“Shoot. Edit. Share.” is a fitting motto for Zeiss’ latest release. Announced at Photokina in Cologne, Germany, the new ZX1 is Zeiss’ first full-frame mirrorless camera. The camera sensor was developed in-house, and delivers first-class image quality. Exceptionally crisp photos paired with a creative workflow system makes the ZX1 a worthwhile checkout. Users can snap a photo, edit immediately, and share it with the world. Just like a smartphone, but a lot cleaner.

The details you need to know:

  • First full-frame mirrorless camera by Zeiss
  • 37.4 megapixel sensor designed in-house
  • Newly crafted Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/2 lens
  • Integrated Adobe Lightroom CC for processing RAW files
  • 4.3” multi-touch display
  • 512 GB of internal memory supports up to 6,800 RAW files or 50,000 JPEGs
  • Wifi, Bluetooth, and USB-C connectivity allow for immediate uploads of photos to the internet

As mentioned excessively above, this is Zeiss’ first full-frame mirrorless and it’s built with a new 37.4 megapixel sensor made in-house, as well as a fresh Distagon lens, which means that the give-and-take between the sensor and the lens leads to sharp images. The photographs come out less flat, the edges sharper, and the colors vibrant.

Aside from the impressive technical feats, the ZX1 feels nice in the hand. The body is ergonomic and the display has a slight bend for a clearer picture. These may seem like small details, but when you’re out and about shooting most days, small details add up to a more efficient and comfortable experience.

Edit:

The coolest feature of this new release is the integration of Adobe Lightroom CC software into the camera. Users can handle the entire post-production process right on the 4.3-inch multi-touch display, wherever they are. After taking a photo, shooters can increase the exposure, darken the shadows, fix the color temperature, or maybe throw in an s-curve for good measure, right on the spot. The creative workflow has become seamless.

Users are always connected with the Zeiss ZX1. The new release has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB-C port. With Wifi connections, the user can upload their creations directly online to keep the blog and Instagram feed instantly updated. Along with WiFi, the ZX1 packs 512 GB of available storage so shooters can shoot, edit, and share without having to deal with an SD card or hard drive. No more fears of malfunctioning hard drives or lost memory cards here.

The Zeiss ZX1 is slated to be released in early 2019. Stay tuned for more.
