Unless you're truly scraping by in this business, I have no idea why anyone would even consider buying any c-stand other than American Grip. Once you've worked on several decent productions you'll realize that American is virtually the ONLY c-stand you'll ever see. Occasionally you'll see another beat-up brand (one or two mixed in with the Americans)... and when you use it, you'll immediately understand what makes American so good. All c-stands are heavy, but these are the lightest of the bunch AND they're the strongest AND the knobs and knuckles are tougher than nails! It's simply a NO-BRAINER... the $20-40 per stand that you'll save (max) will haunt you for the LIFETIME that these stands will last! I've used Avenger and Matthews. Avenger c-stands are super-heavy... stupid-heavy... and all the collars are bolted on and clunky. Matthews isn't terrible, definitely better than Avenger (BTW I have other stands from both companies and like them)... but nothing compares to the classic precision of these here. The reason to buy them from Adorama is this is the cheapest place to get them. They said my stands were backordered... and it took a while for them to arrive, but the price is (obiously) great, and Adorama also raised their stock with me (yet again) with excellent customer service! American sent me the wrong arm, and Adorama took care of it. Super-smooth... and NO BS... just how I like it. So... best c-stands? American... EASILY. NO-comparison, and they last a lifetime! WHY SKIMP?! Best place to buy c-stands? Adorama, best total price (including shipping) and if you have any issue, they've proven they'll stand behind the sale and make things right at no cost to me. When I add more c-stands to the kit (may not need them, or maybe I'll get some Coleman's right now)... I'll definitely be getting them here. I wish it was economical to ANODIZE these black (meaning American do it and sell them as black)... HOWEVER... anyone who knows c-stands knows that they support tons of weight and this rides on the precision of the risers. They can't PAINT them black, like normal stands... that I get, but I wish they could anodize them black. Of course if they do that, I'd be "forced" to buy all new c-stands because that would be the coolest thing ever, but there's a reason why this is THE stand that almost every PRO uses. One day with one and you'll understand.
