Today, Canon announced the new Powershot SX70 HS, a powerful bridge camera with 65x optical zoom, 4K video, RAW format recording, and more. This new release is the successor to the SX60 HS, which debuted in 2014 and received generous reviews.
The SX70 HS includes a 20.3 megapixel sensor, a DIGIC 8 processor that can achieve five-stops of image stabilization without a tripod, and even high-speed continuous shooting a a rate up to 10fps.
“In this day and age, cameras are becoming smaller while the desired list of features continues to grow,” Canon USA President and CEO Kazuto Ogawa announced in a release. “Canon continues to be committed to incorporating the latest features in our compact cameras and the new PowerShot SX70 HS is our very latest version, providing the dynamic combination of a compact body, powerful zoom, and robust features that photo and video enthusiasts alike will love.”

The addition of 4K makes the camera an impressive recording device in a fairly lightweight package. The camera includes 4K 30fps video, as well as 1080p 12fps capabilities, all in a 1.34-pound body. It can also produce 4K frame grabs and capture 4K timelapse videos. According to Canon, this is also the first Canon point-and-shoot to be compatible with .cr3, the latest RAW format.
The SX70 HS also includes a 0.39-inch (2.36-million dot) HD OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) that is seamlessly switched to when raised to the eye, thanks to a brand new eye sensor.
The camera can achieve continuous shooting at up to 10fps, and if you’re telephoto shooting, the new Zoom Framing Assist option can help in composing your frame and adjusting angles. The SX70 HS has Canon’s EOS-like user interface, which means it features a larger ergonomic grip, and easy WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity for instant sharing options.
