About Vivitar

The Vivitar 3-Piece 77mm UV/CPL/ND Filter Kit is manufactured from high-quality solid optical materials. Each individual filter is heat-treated and multi-coated to avoid any rare movement or distortion. The Ultra Violet filters minimize the bluish cast sometimes found under daylight conditions. These filters will render your photos clearer, sharper and with more contrast. They are also the best available protection against accidental damage to the front element of your lens. If you accidentally drop your lens, you will be protected against nicks and scratches. As a lens protector, it should be left on at all times.

The CPL filter is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. Vivitar's circular polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot and they will provide protection for your lens while shooting. Vivitar filters are perfect for digital SLR cameras or traditional 35mm SLR applications.

The Neutral Density filter reduces intensity of all wavelengths or colors of light equally, giving no changes in hue or color rendition. The purpose of standard photographic neutral density filters is to allow the photographer greater flexibility to change the aperture, exposure time and/or blur of subject in different situations and atmospheric conditions. Instead of reducing the aperture to limit light, the photographer can add a ND filter and can then set the shutter speed according to the particular motion desired and the aperture set as needed.

It was free

This set was a included with the purchase of a Nikon lens. Spending the amount I did on the lens I really didn't think this set of filters had the quality needed to be used on a $1,000 lens. I was right. The UV works well but the CPL and ND filters lack the quality needed to be used for anything other than an expensive lens.

Do not use these filters

These filters came free with the purchase of Nikon 80-400mm lens. My wife used the lens for a few weeks, attaching the UV filter to protect the front glass. She kept complaining that despite the great reviews, the lens was not sharp under any conditions or setting. She was on the verge of sending the lens back thinking she had gotten a clunker, when she decided to do an "studio" test. The result was astounding, The images without the filter were tack sharp, while the ones with the filter were dull and soft. I would recommend not using these filters. It is surprising that Adorama would include these with an expensive lens (or any lens) and run the risk of people returning a perfectly good lens thinking it was garbage when it was these lousy filters all along.

two out of three isn't bad odds

By

from St. Louis, MO  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The UV and polarizers both seem to be well made. The ND filter is another story. The coating apprears uneven and won't clear off. I didn't need any of the filters. Adorama offered them free. I'm sure that if I paid to ship them back to Vivitar, they would be exchanged for another set. As a free gift, I don't see spending the money. Polarizers are wonderful at darkening the sky and removing reflections. They don't work with many of today's zooms as the mazimum aperture is already at f/5.6 and you loose two stops with the filter. This drops the light to F/11 at very best. It's that or a high ISO. The included filter case is nice.

Decent filters for the price

By

from Montana  -  Pro Photographer

While nothing to brag about, the price makes this a pretty good deal for the casual shooter. The CPL and ND filters are effective, but the UV filter is pretty poor and will cause flare and intermediate reflections due to poor coatings. Useful in a pinch but a very poor choice for a protective filter.

Why Include?

By

from Homer Glen, IL  -  Photo Enthusiast

This package was included free with a $2300 lens purchase. Why would anyone put these products onto a quality lens is beyond me.

Thanks Adorama! Soon as I received my new wide-angle lens from your business I put the UV filter on it. This is a nice kit to have with a great lens.

Bonus Filter Kit.

By

from Orlando Florida  -  Pro Photographer

First let me say that Adorama is great. The products I purchase is great. I did not purchase this $15.00 filter kit. It was a bonus add on, but when you purchases a $3000 lens you do not purchase cheap filters. Just saying' This is why I gave it 3 stars… so I never really used it, nor would I every use it… but thanks for looking any way.

ND density not exactly neutral

By

from Toronto, Ontario, Canada  -  Photo Enthusiast

It's a really good price point but does have issues. I also found the Neutral Density Filter not quite neutral... it shifted the colour a little. I found the Multi Coat UV filter has some issues with reflections. When I was taking pictures of fireworks I found many shots had reflections (I think) of the firework light creating a ghost image up and to the right. Perhaps it was bouncing off the front element on the lens and onto the back side of the UV filter.
