Review Summary

I've had this for just over a year now and, while I've almost never bothered to write a review of anything, I felt that this one deserved it. In theory, it seemed like a good tripod for the money. I've used a few 3 Legged Thing products and thought they were good value. However this is built in such a way that there are tons of little fiddle bolts that hold it together. These get loose and must be regularly tightened with the included wrench. Not a problem if that was a couple of bolts once a week or so. However it's not. It's a LOT of bolts constantly. I made the mistake of not retightening one yesterday in the middle of my shoot day (I'd, of course, tightened them all before the day started) and down came my new Canon R5 and RF70-200 onto the cement floor. Most expensive tripod EVER!

First, the top, right under where you put the head, is kind of sharp, and thats where i hold it most of the time. Day 1 it cut my thumb. Next, the legs are pretty stiff to open and close. and they squeak pretty badly. Im sure I could loosen them and even grease them, but that is not what I want to be doing on day 1 of owning a tripod. There also was a rattling, but that turned out to be a loose foot. Which again, right out of the box should not be something im dealing with. But an easy fix, so no big deal. If you didn't know, on this tripod you can unscrew each leg. Seems like a great idea. But I really wish there was a lock of some sorts for this. When opening the legs I was also (at times) loosening them. so I'd have to open the legs, then tighten them again. Lastly, and this is personal preference, i wish it had a smaller footprint. It has 3 adjustment levels for this, but even the lowest level has the legs over 30" apart from each other. My old giottos (may it rest in peace) had legs that were just 21" apart, which was great for the work i do (property photography).
