The piano sounds wonderful. Its sounds and actions are similar to acoustic Yamaha piano. With a good headphone it's amazing. I'm using with the Audio-Technica M50X. One thing I hate about this piano is the settings. There is no display so in order to change any setting you'll have to hold down a button on the piano then press the keys. Without a quick guide or a manual, it's hard to adjust the settings. It's not friendly at all. Even changing the metronome speed is a hassle.

I am a 2nd year piano student and the piano is ideal for my use. My major likes are: 1) Great sound. 2) Key action. 3) No tuning required. 4) Light enough to move easily. 5) Relatively low cost 6) Looks. (It doesn't look like a digital piano.)

I am disappointed in the tuning of four notes in the second octave above middle C. I spoke with the store rep and he said that if the note/key isn't broken, there's no way to correct the problem. He said the pianos in the showroom probably all have the same defect. On the positive side, although the piano was complicated to assemble, the directions were clear and it took no more than an hour and a half to assemble.

If you have a child that wants to begin studying music and playing piano more seriously, this is the cheapest piano you can get that has a good action, sound and decent dynamics. Don't go any cheaper than this. If you are an amateur this piano can fitful all of your needs. I have it and I'm pleased with it. The best sound you'll get is through headphones. Only downside is that you have will be operating piano's functions with piano keys and you must read manual in order to know which combination of keys will have the desired function. Nothing complicated tho.

I already own a harpsichord. This piano beats many uprights (even really fine ones, because they are not sufficiently in tune or regulation!). It's small enough to fit in the apartment, and can be carried by 2 persons. The ivory-like key surfaces work like bone and wood harpsichord keytops - they feel good under the fingertips, and as one plays, they fade away, like the rest of the instrument, leaving only the player and the music. It would be good to have one or more historical piano sounds, temperaments, and additional touch settings for Mozart and Schubert available, but the default piano sound is already fabulous.

The Yamaha YDP-162 Arius 88-Key Digital Piano with Bench features a graded-hammer action keyboard with synthetic ivory keytops that is designed to emulate the feel of an acoustic piano. It has Damper, Sostenuto and Soft foot pedals with continuous control. It provides playback from its two oval speakers and built-in dual 20-watt amplifiers or its two 1/4" headphone jacks. The YDP-162 allows you to select between hard, medium and soft sensitivity types to correspond with your playing style.
The YDP-162 is built on Yamaha's PureCF sound engine that powers its ten built-in voices. You can combine two voices simultaneously, allowing you to create new sounds. It also features Yamaha's Acoustic Optimizer, which is designed to adjust acoustical flow and control resonances.
A built-in two-track MIDI recorder allows you to capture a performance and play it back. Using this feature, you can record your right- and left-hand performances separately at any tempo. The YDP-162 also comes with 50 songs built into its internal memory, allowing you to learn the tracks at a reduced tempo or one hand at a time.
