As a pro skimboarder and wakesurfer living in Southern California, I am always looking to push the boundaries of what can be done. That means having a compact camera that has the durability and flexibility to capture multiple perspectives in crazy environments is a must.
Ever since I laid hands on my first GoPro in 2012, these action cameras have been an essential tool for showcasing my experiences like no one else can. GoPro has always been a big unlock for me. It produces high-quality videos and photos. Also, its size and portability is an absolute game changer. I’ve traveled and shot with my GoPro all around the world and was fortunate enough to be one of the winners of the first ever GoPro Million Dollar Challenge. So, you can imagine I have a lot of love for the company. When I got my hands on the new GoPro HERO10, I had very high expectations.

The team at Adorama challenged me to put the HERO10 to the test. It’s safe to say I accomplished that mission. I only had a handful of days to capture as much dynamic content as possible. I hit the road in California to Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch to ride in some perfect barrels and to test the slow motion capabilities of this camera.
GoPro HERO10 Performance:
GoPro made a ton of improvements on this camera. Some of the changes that I am most excited about is the video quality. There is an insane range of slow motion capabilities that are all equally important: 5.3K 60fps, 4K 120fps and 2.7K 240fps. I’m constantly doing dynamic movements like airs and turns when I’m skimboarding, surfing, or skateboarding. Being able to slow down footage is critical for me. Oftentimes, explosive movements are quick and may only last a second. Although, 2.7K 240fps gives me the ability to slow down one second of footage to eight seconds while still retaining maximum quality. The 4K 120fps is probably my favorite setting and one that I think everyone will freak out about. The ability to shoot 4K and create silky slow motion footage is now an essential of mine.
The 5.3K 60fps is definitely something to be very excited about as well. This is the highest quality footage I have ever seen in an action camera while shooting 5.3K in slow motion. Also, I can pause any moment of my footage and pull a 15.8MP still photo that looks legitimate. All of these video settings, plus HyperSmooth 4.0, equals some of the butteriest footage.
Overall, the HERO10 exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend adding it to your camera bag. It doesn’t matter if your main focus is capturing action sports like me, vlogging, or first-person view (FPV). If you need an all-in-one action camera to step up your content creation, then look no further. The GoPro HERO10 is for you.
The GoPro Hero10 is available at Adorama for $499.99.
