james m : what would be the best recorder for a college student / lecture classes with 100 or so people?MARK S : This is pretty ideal. Very simple and fantastic quality. Highly recommended.Dax C : the microphone is very sensitive if you move it on your table or you tap the table or there is a lot of noise right around where you are going to pick up that pretty well I took it to a conference and recorded the speaker on stage was broadcasting with a microphone and it caught the recording very well although the person sitting next to me was tapping on the table and moving cups around so it picked up that noise as well. overall I find a very very clear microphone and love itEVERGREEN P : James, The H1 is a great little DA Recorder. I use mine in circumstances similar to your needs. I record large groups. Just make sure that the speaker is either relatively close or is amplified well or that you have a small shotgun mic. Remember this is a stereo recorder and it will pick up stray noise easily. So you will need someway to isolate the sounds that you would like. Plus you have several hours of recording time and battery life is really great. Should you need any more info just let me know.TIMOTHY A : The item works great for lecture but use a lapel mic and attached itLESLIE D : Only if the teacher allows you to put the recorder close to where he is speaking. This recorder records great sound within its vicinity and blocks out noise outside its vicinity. So if the teacher is within range you should get good coverage, if the teacher is far away. the device will treat his voice as noise.
Shopper : This unit comes with a 2GB micro SD card. Can it use a higher capacity SD card ?BLAIRE J : I have been using a SanDisk Ultra 16GB micro SD card.JASON G : Yes. I use a 16 GB card in mine and I believe it will take up to a 32MICHAEL F : Yes, it can take up to 32 Gig. Hours of recording. I haven't found it necessary to get a bigger one than the 2 Gig supplied as its only audio.TIMOTHY A : Yes,I have used a 8 gb card which will yield 10 hrs of recording in the wav formattNICOLE H : Yes I have an 8g in mineJames S : noKRISTIN D : yes it canERIC R : Yes I have an 8 gb card on mine
JAN M : If used on a DSLR Canon camera on the shoe adapter, can I get an hour of the sound captured, with occasional single shots of the band?KRISTIN D : yes, the bigger the card you use the longer you can recordDax C : The shoe does not let you record images to the device. It only lets the recorder sit on top of your camera. My experience so far is that any movement on anything it is connected to or touching is picked up by the mic. If you handle the device while recording, or sit it on a table, any vibration or movement is picked up. If I were mounting it on a camera I would consider suspending it so that no part of the recorder is touching anything. They have those mounts specifically available online.James S : I use it with a Canon 6D & 7D but I also use a clap board to line up the audio and video in post.JASON G : If you do it that way, I think you will need to record straight to the device rather than using a short 1/8" to 1/8" cable to record directly to the camera's SD card. Recording to the camera's SD card is nice for video so you do not have to match up video and audio later, but I am about 99% sure that if you switch to photo mode it will not be recording audio. As far as an hour or recording time you should be fine as long as your batteries are full and you have a large enough micro SD card in the Zoom.

great product for the price point

so far it works flawlessly. it would be nice if it had a belt clip accessory for use when using the lavaliere mic. it does fit in your pocket to a degree. this unit has had so many reviews and how to videos made about it which makes learning to use it very simple. combined with wind shields, dead cat, lav mic, shock mount and other accessories its a well rounded professional grade product. I'm loving using it. it also shipped here very fast. however the additional accessories were slow in shipping and seem to be routed ridiculously out of the normal shipping path making them get here much later. I'd suggest you order it and all accessories at the same time which could speed up shipping at possibly no to low cost. I built my own shock mount and that helped the unit make even better recordings.

Using this for last 5 years without any issues

The recorder has two choices of recording .WAV and .MP3. Very convenient switches to toggle. Gain control option. I have been using this for music recordings for last 5 years. No issues, physical wear and tear is there but recording sound quality is amazing. Even we used for radio broadcast recordings and this H1 outperformed many expensive brand recorders.

Zoom! Great Upgrade to my Nikon 3100 Video

Used this item for the last two weeks to help with our church video productions. I have Nikon 3100 and this video quality was great but the sound was horrible! I know just use a sound "clap" before I start recording. I import all sound from the Zoom and video from the Nikon into my editing program. I then align the sound from the zoom with onboard video sound from the Nikon by using the sound "clap" at the begging of the recording! Presto! Then disable the sound clip from the video recording and its replaced by the Zoom sound clip. It does take an extra step but I needed something without breaking the bank and investing in a new camera.

Great for travel

Very useful for conventions and business meetings. The portability with the tripod mount make recording very clear with no distraction upon review.

Great Portable Recorder

We use this device to record audio for video projects. It has been a great little tool for what we paid. I am always surprised at the great quality we get. This thing picks up everything so be careful when using it when there is a lot of wind. It is small and light so we get really creative with its use. It has saved us on more spare-of-the-moment changes requiring creative audio than I care to count.
