Sony today widened its lineup of zoom lenses by adding two new wide-angle zoom lenses for Sony full-frame E-mount mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras. The Sony FE 16-35mm is a pro lens with a constant f/2.8 wide aperture, joining the 24-70 and 70-200mm f/2.8 models, while the Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 is the widest full-frame E-mount lens to date from Sony.
With the introduction of these two lenses, the Sony full-frame E-mount lineup covers from 12mm-800mm (when using the teleconverter).

The FE 16-35mm f/2.8 is a pro-level “G Master” lens and rounds out Sony’s lineup of pro lenses, offering high resolution from corner to corner, pleasing booked, and precise, quiet autofocus with pro control and reliability, according to Sony. Two original XA (extreme aspherical) elements and three aspherical elements are claimed to minimize aberrations that are common to wide-angle zoom lenses. Two ED glass elements prevent chromatic aberration.
It also has two Direct Drive SSM employed as a floating focusing system that ensures AF acquisition is fast and quiet, making this lens a good choice for both stills and video. The lens is dust and moisture-resistant, has a fluorine coating on the front element to prevent dust and grease marks. A customizable focus hold button and hood release button are also included.

The widest full-frame zoom lens produced by Sony, the near-fisheye FE 12-24mm f/4 G is compact and lightweight, weighing only 20 oz, and is a good choice for landscapes, architecture and real estate photography, and is suitable for stills and videos. The lens is dust and moisture resistant. Sony claims outstanding resolution at all apertures and focal lengths.
Sony says the lens offers an innovative optical design resulting in corner-to-corner sharpness and resolution. An inner focus mechanism contributes to fast AF acquisition while keeping the lens a consistent length throughout the focus range. Focus drive is handled by an advanced direct drive SSM system that offers smooth and quiet focus. The lens consists of ED and Super ED glass elements to suppress chromatic aberration, while the Nano AR coating surpasses flare and ghosting. The lens has a constant f/4 wide aperture for consistent exposure throughout the zoom range.
