Stephen D : What SD card comes with this? What else comes with it? Is there a case?Ronald S : You provide the SD card. It comes in a clear plastic coffin case that seems fairly durable. I don't use mine much, but when I do record at music festivals it sounds great. I like the XLR locks. That's about it.JOSEPH P : Package includes : H4nPro - Protective Case - (2) AA Batteries - User Manuel . There is no SD card . You can use a card from 16mb up to 32gb . The 32gb card will give you hours of recording time , even if you record four tracks at ounce . I highly recommend the H4nPro . In addition , you will get a free download of Cubase LE for your DAW .

I suggest plugging your guitar directly into the recorder and using the guitar preamp effects in the MTR mode . Also , I suggest downloading the user manual to explore all the different ways of recording your guitar .John V : I am able to turn mine down substantially, but I have not idea how it will work with an electric guitar, particularly if hard-wired to the amp.

Great Audio Recorder for any audio expected to be altered in post

This is a high quality 24 bit audio recorder with a lot of controls. Used this to record a live mix of an Opera and it's audio was great even after I messed around with the audio in post.

Capable sound recorder, awful battery life, slow startup

At the price the H4n Pro is capable of high quality recording. The battery life is short even if using high capacity eneloop batteries, it's even shorter if using phantom power. The preamps have about 42db of gain, which is enough if using high output condenser mics. Startup time is very slow and recorder is picky about SD cards used. Build quality is very good, it does not feel cheap, except the battery door; it feels flimsy.

Captures crispy, clean audio

The sound the H4n pro is able to capture is just magnificent. It's crispy, clean, and captures the deep rumble in a voice. The ONLY downside to this recorder is that it takes roughly 30 seconds to power up. Other than that, the built feels and looks professional, the buttons have a nice recoil, and the menus are easy to navigate.

Sound Quality is Epic!

I've been using 4 different recording devices: My Sony A7II, an audiotechnica external microphone, a Movo lavalier mic and a Panasonic Lumix. The sound quality of the H4n is amazing. It's like having equalizer and reverb automatically! No echo shows up in the audio file even though the room is really big and open with a bad echo.

Great recorder at a great price.

I use the recorder to record a from a fed off of a mixer. I then use the audio for creating content in videos. The quality of the audio i get from this recorder has made a world of difference in the videos I create.

Impressive and full of wonderful features Zoom H4N Pro is the One

I spent a lot of time researching and once I learn about the new Zoom H4N Pro, was hands down the best one for my needs and excellent price point compared to the other ones. I am still experimenting with it and can say it is worth checking out if you have the older version or just want to check out Zoom products.

Easy set up Much Improved Pro Level Pre Amps

this little unit offers a terrific upgrade to the original. The pre amps are clean offering pro level audio quality. If there was one thing I would like to see improved on this unit is the quality of the headphone amp, turning it up gives you a false sense of noise that the mic pre amps are not producing.

High Performance Mic Preamps
The Pro features the same high performance, low-noise mic preamps as our acclaimed Zoom H5 and H6 Handy Recorders, with recording and playback at resolutions up to 24-bit/96 kHz. The improved noise floor (-120 dBu EIN) captures audio at lower volumes with less noise and fewer artifacts.

Built-In Stereo Recording
X/Y stereo recording covers a wide area while capturing sound sources in the center with clarity and definition. The angle of its two unidirectional condenser mics can easily be changed from 90 degrees for a tightly focused stereo image to 120 degrees for a wider image simply by twisting the mic capsules.
The H4n Pro provides an onboard MS decoder for Mid-Side recording with external microphones. This allows you to adjust the width of the stereo image, making it especially useful for sound design and broadcasting.

Inputs
The two locking combo connectors accept either XLR or 1/4" balanced/unbalanced phone cables, handling mic and line level signals as well as instrument level signals. Phantom Power of +24 or +48 volts can be applied to both inputs. Plus, there's a stereo 1/8" Mic jack for external audio sources, including lavalier microphones requiring 2.5 volts of plug-in power.

Outputs
A stereo 1/8" Line/Phone Out, with dedicated volume control, allows for headphone monitoring or connection to your DSLR, while the built-in monophonic speaker allows for quick playback reference. STEREO MODE uses the built-in X/Y microphones (or external mics) and is convenient for recording live performances, acoustic instruments, dialogue, and more.

In 4CH MODE, you can record with the built-in X/Y mics and two external inputs simultaneously, great for getting live room sound and a stereo board feed at the same time.

MTR MODE (Multi-track Mode) turns your device into a four-track studio, with built-in effects, overdub functions, and the ability to work with previously recorded sound files.

Pre-Record

Pre-Record (for STEREO/4CH mode)
Pre-Record ensures that you'll never miss the start of a great take. The device is continuously listening, keeping the previous two seconds* of audio whenever you hit RECORD.
*One second when recording at 96k or working 4CH mode.

Auto-Record

Auto-Record (for STEREO/4CH mode)
Auto-Record automatically starts recording when a user-set sound level is detected. There's also an Auto-Record Stop function, which ends the recording as soon as the incoming signal drops below the user-set stop level.

Remote Control
Use the optional RC4 remote to control the H4n Pro. The RC4 allows you to start and stop re-cording, fast forward and rewind through your files, switch the input source, and set recording/playback levels at a distance while eliminating handling noise.

The Pro records audio in both WAV and MP3 formats. It supports 16- and 24-bit WAV audio at sampling rates of 44.1, 48, or 96 kHz. The WAV files are automatically time-stamped, making them Broadcast Wave Format (BWF) compliant, allowing precise synchronization in post-production.
