unit, it does way more than what I need but it is connected to my Bose Accoustimass 16 series 2 and Doom, Crysis and the Battlefield series games never sounded better. I don't believe in anything getting 5 stars since there is nothing perfect out there.

Picked this up during a very brief sale new for $476 including tax to use as a 2 channel preamp. There is nothing close to this price to use as a 2 channel preamp with anywhere near the features and functionality of this product that I am aware of anyway. DSD via HDMI, streaming, on and on. I have not decided which 2 channel amp to purchase yet so have been using the internal amps for 2 channel music and the sub outs. Sounds great to my ears and allows me to take my time purchasing a separate 2 channel amp. Have played SACD's,DVD and Blu Ray Audio discs via the HDMI inputs from a Sony UBP X800M2 blu ray player after running Ypao and tweaking the various eq's, levels etc. and am really enjoying what I am hearing. Have used separate dacs to stream and use with cd players but the dacs in this thing sound really good considering what I paid. Registered it online with Yamaha which bumps the warranty from 3 years to 5 and hope to never call them. I could go on for days about what a great value vs performance this is. I do not understand why many people say that AVR'S suck for music either they have not tried a decent one or have no idea how to dig into the details to get the most out of them. A bonus too is if my main home theater AVR needs service I have a new spare.

Unit is MUCH larger receiver than old (other brand) unit. Minimalist to say the least? small display, few buttons, one huge knob, and one small one. Manageable heat production, considering it is located in a cabinet. Speaker setup was a snap with the included microphone, but I can't imagine trying to configure this unit without having a tv attached! As far as sound goes, the preprogrammed soundscapes are fine, but if you want only pass through Dolby surround, it takes some digging through the user manual to get there. I kind of gave up on setting EQ customization.

I purchased the Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A860 back in 2016 and have loved this receiver. It is still working perfectly so I decided to stay with Yamaha for my Florida home and purchased the RX-A2A and it does not disappoint. The music and sound from movies is so crisp and clear it gives you chills. Crutchfield is my all-time favorite company for this type of purchases as they are always ready to help with any and all issues with the equipment no matter how old. The systems can be challenging to setup at times as the manuals do not come with the unit as most new products do not the manuals are usually online nowadays.

Hookup was pretty straightforward. I had a 7.2 speaker system so it seemed a good fit. If you want Atmos, you will need upfiring or ceiling speakers. I didn't realize this initially and had a 7.2 speaker setup in my home from my last receiver. Receiver will alternate between surround rear and overhead speakers during playback, so I ordered and installed 2 new speakers. The setup is pretty painful in that the user manual is about 300 pages long and seems like it was written by IA and not a human trying to get things set properly. Not a lot of useful tips for what surround setting to use. Also not clear what surround setting to use for Atmos. Old receiver had a Dolby surround button, this does not. After 2 months of use the USB video output stopped working, so I had to get a replacement and hookup all the wires again, plus time to do so. Not very impressed and concerned with long term quality if failure within first 2 months. However, when all hooked up and set up using the microphone it provides some amazing sound. A few choice songs with a lot of dynamics at near maximum volume gave me goose bumps, very powerful amp with crisp clean sound and no distortion. Hopeful that this replacement lasts, I am used to 10-15 years of service in prior home stereo amps. Have great luck with my other Yamaha products.

The Yamaha RX-A2A received did not work long enough to evaluate. Stopped working after only the second time placed in service.

After trying 2 other brands of a/v receivers (thank you Crutchfield) to replace my Yamaha that lightening unfortunately took out, I couldn't be more pleased with this RX-A2A. It has the power to deliver exceptional sound to 2 rooms of speakers and the best, intuitive software app for my gen X self and android phone!

I have owned Yamaha RX-V1400 and the RX-V1800. This unit is much better in sound reproduction which I could not have imagined. Clarity of the sound stage is very noticable

This is my 3rd Yamaha receiver in the last 20 years...and I have updated due to changing tech landscape, not because I disliked my existing receiver. The receiver was a great deal and I compared capabilities to similar Denon and Marantz units...Yamaha won my "race". I love the Atmos capability and the 4k passthrough. Works great with my updated Klipsch speakers.

I gave this receiver an honest attempt, I really tried to like it. It was such a pain to program and never wanted to connect to the arc hdmi to my tv. When it did connect the sound processing was HORRIBLE, often muffled sound for dialog but background ambient sound was amplified. I returned it after a couple weeks of on and off trying to get it to work correctly and bought a Pioneer Elite instead.

Everything is great about this receiver-design, features, video and sound, EXCEPT it has a terrible audio delay and audio shutoff/cutout. While streaming anytime you fast forward through a commercial, there is about a three second delay before the audio turns back on. In addition, while streaming, often and intermittently, the audio will suddenly shutoff/ cutoff momentarily, then come back on. TERRIBLE and UNACCEPTABLE for a receiver of this quality and price to do so. Unfortunately, I have read of this same issue with the audio from other users/reviewers. YAMAHA needs to provide a fix to this problem for all of its users.

I have had Yamaha receivers for several years and have enjoyed each of them. I ventured into the Aventage series with the A1000. The receiver was an excellent performer. After having that for about 11 years the video processing died. So I decided to go with the A2A to replace it. Overall I find the A2A an excellent product. But I was disappointed when they removed the single rear speaker option (6.1 surround). It requires two rear surround speakers but in my setup there was no room to have two rear speakers. So I had to go back to a 5.1 setup. Still nice but disappointing. I also found the 5.1 setup with zone 2 a bit confusing. It took a few changes and tinkering to get it all working right. All in all I would still recommend the A2A.

ARC is an issue at TV power up. Have to use the "Scene" feature to have sound stay on. Extra step and can't make initial power on "idiot proof"

The microphone based autoconf sets up nonsensical values (speaker distances and levels seem to be way off). Setup is hard work, you pretty much need the manual next to you to know what the various settings mean, e.g.: to his day I am unsure if I have the amplifier setup correct. some in-context help and hints would be nice. E-arc interaction is mostly seamless with my modern Samsung TV, except when it is not. Sometimes the AVR gets randomly turned off, and the tv reverts to using its built in speakers. it is tall, so make sure to measure shelf space before deciding on furniture for it.

Overall, an exceptional upgrade to my old Yamaha receiver. I needed to upgrade the receiver when I bought my Xbox Series X and a 8k@60hz / 4k@120hz TV. My only quip: every now and then, when I power up my Xbox and arc3 turns on the receiver and the TV, I get "TV fuzz" like in the days of the old CRT TVs. All of my HDMI cables are UHD rated and the "TV fuzz" goes away by powering the receiver down and then powering it back up. I'm extremely satisfied with the overall quality of the receiver build, look and sound. It performs incredibly well! SUPER LOUD but more importantly, very crisp sound!

I purchased my very first Yamaha receiver in 2008 and to be honest I was reluctant to upgrade, but RX-A2A sounds a lot better. My biggest issue with my purchase is the crackling sound I get from my speakers using my HDMI 2.1. I don't get that sound or delay when I used the optical cable. But overall this is a great receiver.

This is a really nice receiver for the money pretty much has everything even HDMI 2.1 and is HDR 10+ ready Sound quality is outstanding with my Focal speakers. Have been using Yamaha receivers for years. That?s pretty much what I have experienced from Yamaha products, they don't heat up and built like tanks. Great investment!

Good receiver, you cannot bi-amp and also connect front-presence atmos speakers at the same time. Like if you use RP-8060FA. If you are buying speakers which require more than 100W as minimum power, then this receiver may not be a gppd fit as you need external ampliier with the options currently available.

Overall, I like this receiver thus far. The sound is typical Yamaha, which is a good thing. It has decent power and conveniences. I have only had it for a couple weeks, so I can't go into too much details yet, but it seems like it will work fine, powering my Klipsch reference premier/SVS sub 5.1 system. I dinged it one star because the setup can be confusing and time consuming. It definitely takes some time to figure everything out. I still have a wrinkle or two to work out...but it is almost setup the way I like.

Yamaha's Best So Far!
By PRECISE E.
Purchased the RX-A2A in late November of 2021 to complement purchase of new Sony 55" X950H and Sony UBP-X800M2 4K disc player. I wanted a receiver that had Dolby Atmos and that would also pass Dolby Vision and HDR. The RX-A2A was replacing a 10 year old Yamaha RX-A820 which is in perfect condition and very much admired. The RX-A2A is my 5th Yamaha A/V receiver. Yes, I am a Yamaha devotee to say the least but Yamaha A/V equipment is just simply the best and I've owned many different brands. I ...
