E3 is back this year with a whole new virtual gaming show. On June 3rd, E3 released its schedule alongside what fans can look forward to: “A four-day virtual event that will feature digital presentations from major industry publishers such as Nintendo and Microsoft, panel discussions, celebrity appearances, exciting reveals and more.” The virtual show kicks off on June 12th and runs through June 15th. Let’s breakdown what to expect and what we’re hoping to see!
Saturday June 12th
Ubisoft and Gearbox Entertainment will be kicking off the first day of E3. Ubisoft has been developing “Skull and Bones” since 2017 but, due to multiple delays, we are unsure when this game will be released. I’m hoping we can get some new gameplay footage for this action-adventure revolving around pirates and naval warfare.
Sticking with Ubisoft, it wouldn’t surprise me if we see some new “Far Cry 6” gameplay and maybe even a playable demo. E3 is known for their playable demos and I’m hoping they release an exclusive look. Potential Ubisoft reveals may also include “New Assassin’s Creed” and “Watch Dogs: Legion DLC.”
Moving onto Gearbox Entertainment, most fans are hoping for more “Borderlands” content. It’s possible Gearbox will have a big announcement based on their tweet back in May. Will we see a new franchise?
Sunday, June 13th
Microsoft and Bethesda have their first E3 showcase as one team and all eyes will be on this event. There are some big questions circling: Will Microsoft make Bethesda IP’s exclusive? Will we see new “Starfield” content? Microsoft would be remiss not to showcase new “Halo Infinite” gameplay. Last year, Microsoft missed the mark with a lot of fans with their “Halo Infinite” reveal and this would be a great way to win them back. We may even hear a release date.
Microsoft’s strongest service is Xbox Game Pass. With over 23 million subscribers, Game Pass has become king of the digital gaming subscription world and there are tons of rumors circulating for E3. Could Xbox showcase a partnership with Valve for Game Pass? What new exciting games will they add to their ever growing library? Will they acquire more PlayStation Exclusives like they did with “MLB The Show 21?” We know Xbox acquired numerous studios in the past. Let’s see if those reveals start to open up.
Bethesda has been working on two huge games: “Elder Scrolls 6” and “Starfield.” I don’t think we’ll get any new content on “Elder Scrolls 6” but we may get a sneak preview of “Starfield.” The bar is set very high for this showcase. Let’s hope it delivers!
Later in the day, Square Enix has a presentation as well. I’m hoping we see new “Final Fantasy” content and “Marvel’s Avengers Black Panther” gameplay.
Monday, June 14th
Monday has a big focus on indie developers and I look forward to hearing what has been in development since some of my favorite games over the past couple years have been indie. I’m hoping we see an update on “Kena: Bridge of Spirits” by Ember Lab, “Stray” from BlueTwelve Studios, and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge” from Dotemu.
Capcom has a presentation as well and fans are hoping for a new fighting game. It’s possible we’ll see a new “Street Fighter.”
Tuesday, June 15th
The last day is all about Nintendo. I’m thinking we might just get a peak of new “Breath of the Wild 2” content. I’m holding out hope for an update on “Metroid,” but I wouldn’t be surprised if that doesn’t happen. The biggest gaming rumor of 2021 has been a new Nintendo Switch Pro.
