A week of hands-on workshops, classes, photo walks, panels, and more, is coming your way this summer. Adorama Inspire will officially kick off on June 25th and will go through July 1, bringing you designed-to-share experiences for all forms of visual storytelling. 

In the heart of New York City, Adorama is joining forces with some of our biggest brand partners to give you the education, inspiration, and tools you need to create the content you want. Whether you’re looking for instruction and innovation about photography, professional video, professional audio, or drones, these experiences will give you hands-on and real-life training, all with on-location experts.

Monday, June 25th: 

  • Maternity Photography with Tracie Maglosky, 2PM: Shoot alongside Olympus Visionary, Tracie Maglosky, as we explore lighting, posing and styling your maternity sessions. In this workshop, attendees will photograph a live model and are sure to leave confident in maternity posing flow and lighting. Register now.
  • Finding Your Street Photography Voice, 4PM: Featuring a visual presentation by key Street Dreams Magazine photographers who will discuss their personal styles and how to find your voice as a street photographer. Register now.
  • Art of Visuals Presents: Be Visually Inspired, 6:30PM: Prince McClinton, founder of Art of Visuals, one of the world’s largest creative communities inspiring over 1 million people daily, sits down with amazing artists and creators to discuss photography, video, travel, and the business of content creation. Join us live in NYC or online via Instagram live with @adorama and @artofvisuals. Register now.
  • Sunset Photography with Rick Sammon, 6:30PM: Join pro photographer and Canon Explorer of Light Rick Sammon at Brooklyn Bridge Park to capture the lights and color of New York City from a unique vantage point. Learn composition, exposure and how to use slow shutter speeds to remove some of the reality from a scene. SOLD OUT.

Tuesday, June 26th: 

  • Rock and Roll Portrait Lighting Workshop with David Bergman, 1PM: Canon Explorer of Light David Bergman will show attendees how to produce a high energy music portrait from start to finish. During this live shoot with a real musician, David will take folks through his process of working with subjects, camera settings, and lighting using small flashes for easy travel and setup. The skills learned will translate into any kind of portrait photography. Register now.
  • Planning & Executing a Fashion Editorial with Emily Soto, 4PM: Emily Soto, whose bold yet playful images appear on magazine covers, in editorial spreads and campaigns for national clients, will instruct attendees on how to plan and execute a fashion editorial. In this workshop, she’ll go over concept development, keys to following a mood board, casting, lighting and equipment, scouting and final images. Register now.
  • Night Sky On-location, 7:30PM: Join photographer Stan Honda for a night sky shooting session in Central Park. You’ll learn the basics of photographing celestial objects with a digital camera and ordinary lenses. Participants will have views of the NYC skyline as well as the open sky above as darkness falls. Learn composition, focusing, reading the histogram, using the right lens and what to look for in the night sky. Register now

Wednesday, June 27th:

  • Stylized Children’s Portraits with Tamara Lackey, 10AM: Join Nikon Ambassador and Profoto Legend of Light Tamara Lackey as she shoots stylized portraits of children, walking through lighting, posing, composition and expression as she goes. She will also share her gear choices, multiple lens selections, and various lighting scenarios throughout the portrait sessions. Register now
  • Creative Elements of Architecture: Out With the Rule Book, 11AM: As an avid traveler with an eye toward graphic elements, one of Nick Frank’s favorite subject matters is architecture. Participants will meet at the Adorama store, then after a short presentation travel to the Freedom Tower and Oculus. Ticket price includes admission to the Freedom Tower Observation Deck.   • SLR Lounge Hands-On Wedding Photography, 12PM: Join SLR Lounge and Adorama for a hands-on wedding photography workshop with top wedding photographers Vanessa Joy, Danielle King and Paul Von Rieter. Register now
  • Belmont Horse Racing Workshop with Dave Black, 12PM: Join Nikon ambassador Dave Black for a trip to the famed Belmont Race Track for a day of photographing and learning about horse racing… and all that the “Sport of Kings” offers. Register now
  • Mark Wallace’s Favorite Lighting Set Ups, 4PM: In this fast-paced workshop, Mark Wallace walks through his favorite portrait lighting setups. Mark will discuss the gear he’s using (and why), metering techniques, options for each setup, and show the results while shooting live. Mark will talk about the lighting principles behind each setup so that you can apply it to your own studio and gear. This workshop is 2 hours of information that’s perfect for the beginner or intermediate photographer. Register now
  • Hoey vs. Wallace — Pointless Photo Challenge 2018, 6PM: Photography can be a serious business sometimes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun along the way. Adorama TV’s Gavin Hoey and Mark Wallace will take on some fun, but slightly pointless, photo challenges. The challenges will be shown to Gavin and Mark for the first time when they walk on stage. They have no idea what they’ll be asked to shoot! Discover how two photographers approach the same challenge in their own way. This lighthearted session will last 2 hours. Register now.
  • Ask an AdoramaTV Host LIVE!, 7:30PM: You’ve seen them on AdoramaTV, now see them LIVE! Get your questions ready for your favorite AdoramaTV hosts. Mark Wallace, Gavin Hoey, Tamara Lackey, David Bergman and Daniel Norton will be live in NYC for an exclusive panel-style Q&A session. Cocktails to follow. Register now

Thursday, June 28th:

  • Portrait Kit that Won’t Quit with Gavin Hoey, 1PM: When space is limited you need gear that can do more then one job. In this 2 hour live portrait lighting demo, Gavin Hoey will show you how he gets double use out of almost all of his kit. This workshop is perfect for beginner and intermediate portrait photographers, especially those who work in small home studios or simple like to get maximum value for money from their gear.   • The Strengths of Speedlites and Strobes, 2PM: Francisco Hernandez is an on location professional portrait photographer that specializes in off camera flash. Knowing the ins and outs of his gear is extremely important and it took years to gain this knowledge. In this photo walk you will get the best tips on how to maximize your lighting whether it is a speedlite or a strobe. Both types of lighting have the ability to create great portraits, but each has their strengths which you will learn along Francisco in the beautiful scenery that is New York. Register now.
  • Using Light Efficiently and Working Fast with Rob Hall, 5PM: Robert Hall has spent the last decade photographing over 600 weddings. Typically working alone, he has always had an appreciation for the technique and technology that allows him to create dynamic images quickly. Up your off-camera flash game by attending this photowalk and putting the laws of light in action. It’s a great way to speed up your workflow and get hands-on with the most efficient lighting tools on the market. Register now
  • A Night with Sony, 6PM: Join Adorama and Sony for an evening of demos, food and the opportunity to test out the latest Sony gear. All with a spectacular view of the NYC skyline. Begin the evening with a Sony Artisan presentation. Practice shooting alongside Sony Alpha Collective members on the scenic Manhattan Rooftop space with models onsite for photoshoots.   • Manhattan Skyline at Night, 6PM: Join photojournalist and Lumix Global Ambassador Kevin Gilbert and friends to shoot a different view of the Big Apple. After a group ferry ride to a special location in Hoboken, the group will meet up with models/athletes to do some creative portraiture set against the backdrop of the city. As the sun goes down and maybe a thunderstorm rolls through, we will get creative and shoot long lenses and long exposures, lining up the Statue of Liberty with other magnificent NYC buildings.   • Sunset Photography with Rick Sammon, 6:30PM: Join pro photographer/Canon Explorer of Light Rick Sammon at Brooklyn Bridge Park on June 25th from 6:30 to 9 PM to capture the lights and color of New York City from a unique vantage point. Bring your camera, wide-angle zoom lens, maybe a fisheye lens, tripod and neutral density filters. Learn composition, exposure and how to use slow shutter speeds to remove some of the reality from a scene. If you bring a speedlite, Rick will show you how to master daylight fill-in flash in 12 minutes or less. Register now

Friday, June 29th and Sunday, July 1st: 

End the week with the Adorama Expo, where you will have hands-on opportunities to test out top equipment in real-life situations and shooting set-ups. The Expo will take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 W. 18th St.) where photographers will have portrait setups and a runway with cameras, lighting, and tripods. 

Cinematographers will have the chance to shoot a live graffiti mural artist and test out drones in an enclosed done net, while audio pros and musicians will get their hands on podcasting and home recording equipment, as well as musical instruments in demo situations.
