Sharpest 24-70 on the market for Nikon F-mount. Excellent color and contrast. Only drawback is it lacks image stabilization. Never presented a problem for me but your mileage may vary. Tremendous bargain at this price point.

This is a replacement glass for my canon 24-105. Its a nice glass. Its bulky but feels very nice. Focus on this lens is nice at f/stops from 2.8-8. The down fall to this lens is it blows highlights out alot. Its not very good in outdoors. You have to shoot at a higher shutter to order to control the highlights. You have to use a shutter of 1/800 to control highlights. Otherwise its a decently sharp glass

Had my doubts purchasing this lens. I’m always purchasing brand names. But I decided to roll the dice. So far loving it. Super clear and sharp out if the box. It has some shake during filming handheld because it has no image stabilizer. But for handheld pics super good so far. I’m excited to see what I can do with this lens.

Lens performed so well that it's my all purpose lens. Great for landscape and portraits. Solidly built and a bit heavy but no a big issue. The AF to MF ring can transition a little smoother but that's my only complaint.

Solidly built. The cobined manual focus ring and switch works like a charm! Image quality is great.

I haven't had this lens for very long yet, but Adorama is bugging me to review it ;-) Usually I shoot landscapes but the only time I've used this lens was at a wedding just for me and family; I was not the official photographer. Research before the purchase warned me that this lens is heavy, and it is. I'm using it on a D7000 with the idea to use it on a future full-frame camera. The pictures came out nice and the F2.8 is really noticeable compared to my other lenses which are mostly F4, F5.6, etc. Even in low light it is possible to get very sharp pictures with this lens. I did some experiments at home, sitting at my desk, taking pictures of my bookshelf to see how sharp it is. Really nice! Can't wait to take it out once the weather clears up and time permits. The only drawback so far, is that the zoom ring turns the other direction from my Nikon lenses. At the wedding I found myself constantly zooming in, when I wanted to zoom out. I'm guessing that with more frequent use that little "problem" will go away.

Let's get the obvious things out of the way: yes, this lens is big, and heavy. But if you can get over that, this lens is a stellar performer. It's very sharp - the sharpness rivals the Nikon version. I've used The Nikon non-VR version, and the contrast is equally good, and the AF is very quick and accurate. Costwise, it's a no-brainer. I've been very happy with it, and highly recommend it.

Just upped my game to a full frame canon body and got this lens as well. OMG the difference in quality of my pics now is stunning. Kinda heavy but built like a tank and I look forward to many years of use.

I have another Tokina lens, (11-16 2.8) very please with everything about it. The Tokina 24-70 2.8... Pros: Very well built Very sharp images Great price Cons: Slow auto focus Hard time focusing in low light I'm a pet photographer, I need my lens to be fast! When I click that shutter halfway to focus, it can't take a full second to focus. The dogs are miles away, the facial expressions are lost. This is in outdoor, bright light conditions too! When I took it into the studio for 'testing' in the area where it would be used most, it went from bad to worse. Low light, but bright enough for my other lenses to focus, not the Tokina. It searched and searched, 2 seconds? 3 seconds? My 28-135 kit lens from 8 years ago would focus fine, the Tokina would not. I loved everything about the lens, with the exception of the focusing. I have a hard time giving it a bad review, its not a bad lens. Its just not a lens that is useful to me and what I shoot. Is it possible that I had a bad lens? Maybe! Adorama has no problems taking the lens back, but I didn't want to push my luck and try another, I'm not sure they'd be so willing to accept another return of the same lens. Adorama support was... less than helpful with this purchase other than taking it back, but thats another story...

Amazing sharpness and capabilities in low light with great bokeh. Shooting portraits or group photos has been awesome with this lens. It is the sweet spot in zoom and aperture for me. I'm using a canon 5d mkii and it works as well as i could've hoped. I can confirm that it is a very solidly built and heavy lens, so strengthen those muscles, and at times AF is a little slow but for the price of this lens, these weaknesses are definitely worth the compromise.

A big heavy, but very sharp in the corners from 24 to 70 mm. Very well built quality.

Having just completed testing and getting acclimated to this lens, I am impressed. Excellent sharpness and easy handling from this rather heavy 24-70. It's literally half the cost of the Nikkor, but performance would be hard to beat. Very well-executed build quality, which is probably the explanation for the size and weight of this F2.8 baby. My only complaint, which I can live with, is that there is no aperture ring to use the lens in a manual or aperture priority mode in a non-AF/auto camera. That's why I gave four rather than five stars. Still, highly recommended.

I own both this Tokina 24-70mm and the Canon EF-L 24-70 USM lenses, and I think that the Tokina holds up extremely well to its higher-priced competitor. I think that the Canon has a slight edge when shooting wide-open, but for most shots I'm hard-pressed to tell the difference. I recently used this lens on my Blackmagic 4k Production Camera for a commercial shoot and the image held up extremely well all the way to f/2.8. The lens is durable, just the right weight, shorter than my EF-L (which helps in tight spaces), and I feel like the image sharpness is good throughout the zoom range. I take away one star for two "quirks" the lens has: One, the focus ring clicks between AF and MF modes. I like to hit the auto-focus trigger on my camera as a starting point and then make small adjustments from there, which is not possible with this lens. You're either in full autofocus or full manual focus mode. Second, the focus pull is much shorter than I am used to. This might be a selling point for some, but I feel like it's a bit too quick, which makes it easy to over-pull in some cases (granted, that would likely only apply in video scenarios and not be an issue for still photography). Overall, this is an extremely solid lens. The components feel high quality, the image is great, and it's markedly less expensive than its Canon counterpart.

I really wanted to love this lens, it is built like a tank and I like the way it looked on my camera. Unforunately my copy was soft at the wider aperture. I returned it.

I'm going to have to work with this lens some more to figure out what's up with the autofocus. So far it's been hit and miss. On my D600 it often overexposes the shot, and again I'm going to need to figure out why this is. But when it works right, and you focus it correctly, the results are wonderful. And yes, it's a heavy sucker!

This lens was bought for use primarily with the 7D Mark II, and the results are phenomenal. Of course, the camera plays a part in the picture, along with the photographer, but the glass quality is the biggest contributor to the final image. I use manual focus quite a bit, and Tokina's engineering switching back and forth is so easy - pulling the focus ring back for manual, and pushing it forward for auto focus. Now this is a really cool feature - in auto focus, the focus ring moves freely so you can't foul-up the focus mechanism.

This Tokina 24-70/2.8 is very sharp, well-made with very affordable price, but it's big and heavy. AF speed is reasonable, no VR. For people who shoot landscape and/or work on a tripod or price matters , this is lens to buy. I am used to it from using it on my Tokina 2.8 100mm macro lens, so manual focus is not a big deal. So far, I am very happy with this lens.

Right off the bat, I have to say this lens is a fantastic buy. I am an amateur/enthusiast when it comes to photography and moved on to my first full-frame DSLR (Nikon D750) this holiday season and was looking into a general-purpose lens to go with it. The main thing I was looking for was a fast lens with a moderate zoom range. I considered the 24-70mm F/2.8 lenses from Nikon, Tamron, SIgma but eventually decided on the Tokina. They are all mostly similar in specs, but this one is significantly cheaper. The lens is sharp and quick to focus, colors look great. I have seen reviews that the auto-focus on Nikon's lens is faster, but the AF on the Tokina doesn't seem "slow" by any means. The main drawback is that this lens is a the heaviest of the lot. You can get used to it, but you will feel like you are lugging it around. That said, the other lenses in this range aren'e exactly "light" (they are all around the 2 lbs mark). That also means the lens feels solid in your hand and is less prone to shake. All in all, I'm loving this lens. Unless you are a professional photographer obsessed over the minutest details of a lens's performance, this lens will not disappoint.

My lens is not sharp like most reviews said. it's just a bit sharper than kit lens of my Nikon d600. I am thinking about returning but I may keep it because good price.

I have been waiting for a 24-70 2.8 lens for quite some time. Once this hit that low sale price I grabbed it instantly. The Pros: Tack sharp, and the focusing on it is killer. I am a portrait photographer and for the kids, it is always good with movement. It grabs light and contrast perfectly and keeps skin tones and color very nice. The Cons: Very heavy. I did 4 hours back to back using it and my hands were killing me. However, it’s worth it for what you get. Also, the zoom ring is stiff. And can be a little difficult using two fingers to move it. But I’d say it’s worth the investment. It’s an incredibly sharp lens and works great for my type of work.

The glass itself seems fine. I have never used a Tokina lens before but I felt that for the price it should have had a smoother zoom and focus ring. Also, the ring for switching between AF and MF was stiff. Was it a bad copy or is this they way Tokina's are built? I don't know the answer to that question.

RELYING ON TOKINA
By Patrick
I just took delivery of a new Tokina 24-70mm f/2.8 ATX-PRO FX and could not be more pleased with the two weeks of test shots I took of sunshine lit Fall Colors as well as indoors, available light family pictures. I am adding this to an all Tokina lens kit for an upcoming trip to South America; including a 100mm f/2.8 (also Macro) and 12-24mm f/4. These 3 Tokina lenses will cover all my landscape and city street shots. I shoot a Nikon D7100 DX sensor and the 1.5x factor works fine for me. ...

Finally! a quality 24-70mm for my Nikon
By Matthew D.
I've been shooting with Nikon Camera's and lenses for over 20 years and the last decent mid-range zoom they made was the 35-70mm 2.8D. I have also used Nikon's 24-70mm 2.8G lens and wasn't really happy with that lens out of the 3 Nikon copies I had 2 had close focusing issue's and the last had zoom issues but If you get a good copy they work great! After reading the Tokina reviews I dared to buy a third party lens for my Nikon D810..... Thank goodness I did! 10x better build than Nikon and eq...

Tokina gives full-frame photographers a 24mm wide-angle to 70mm moderate telephoto lens with a fast F/2.8 aperture at an affordable price. The new groundbreaking proprietary optical design uses three precision molded all-glass aspherical lens elements to achieve excellent contrast, sharpness, and corrects for spherical aberrations.
One of these elements is very special and difficult to manufacture. G09, is made from Super-Low Dispersion (SD) glass and is a large sized aspherical element. These lens elements also yield even illumination across the whole image sensor.
The Tokina 24-70MM lens also uses three SD (super-low Dispersion, FK01 and FK03) glass elements in the rear groups to control chromatic aberrations. All these specialized lens elements work in consort to yield maximum resolution to match the 50-megapixel DSLR cameras entering the market.
The fast constant F/2.8 aperture makes viewing and auto focusing possible in very low light situations while keeping some flexibility for setting the shutterspeed. In addition to excellent optics, the lens incorporates a fast moving SDM (SilentDrive-Module) motor to greatly reduce AF noise making it one of Tokina's quickest and quietest auto-focusing lenses to date.
Tokina's exclusive One-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism allows the photographer to switch between AF and MF simply by snapping the focus ring forward for AF and back toward the lens mount for manual focusing. The lens is also designed to stand up to the rigors of daily use by photographers in a wide variety of shooting conditions and environments.
