I've been shooting a d5 - mostly for sports - for four years now. seems to be able to shoot 9FPS forever while autofocusing. football, hockey, lacrosse and snow ski images are made so much easier by the camera's speed. the second shutter for vertical is useful. I shoot a lot of football at night and routinely have the camera at 51,200 ISO. once put through Lightroom, the low light capabilities of this camera are unbelievable.

After switching in October 2018 to Nikon from using Sony/Minolta DSLR system I can honestly say the D5 is the ABSOLUTE LOW LIGHT KING!! I have seen mirrorless cameras come to the market and I have to say I have not seen any photographer to date use their mirrorless full frame cameras like I have the D5. Fantastic imaging at the Lucas Oil Pro Tractor Pull under poor lighting conditions along with tracking and photographing dragon flies in flight. I own two D5's and would not trade them at this point. Image quality is GREAT for what I do. I hope to see a D6!

Excellent camera. Works well in all conditions, and extreme temperatures, both very cold (North Pole and Mount Everest) and very warm (Taklamakan desert). Heavy but reliable and bomb proof.

My favorite DSLR Purchase of my entire 35+ years as a photographer! Fits my large hands perfectly. This Camera body with the two QXD card slots is the awesome camera body of its time. I know own a Nikon D850, as a second / backup. Very happy with this purchase from Adorama Camera!

Phenomenal pictures taken at Carlsbad cavern in New Mexico. I set iso on auto while shooting with a AF-S Nikkor 24-70 mm f/2.8 E. ED VR lens. The auto focus was great and locked onto most everything I wanted pics of. There isn’t much light in the cave but the D5 captured pictures that are simply amazing. The most amazing thing with this camera was pictures taken on a rock outcrop in Texas. I was at a national park looking for the drawings left by native Americans from many years ago. I could not see the drawings with my naked eye so I decided to take pictures where the drawings were supposed to be. After downloading to my computer I was able to see the artwork in stunning detail. In my opinion the D5 is truly an amazing camera.

I'm a professional photographer, working seven days a week, normally 8-12 hour days including editing. I don't have time to waste and can't compromise on image quality and need a fast workflow. The settings in the Nikon D5 body are extremely helpful, particularly the ability to remove warm tone from images. In the past, that was a workflow time sucker. The D5 has 3 - settings dealing with color tone and there are more which are available for what you do most. for me, that's portraiture. In-camera, I can set it for portrait tone which evens out skin tones and keeps them realistic before I get into post-production. The D5 is a beast and the battery lasts all day long without swapping out. Even when going heavy on the video grabs, I've never had the battery go below 55% I sent the body in to NPS for repair of the gui glass which I cracked. I also had a temporary problem with the card door sticking and not wanting to open. Nikon fixed that at no charge and had it back in less than a week. Comfort in the hand is perfect for all day shooters like me. It is a little tricky at first when you go back and forth between the D5, D4s, and D4, they re-arranged some of the controls which threw me for a loop at first, but I'm good now. ISO, in particular, has found a new place with the D5. I recommend the Nikon D5 for any kind of photography, it has the speed for sports or equestrian events in my case, and the extreme low-light capabilities I need when finding myself not being able to use flash in low light settings! No reservations at all about endorsing this body, rugged good looks and top-notch performer each and every time.

I have been using the D5 for about two years. It has been amazing for action sports, air shows, motorsports and any circumstance that requires frame rate or higher ISO. It may not be first choice for pure Wedding photography, but it will still provide incredible images. Very quick and accurate focus choices as well as sensor performance and color. Durable body and reliable.

Heavy and bulky camera. Unless you are into sports photography or do a lot of picture taking under los light conditions I would probably go with the D850. A bit overpriced.

Love this camera, have used it to mainly shoot sports lately and does it make a difference. Used the D700 previously to photograph basketball and football; that speed does not even come close to the D5. I bought the XQD card version which was recommended because of its fast writing. Glad I was able to make this purchase

Had the D3s and D4s and also a D810. The D5 is the D3s but such a huge upgrade in all respects, focus, WB, color, speed, feel. In every aspect it is fantastic. I have fallen in love with my lenses again, images are so clean and sharp. Love this camera

I do nature, automotive, and aviation photography and my god there has never been a better camera to do it on. The clearness of each photo, the focus capabilities, and the over-all feel of the camera is like no other. If you have the opportunity to buy this camera do it. It'll change everything for you.

The camera I've dreamed of owning is now in my hands. Honestly I have to admit that I was more than a little intimidated at first, now it feels like my best friend. The camera feels tough and solid in my hands,I'm a long time Nikon user and cannot be happier with my purchase.

I have them all from the D2 up.. many have been great, but ive always been left with something i wish was better or found something missing. The D5 IMO is the most complete tool Nikon has produced. I liked my D4. Loved my D4s. But this D5? Brings a smile to my face I didnt know I could have. I shoot sports, so quick focus lock, high (10k) iso capability, great ergonomics are essential. Check, check, check!

The new Nikon D5 does not disappoint. It's action focusing, face recognition, increased continuous shutter speed, increased pixel count, and increased light sensitivity make this truly profession DSLR the best on the market. Attached is an un-retouched image taken at 1/250 of a second, f/2, ISO 100, 105mm, center weighted metering, and auto white balance. The skin tones are the best I have ever experienced right out of the camera.

Pictures are breathtaking. Fluid in every way. Controls follow in the Nikon scheme. Would recommend tremendously as a purchase that would carry you 5-10 years of use.

Its been a long wait! I made it up through the ranks to own a Nikon F5, back in 1997. Now it sits in the closet! Didn't think I would be able to afford the Nikon body. Amen to wedding photography!!! LOVE MY D5...just getting to know her! Love using it along side my D810! Can't say anything negative, bought the dual XQD version. Love the speed, low light & 4K Video!!

As advertised! I'm able to shoot quality pictures at higher ISO settings than with any of my other Nikon cameras. Additionally, the D 5 always takes the shot when I press the shutter-release button so I no longer miss some great shots because the camera isn't processing fast enough. The D 5 is expensive but my only regret is that I didn't buy this camera sooner.

If you need high frame rate, it get's it done. If you need low light/high ISO images, it get's it done. If you need to shoot verticals, it gets it done. If you need to shoot tethered, it gets it done. If you high res without megapixel overkill, it gets it done. If you need to shoot in the rain, it gets it done. If you need a HUGE buffer and lightning fast throughput, it gets it done. If you need fast and accurate autofocus, it get it done. Whatever you need a camera to do, the Nikon D5 get the job done every time.

Phenomenal dynamic range. I taken a couple of thousand photos already and the D5 has proven itself to be a truly remarkable machine. It has replaced my aging D3 which I thought I loved but not any more. There are numerous subtle improvements but the near flawless images in low-light high ISO settings is nothing short of fantastic. This is going to fundamentally change how I approach a subject.

D5 ....WHY THE BEST ? In feruary of 2016 i went to Yokohama ,here in Japan , and i take pictures with D5 and D500 . The best cameras for wedding ARE D5 and D500 D750 D7500. The D5 is able to 8160 pictures with one charge batery ;able to 400 .000 pictures ;the Nikon in 2015 did the speed 4 that gave to camera fantastic speed for photo and video ,in about 30 per cent better than speed 3 ;and in 2016 they started the speed 5 with D5 and D500 ;this processor is faster and strong 40per cent better than speed 4 ; D5 and D500 have a special white balance for skin very very natural ;Why 20 megapix ? because 20 megapix is Ideal for video makers = able clear video >and talking about light this SPEED 5 is able to take photo in low light = the D5 and D500 they are the best Ev -4 ---the auto focus is able to make photo with the light of the noon ,for example . The D5 is very good on hand [ergonomics] protect from wet and dust ;and more points mettering, until F8 ; if i can make a comparation , think like this =the body of camera is like a car ;and lens are the powerfull motor ;.....so Lens of Nikon are the best of all kind of work . ...........example 14-24mmf2.8 24-70mmf2.8E VR ;new 70-200mm f2.8 E VR ;[24mm/20mm/28mm f1.8 ] ,DX16-80mmF2.8-4 E VR ,24-120mm f4 all of this are N tipe of lens that means they have wonderfull colors and make auto focus perfect ;and of course even the lens kit 18-55 /18-140mm that are amaizing lens [hight quality and sheep] ; This is nikon -they make the best for each one and everbody ;and for me the colors of nikon give my best photo i have taken too with others cameras like D7200,and show for my friens [D5500 dx 35mm 1.8 / D7200 18-140mm f5.6 VR ] i had using LS jpeg Fine and everbody thought that i did with photoshop ,but no it is j-peg NIKON !? So nikon is beautifull photo !!!

I just got the camera last Friday and shot a 2 day event with it. Indoor winter guard to be specific. It is a sports type activity performed inside. I had been previously using a pair of D7100's and I am markedly impressed with both the picture quality and accuracy of focusing. My keeper, usable photos went up from about 80% to 95%. I haven't pushed the extremes on it just yet but look forward to exploring what can be created with such a capable too. The learning curve was not too terribly steep coming from the D7100's to a D5. Although I am far from completely versed in all its features and functions, I was able to put it to use right away and capture the images I desired without undue trouble or complications. The detail and color reproduction are outstanding. I like the amazing battery life and the speed with which the XQD cards works.

Most amazing low light low noise camera ever owned. However autofocus while better than last Nikon d series cameras I've owned still lacks the AF speed for high speed sports.

The AF tracking is incredible. Would recommend for anyone thinking of upgrading from the D4.

Having used Nikon cameras for the past 14 years, both cameras seemed very familiar from the first touch, however, I did have some questions. How could the D5 improve on the spectacular D4s? How much has the D500 improved over the aging D300S it’s meant to replace? And, finally, how does the performance compare between the D5 and Nikon D500?

Replacing the D4s at the top of the Nikon lineup, the Nikon D5 is an FX-format DSLR that sets several new benchmarks in speed, sensitivity, image quality, and even in movie recording. The eye-popping top native ISO sensitivity of ISO 102,400 and expandable Hi-5 setting, ISO 3,280,000 (yes, 3.28 million!) is claimed to capture details and colors beyond the limits of the human eye.
Key Features
Nikon has revamped its AF system, utilizing a Multi-CAM 20K autofocus sensor module. With 153 focus points (99 cross-type), Nikon has packed the entire image area with focus sensitivity goodness that can practically see in the dark. They’ve goosed the system with a dedicated AF engine that works with the 180K-pixel RGB sensor, and claim very reliable AF performance in a variety of shooting scenarios.

High-Speed shooting tops out at 12fps with both AF and AE tracking on. A new mirror drive mechanism keeps the viewfinder image stable during continuous shooting even at high speed. If you’re using a 2933x QXD 2.0 memory card, you can capture up to 200 12-bit lossless compressed RAW images in a single continuous shooting burst.

We’ll say it again: The new FX CMOS sensor, combined with the new EXPEED 5 image processing engine, will deliver the highest non-boosted top ISO in Nikon history. Until now, you could only reach ISO 102,400 if you boosted the sensitivity, but in this case, it’s native. Nikon says the broad dynamic range is greater than ever and if you do want to go beyond human vision, you can boost to H5 for the aforementioned, mind-boggling, astrophotography-friendly ISO 3,280,000.

Connects 2x as fast as the D4s with both wired networks via the built-in Ethernet connector, or wireless networks via the optional Nikon Wireless Transmitter WT-8. .

The D5 will come in two flavors, based on which memory card format you prefer: QXD or Compact Flash. Either way, the camera will have two card slots.

Shoot at up to 4K resolution in 30, 25 or 24p. You can shoot at boosted ISO 3.28 million in video mode.

The D5 has a super-high-resolution touchscreen LCD monitor that specs out at 3.2 inches, with 2.359k dot resolution.
