Bought this for in-laws two or three years ago. Would describe them as enthusiasts, but not gear heads. They've been thrilled with it. I cant speak to image quality, and since this camera came out, there have been numerous updates, plus intro of mirrorless systems and rash of compact superzooms. But that said, they've loved it and used it relentlessly.

Easy to use, but low resolution leaves you wanting. Only useful in sunny environments or in places where the lcd screed would be a disturbance (plays, theatre).

The camera is one of the best superzooms available. Having said that, the placement of the buttons near the thumb rest is extremely annoying, due to accidental engagement while composing shots. The zoom is limited by it being power actuated rather than manual. Battery life is excellent, but always buy this camera with a spare so you won't get caught out. DO NOT leave the camera running between shots, as this will quickly deplete the charge. It is much better to power down between shots that are more than one minute apart. I was able to get 400 shots per charge using this technique, but only 150 when not turning it off. I think the autofocus drains the juice. Overall a very forgiving camera, but with limited manual control (max. aperture is f8.0.)The onboard prests are very good at doing their job, but in low light, the colour tends toward the brownish yellow end of the spectrum, making things a little unnatural. An ideal camera for taking on long trips due to it's programs, fast computer, image quality and wide zoom range. One of the things I noticed in my example was that the lens tended to widen the subject, but I was able to correct this easily in the paint software that comes with Microsoft Windows by reducing the Y-axis to 95%, while leaving the x-axis untouched.

Many useful features normally found only on slr's. Be sure to time to read the owners manual to fully understand the capabilities of the camera.

This camera continues to amaze me! The ease of use and the quality of the images is fabulous...if I want to allow the camera to think for me, it's easy...and if I want to take control it's doesn't take long to figure it out...the manual was helpful to get started...I'm beyond thrilled with the FZ35!

I'm happy with my new camera however I didn't tried all it's features since I've got it just 2 or 3 weeks ago. It's faster and has a better IS then my previous one,[Lumix Panasonic DMC-TZ4].

This replaced my Canon S5IS. The picture quality is better as is the shutter lag. It is also lighter. I only wish the batteries were standard AA size like the Canon so back ups were always available.

I returned it! This got great reviews; was expecting much better performance. In low light, this big lens barely beat out my pocket point& Shoot Fuji with a tiny, fixed lens!

As soon as I started using it I knew it was special. I shot a clear photo of an eagle in a tree from 200yds from a moving boat! I have a bumble bee in mid air. At full zoom and using auto mode you might need to stablize it with a monopod or leaning agains a solid object. Owned it for 6 months and still love it.

I'm an old school Nikon 35 mm SLR photographer. BUT, it's been clear for some time that I needed to make the up-grade to digital. I'm still a little leary of "point & shoot" cameras. BUT, after doing some research, I decided on a Panasonic FZ35K, and have been extremely happy with it. [...]

I bought this to replace a stolen FZ50, but I found out the FZ35 is not in the same category at all. The display LCD doesn't flip out. The lens retract too deep and cannot mount a filter adapter all the time. The tripod hole is too close to the battery compartment cover. If I put a tripod adapter on the camera, I cannot open the door. No flash level adjustment. Picture quality is quite good overall.

I use this for grab shots and walking a trail that dosen't require a SLR, family functions. Great pictures on program ,colors good, noise level very good. Only 12MEG on RAW otherwise 10.5 on high jpeg. Raw processer is slow, has lots of features.

I have had this camera for about a month now. I am having trouble getting clear, sharp pictures. I took it to a family wedding and was disappointed in the pictures. It seems to be having a problem focusing on the main subjects. Not sure if it's the camera or the settings I am using. Any suggestions would help. I am hoping to get better results soon or I may be sending it back.

I ordered and picked up the FZ35(my first Panny camera) in Washington state. Then we went to Vegas. Without the chance of practicing, I shot P, A and many different scene modes. The night scene/portrait results are great. FZ35 is also more compact/lighter than the Canon Sony equivalent. It's much smaller than I expected. 2 kinds of video output. MOV and MTS. Both are good enough at 1280x720. You can use free FormatFactory to edit MTS. You sure can zoom while filming. Sound isn't bad.It generates a tiny bit of noise even at ISO100 if the picture is underexposed. The low ISO noise can be removed easily with Lightroom. And there's no advanced manual in the box. Only in CD or online PDF. There's basic manual in the box though. You have to press and hold about one second to get the top buttons respond. I guess it's to prevent from touching them accidentally.FZ35 is packed with a lot more functions and options than my Sony A300 dSLR was(and probably all the entry level DSLRs). Its 2.33 fps continuous shooting speed is limited to 3 shots only. With my Patriot Class10 SDHC card, there's almost no waiting time after 3 shots. i.e. The camera is ready right after taking 3 continuous shots.[...] Better price than its competition at the time of my purchase.

I have been a non-commercial photographer for nearly 60 years and have a degree and long career in Photographic Science. I normally use a Sony Alpha 350 but sometimes need a long telephoto and also a macro lens. The two lenses I bought with the 350 don't cover those needs and to buy two additional lenses would have cost upwards of $1,000. The FZ35 provides me the capability for both and I bought it at 1/3 of the cost of additional lenses. Also, without the bulk of carrying a long telephoto and macro lens. In normal lighting and under my usage and at similar settings I've tested it extensively side by side with the Sony DSLR, which is an excellent camera and have found it equal, except as otherwise noted, and in some cases the lens slightly sharper. In low light situations, the quality of pictures is good up to ISO 400 for up to 8x10, but beyond that noise increases quickly. On the other hand I have applied noise processing software with excellent results up to ISO 800. The camera is feature rich which always complicates settings in the field for best results. In features you get more than you pay for though and should accept the learning curve in order to get the features for the money spent. It's an excellent camera in that respect. The image stabilization is excellent without question. For my uses, it is a very good adjunct to my DSLR for the particular applications I need. As an all around capable camera for general use by anyone under a very broad range of circumstances, this is an excellent choice. In rendering a particular worthy scene, the quality of the output is half the photographer and half the equipment.

Amazing camera. How Panasonic put all these features into one small body is just short of miraculous. It has all the features of a simple 'point and shoot' yet has the capabilities of a DSLR. It is quite complex and yet can be easy to use. It just depends on your level of expertise. You have to download and print the manual from the included CD, and this manual is a formidable document, but if your really into digital photography, you will enjoy exploring all the possibilities and functions that this camera posesses. I did recommend this camera to a friend, and he promptly ordered one after he heard about it from me. Its not a camera you can put into a pocket (unless you have huge pockets) but its extremely light and easy to use, once you have mastered it. If your new to digital photography, this camera could be intimidating to new photographer. I bought this camera because I wanted a replacement for my large and heavy DSLR and its lens assortment, for an upcoming trip to the middle east and eastern mediterranean. I'm sure this will fit the bill.

This is a well designed camera with sharp lens that starts at useful 27mm wide angle. The video is also very sharp and you can zoom while recording - a bonus. It is light weight and battery life is very good. Start up and lag time between shots are minimal and packaged software is useful. I also have Nikon P90 and older Fujifilm zoom models but I like this model better than all other zoom P&S. Only limitations with this camera and just about all other point and shoots are POOR LOW LIGHT performance. This is the problem of using small sensor and loading more megapixels without incresing sensor size - all leads to grainy high ISO photos. Everyone should follow Canon's lead and use larger sensor (1/1.6 or 1/1.7 vs. smaller 1/2.33) and lower megapixel number and use larger size pixels in the sensor and design lenses with larger aperature. You want low light performance, go with Canon S90 or G11; otherwise, this is a great all around zoom p&s at a great price.

Corrective power for visibly clearer zooming. Hybrid still/motion images with POWER O.I.S. and an 18x optical zoom
AVCHD Lite Beautiful HD movies, extended shooting time:
The FZ35 records HD movies with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution. It uses the AVCHD Lite format (MPEG-4/H.264) to achieve higher image quality while storing less data than the conventional Motion JPEG. Plus, the FZ35 is equipped with an HDMI output terminal for direct transmission of digital image and sound signals. Just connect the camera to an HDTV using a single HDMI mini cable (optional) for fastand easy slideshow enjoyment.
Creative Movie mode:
You can adjust the aperture and shutter speed any way you like. This mode gives you a wider range of expressive possibilities to explore in your movie making.
Zoom-in movie:
You can zoom in and out while shooting movies. Stereo mic: This camera features Dolby Digital Stereo Creator, which records dynamic, true-to-life audio to bring out the power of your HD images.
IA mode (Movie):
You can also use iA mode to shoot movies, and let the camera doall the work for you.
High-speed response for truly intuitive shooting:
Enjoy high-speed 1.2-second start-ups, AF speeds of approximately 0.3 second, and up to five consecutive shots at 2.3 frames per second with full resolution. You can also take up to 470 photos with a single battery charge (CIPA). This comfortable level of performance lets you capture eve n the most fleeting shutter chances.
Wide-angle 27mm LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens and 18x optical zoom:
The bright F2.8 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens ranges from 27mm wide-angle all the way to 486mm telephoto. Combined with the double*(*Panasonic comparison) corrective power of the improved POWER O.I.S., this makes it possible to capture subjects clearly without hand-shaking, even in the telephoto range.
My Color mode puts you in control of the color:
In this mode, you can freely adjust the color, brightness and saturation parameters. This makes it easier and more fun to create interesting, expressive images. Adjust the settings that best suit the shooting conditions and your expressive intent, and then enjoy your own photography.
