I ordered these instead of the Westcott 50-Watt Daylight Fluorescent Lamps to save some money. I am using the TD6, needless to say the lighting seems awful. It is not high powered enough to properly light my subject. Using with a 50X50 softbox. I was expecting some beautiful soft lighting but will go ahead and invest in the real bulbs from Westcott.

I'm an artist and needed to replace hot tungsten bulbs with cooler color-correct fluorescents to photograph my paintings accurately. These use much less energy to put much more color-balanced light, but with a fraction of the heat. They look like a perfect for my needs.

Just What I've Been Looking For!

like other have posted here this is ***NOT THE WATTAGE THAT IS CLAIMED!***.i have some 30w Eiko bulbs and this Flashpoint 45w measures about the same. now with that said, for [$] its not a bad price but i really wanted more wattage than the 30w it gave. [...].ive only tried 2 of the 9 bulbs i ordered and they both worked fine. others here have said they had failures and i suspect these will too.

Great Bulbs

Some reviewers report the bulb is 25 watts as measured, not 45 watts as labeled. I tested it with a Kill-A-Watt meter: volts, 120; amps, 0.37; volt-amps, 44; watts, 26-28; power factor, 58 percent. These results are consistent with the bulb's 45-watt rating. And once it warms up, it clearly emits more light than a 6500K 18-watt compact fluorescent.

I'm not sure how useful these numbers are. Putting the bulb in a large, black-walled, darkened room and measuring incident light at a set of standardized distances with a standard protocol might provide more useful information.

A reasonable value

The lamp is probably OK for what it is, but if you're wanting a 45 watt lamp with 225 watt equivalency, don't buy this one. It runs around 25 watts and puts out about 100 watts equivalent. If you need 225 watts equivalent per bulb you'll come up short with this one every time. It's a decent 25 watt bulb but it's advertised as a 45 watt bulb. Don't be fooled. Even its physical size should suggest to you that it's not even close to what it claims to be. And it doesn't look like the one in the picture either.

Lamp not as spec'd

Following several other review regarding the light out put I did a simple test comparing Flashpoint and Westcott Daylight balanced (5500K) flourecent light bulbs.1. Flashpoint 5500K 30W (FPFB30) - $32.452. Flashpoint 5500K 45W (FPFB45) - [$]3. Westcott 27W (WESLT275) - $944. Westcott 50W - 4x50W, 1x20W (WE50WFL5P) - $146.90 I used a TD5 with a Westcott 36" x 48" Bruce Dorn Shallow Soft Box (no inner buffle)I measured about 12 feet from the light source using Sekonic 358, (ball inside) in a dark room. Flashpoint vs Westcott

This is a nicely made bulb, but it is only half of what it claims to be. Instead of being a 45 watt lamp, it is in reality a 25 watt lamp with about the same output as a 100 watt tungsten bulb. Thinking the output was low for the claimed wattage, I measured it with a watt meter. It should be labeled for what it really is, a 25 watt bulb. It is a nice 25 watt bulb. But you're paying for a 45 watt bulb. That's the problem. Note also there is no UL listing on this product. I've found that compact fluorescent bulbs that bear no UL listing are never the output power they claim to be. UL checks not only for product safety but also that the product meets its claimed specifications. This one clearly does not.
