Good tripod for 3D scanning

Manfrotto 290 Xtra kit is wonderful. Have a cheap tripod that I was using for astrophotography. Was very difficult to adjust and hold framing.  No such issues with the 290. Ballhead is very smooth and easy to adjust. Used it to capture Pleiades with no issues. With 15 lbs capacity it had no trouble with Pentax K70 plus 80-200 zoom and astrotracer. Can easily mount a star tracker camera and lens. Being a three section leg system it is a longer than travel tripods and about five pounds in weight. It is very stable. Recommended. I got mine on sale which was a plus

I've always been a fan of Manfrotto gear. I have a 3021 that I've had since 1985 and its used a lot and it's still going strong. I purchased this tripod to use while hiking in the woods.

Manfrotto MT290XTA3US 290 Xtra Aluminum Tripod

Product arrived as advertised and works well.  The only concern/complaint I have would be related to the mounting block that attaches to the scope.  There?s a locating pin to reduce swivel while in place and the pin diameter was too large to fit in the scope so I had to remove it and not use it.  Not a big deal, but would have been nice to have an option to use a smaller pin or at least to have known this was something to look for.

Great tripod, but wish it came with cleats to use it outdoors or on very plush carpet & padding.  It works wonderful on hardwood and tile flooring with my Matterport Pro2!!

Manfrotto makes great tripods to start with and this is not the only Monfrotto tripod I have ;  This tripod includes a very nice ball head with levels  and has a respectable weight capacity.  One bonus feature also has a removable leg so you also use as a mono pod.  I have run into situations where your only options are only hand hold or mono pod.....

A very nice Tripod !

I was very excited to buy the Manfrotto 290 Xtra carbon Fiber tripod from Adorama.  It was light weight to the point that it was unobtrusive carrying it all day. One of the other things I liked about it, was the way the center post can be lowered or raised. On most tripods, with the center post in the low position, the tightening wingnut bumps into the quick release, or camera.  On this tripod, you can pull the spring loaded wingnut away from the camera and rotate it until it no longer binds with camera or mount. This allows you to tighten easier.   I also liked the fact that this tripod has clamps for the legs instead of screw locks.

I waited a long time to receive this tripod, and have used it once, and on a steep hill to boot.  I wanted a solid tripod with flip-locks on the legs rather than twist locks, and that is what I got.  The flip-locks engage well and I didn't have to do any adjustment on them out of the box.  The tripod feels quite stiff  and stable under my camera.  I would prefer the tripod have positive locks on the leg fold-outs.  These legs pull out, and there is a latch you must activate to open them to further stops, but the legs can just be pushed back to vertical.  While I was setting up on a steep hill, I needed to be careful of the legs trying to fold back on their own.  I'd like the tripod to be a bit lighter and fold up smaller, but I'm satisfied with what I got.  I found carbon-fiber tripods that don't have twist locks are hard to find.

A Good Tripod So Far

A very solid tripod which should do well with the gimball head and supertelephoto lens.

This is the nicest tripod I've ever owned. It sets up so easily. I like the clamps to lock the legs. Not hard to do, but very sturdy. The head is a little awkward to use. I'm not used to the two controls and haven't quite figured out which one does what. But all in all, it is the BEST tripod I've ever owned.

Great Tripod! Work every cent I paid for it.

I have owned Manfrotto tripod for many years and love it.   So when I needed to up grade to a heavier duty tripod the decision was easy.   This tripod is the quality I expected, all the parts work smoothly.  I am happy with my decision to purchase Manfrotto.

Manfrotto does not disappoint

Light weight, sturdy and easy to setup.  I shoot action sports with a CanonD1X and Sigma 150-600 (both heavy gear) and it works just fine.

Excellent Tripod

This is my third Manfrotto product. I also have a lighter weight travel tripod, as well a monopod. I haven't put this newer tripod through any lengthy testing, but my initial impressions are that as with my other Manfrotto items, it is well made and seems to be very sturdy and quick to set up. I would highly recommend Manfrotto tripods.
