Along with a new NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S lens and a Z 6 Filmmaker’s Kit, Nikon has announced that a collection of upcoming firmware updates to the Z 6 and Z 7 is currently in development.

“The Nikon Z series will continue to adapt to changing user needs through the development and roll-out of firmware updates to meet and exceed creative expectations,” the company announced. “Taking into account feedback from photographers and creators, Nikon will display three feature updates under development that open creative opportunities for the Z 6 and Z 7.”

CFexpress

The first in the trio of updates is support for CFexpress memory cards, which will be compatible with the existing XQD card slot, giving users additional options for memory usage.

Eye AF

Nikon has also announced that Eye AF is in development, which is sure to expand your portrait, event, and street photography arsenal. The feature will automatically detect your subject’s eyes, keeping them in focus during shooting.

RAW Video Support

Finally, rounding out the firmware updates is the addition of RAW video format support, an exciting announcement for video production. The cameras will support the ProRes RAW codec with compatibility with the the ATOMOS Ninja V.

Nikon has not yet announced the release date for the firmware updates, so stay tuned for more details.
