Review Summary
The Bonica Snapper Dive HDDV underwater digital media camcorder features the innovative XP system (stands for extra protection) that safeguards the camcorder against moisture by having a completely water-tight silicone skin around the camera, much like a dry suit. While inside the Skin, the camcorder is an all-weather camcorder fit for all outdoor activities. The Skin protects the camcorder from rain, snow, sand and scratches. When the camcorder is inside the hard housing, it is ready to be submerged to 180'. In case moisture gets inside the housing, the digital camera is fully protected.
The Bonica Snapper Dive DV is a miniature camera that resembles some digital still photo cameras in its vertical layout. It has an 2.4" LED display monitor built in for new levels of power and space efficiency with increased light output and faster response times over traditional displays. The Bonica Snapper Dive DV does not use video tape for recording but uses ASF file format onto inexpensive SD cards. In fact, a 4 GB card will record over 90 minutes of video. Because the recording process uses no moving parts, the card can be reused far more times than a video cassette. 5.0 Mega-pixel digital stills, digital stabilization and a built in video light are just some of the many features this stylish camera comes with.
The included Bonica MT-09 Video Light is designed to provide a clean and natural light source. The light provides the underwater videographer with even lighting coverage and a constant light temperature. The lamp produces a bright 5000° K light which is needed to bring out the true natural colors of the underwater world. The power is switchable from 50 to 25W. The compact light is constructed of aluminum and is rated to a depth of 330' (100 m).
The light uses a Lithium-ion Polymer battery that is included. This gives you a continuous burn time of 45 minutes on full power and one hour on the low setting. The light comes with a tray and handle that allows you to attach the MT-09 to many small camcorders including the Bonica Snapper Dive HDDV. Also included is a fully adjustable arm. This allows you to aim the light in any direction. Lights are extremely important for your underwater imaging system. The ocean is one big, blue filter. As you descend, the reds and oranges quickly become muted shades of blue and gray. Shining a color corrected light source on your subject will bring back your subjects natural color. This kit also includes a water-tight hard travel case.
