MSI recently launched three new, dynamic gaming laptops for preorder: the GS66 Stealth, GE66 Raider, and GE76 Raider. These powerful gaming laptops pack NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards, capable Intel i7 processors, 32 GB of memory, and 300Hz displays into modest laptop designs. While they share similarities, each laptop has slightly different features, which we’re breaking down for you today.
Key Features: MSI GS66/GE66/GE76
- 15.6” monitor on GS66 and GE66, 17.3” monitor on GE76
- Full HD, anti-glare screen
- 300Hz refresh rate
- 1 TB or 2 TB SSD
- 32 GB RAM
- NVIDIA RTX 3070 or 3080 graphics card
- Intel Core i7 processor
- Windows 10 Pro
Exceptional graphics card and fluid display for smooth gaming
The GS66, GE66, and GE76 are mostly designed for gaming. Each laptop comes with NIVIDIA’s RTX 3070 or 3080 graphics card, and the latest Intel Core i7 processor. Both graphics cards are capable of lofty frame rates at max gaming settings, but if you want more of a boost, the RTX 3080 is the way to go. (For reference, both graphics cards run PUBG at more than 180 effective frames per second at max settings when benchmarked.)
Now, these impressively powerful graphics are rendered useless without the proper display! That’s why the GS66, GE66, and GE76 laptops are designed with full HD resolution and a 300Hz refresh rate. The high refresh rate may seem excessive, but when you’re running games at more than 200 frames per second, 300Hz ensures a fluid, responsive gaming experience.
To round it out, MSI included 32GB of RAM in every model and the choice of a 1TB or 2TB SSD. Gaming doesn’t truly require 32GB of memory, but it comes in handy when running other memory-heavy applications such as video editing or music production software.
Differences among GS66 Stealth, GE66 Raider, and GE76 Raider
The core specifications in all three laptop models are the same: processor, graphics card, storage, RAM, and operating system. But, there are a couple differences in secondary features.
The GS66 is a part of the MSI’s Stealth Series, while the GE66 and GE76 fall within the Raider series. Being a part of the Stealth Series, the GS66 comes in a slimmer and lighter build than the other two models, and has a different set of I/O ports than the Raider Series. The Stealth Series also lacks the aurora lighting design that spans the front of laptops in the Raider Series.
Probably the most notable contrast between the two series is the fan and cooling system. The Stealth Series houses the Cooler Boost Trinity+ system with small, 0.1mm blades, while the Raider Series uses the new Cooler Boost 5 with larger fans and spacious heat pipes. The cooling system on the GE66/76 may operate more loudly, but it will keep the laptop’s operating temperature lower when running hefty programs for longer periods.
Lastly, as noted in the features breakdown, the GS66 and GE66 have 15.6-inch screens, while the GE76 rocks a 17.3-inch screen. The change might not seem like much, but larger screens go a long way in gaming and content creation.
