NAB 2018: JVC Unveils New ‘Connected CAM’ Broadcast Camcorder Decoder, Compact Streaming Studio, and More

From cameras to audio production equipment, JVC has released a host of new products at this year’s National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB) in Las Vegas. The company unveiled three new cameras (including one with a lens option), as well as a decoder and compact streaming studio systems for your production needs. 

Here’s what you need to know about JVC’s latest releases:

The GY-HM250 is a full-featured professional camcorder that provides 4K Ultra HD video and includes capabilities of streaming full HD (FHD) directly online. The unit includes a 4K CMOS sensor with 12.4 million pixels, and a 12x optical F1.2-3.5 zoom lens (which also comes with a tele-macro focus mode), as well as a lower-third and full-screen tilting solution. 

The unit features the brand’s IP communications engine, which allows for remote control of the camera and lens by your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Using RTMP protocol, you can also live stream videos directly to Facebook, YouTube, and IBM Cloud. 

Alternatively, JVC has also announced the JY-HM250SP, the same camcorder with a sports overlay.

The GY-HM180 is a compact 4K camera that features a single 1/2.3-inch CMOS image sensor with 12.4 million pixels and an integrated 12x F1.2-3.5 zoom lens. The camera allows for 4K Ultra HD recording (UHD) at 70 Mbps, 24/30p to SDXC/SDHC (Class 10) cards, and at 150 Mbps, 24/30p to dual SDXC (UHS-I Speed class3) card. 

The unit allows for 120fps HD recording, and 4:2:2 Full HD (24-60p) recording at 50Mbps. It also holds a 3.5-inch color LCD display, HDMI outputs, 2-channel XLR audio inputs, and a 3G-SDI output for HD.

Available with or without a 20x zoom lens (check out the lens-added version here), the GY-HC900 is a “connected CAM” broadcast camcorder that includes three advanced 2/3″ CMOS image sensors for high sensitivity.

“JVC’s CONNECTED CAM takes connectivity to the next level and sets a new benchmark for ENG cameras,” said Joe D’Amico, vice president, JVC Professional Video, in an announcement. “Its integrated communications engine truly makes news-over-IP a reality with amazing images and a cost effective, streamlined workflow.” 

The unit includes an industry standard B4 lens mount and includes 50 Mbps 4:2:2 10-bit recording (at H.264), as well as 1080p slow motion recording (at 120fps). It also has dual memory card slots for SDHC/SDXC media, a 3.26-inch OLED color viewfinder, and a 3.5-inch LCD panel.

To make live production and streaming easier, JVC has lunched its compact rack unit, the ProHD Studio. The unit includes 4 HD-SDI inputs, 4 IP Stream inputs, 4 NDI inputs, 1 Ingest input for HDMI or NDI with transparency and allows for true 4:4:4:4 ARGB video processing with a full featured audio mixer. 

The unit is also available with a sports overlay that includes SCOREPLUS, and allows for real-time graphics software that gives you easy-to-use sports graphics on the spot.

This professional grade, high performance IP decoding unit provides broadcast quality decoding of HEVC or H.264 streams up to 1080p60 4:2:2 10 bits, and includes dual 3G-SDI, HDMI2.0 outputs. With a private LAN/WAN network, you’ll also be able to redistribute an incoming stream.
