For travelers, weekend warriors, or those looking to upgrade from their smartphone, Sony has released their latest Cyber-shot camera, the HX99, which boasts a 28x zoom and has 4K video recording capabilities.

The camera includes a powerful extreme zoom range — it’s 24-720mm — in what Sony calls the “world’s smallest camera body of its kind.” The high-magnification zoom and high image quality Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens gives you high magnification in a pocket-sized body.

The impressive lens — which features 18.2MP — includes Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to reduce camera shake, and also features Zoom Assist that allows you to effectively pick up far-away subjects when zooming, while displaying a larger area. The camera allows you to focus on your subject in as little as 0.09 seconds, which means you can locate and capture fast-moving objects in a snap. It also features the Eye AF technology that you’ve come to love on Sony cameras, as well as RAW format capabilities, and 10 fps continuous shooting.

On the video side, the HX99 packs in 4K video that includes a full pixel readout, but no binning. You can shoot high-frame rate slow-motion HD video in 120fps, in large part due to the camera’s BIONZ X processing engine.

The HX99’s tiltable screen — it can flip 180 degrees — means you can take selfies or pose for group shots with a preview of your ultimate image. Touch Focus and Touch Shutter options, and a Touch Pad are available for use using the retractable OLED viewfinder.

All of these features are contained within a 4-inch-by-2.28-inch camera body that weighs just 8.54 oz.
