The recorder is small and generally easy to use. Some features are cloaked behind odd labels on the limited button selection. The wave form display when recording seems accurate and is very easy to see on the back lit LED screen. The knob on the shotgun mic module is a very fast and easy to way to adjust audio levels. The shotgun mic has a very nice sound quality and a generic lavalier mic I have had for a while works very well with a 3.5mm jack. There are a very wide variety of recording file formats to choose from but I can't tell a difference between most of them, but I am no audio expert. SLR shooters should note that the set up is fairly large for mounting on top of an SLR. Due to this the mic will likely be visible on a wider lens but should not be visible on 50mm or longer lenses.
