Great Idea. I bought one.

There was a problem with the two stage trigger switch, but the manufacturer took care of the replacement switch installation. I'd protect the unit from damp or humid storage that might ozidize the switch contacts. Also, I chose orange color because of the unit when using the black color, it might be mistaken for some kind of weapon thus calling attention to the law or security. By the way, buy the folding feet for the front of the unit. I liked how they worked in my nature shots.

valuable tool

The shutter release cable is easily damaged and expensive to replace. Otherwise the shoulder mount is a valuable tool.

Pricey piece of hardware

These shutter releases seem to wear out from time to time are are damaged if you drop your camera or set it down on the connector.

Save your money

For the price it should be made of something other than plastic! The idea is super but I don't think it will last

Can't handle a 500mm F4 lens

I purchased the Bush Hawk for wildlife/birding photography. My favourite lens is a Nikon 500mm F4 which is quite heavy. I use the lens with a heavy duty tripod with a gimbal head which all together weighs in at about 13 lbs. I hoped I could use the Bush Hawk in lieu of the tripod but it is too difficult to hold the camera/lens steady and carry it for any distance. It works well with a much lighter lens. I would recommend it for this purpose.

Product is overpriced for its quality

I am not satisfied with the quality of the product: Bush Hawk Shoulder Mount with Double Handle, BH 320D Pro Kit. Right out of the box cable, to trigger camera, fall apart, after I plugged it in as intended. In regards to the trigger button, I would say it doesn't have such a notion as "press button halfway to focus". That means, that you have to actually take a shot and then it might focus eventually. Literally, you don't have control of your camera focusing with this trigger. The shoulder strap attachments are made of plastic and I wouldn't rely on their durability to carry on my shoulder, for example, my Canon EF 300 mm 2.8 IS lens attached to Canon 1D Mark IV. Taking into consideration the materials, craftsmanship, functionality of the Bush Hawk Shoulder Mount with Double Handle, BH 320D Pro Kit I would say it was way overpriced at [$] I paid for. The price they are asking now ([$]) is totally ridicules and absolute rip-off. I am returning this item and I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. If you need a shoulder mount there are better alternatives you can find and buy. Don't buy this item and you wouldn't sacrifice your camera functionality.

Ditch that tripod!

I have used a Bush Hawk for several years and would not be without it. I normally use a Canon Mk III with a 400mm L on the unit .I stopped using a monopod and tripod because of the Bush Hawk. You have to adjust the rig for your body and camera. I have my camera mounted with a quick release at an angle for my eye and for where I hold the unit to my shoulder or chest. I rotate the lens mount for proper horizontal level. After you have the unit adjusted for your camera and lens you will be amazed at how improved your in flight shots are. Use the same basic techniques as you would shooting a target rifle and it will be better than a static tripod since you can move with it. I replaced the supplied sling with a rifle sling and I carry it over my shoulder with no problem. Once adjusted it is a wonderful addition to your camera gear.

try before you buy...

It's ok for times when you can't use a tripod/monopod. It really excels with flight photography where mobility is required. The extras in the kit like the window clamp, cord box, carrying case, shoulder strap and shoulder pad are kind of worthless for me. The shoulder strap is too short if you want to carry your camera cross shoulder like a bandoleer for increased stability and the shoulder pad keeps coming off the stock. But for the same cost of the stock, camera release and second handle - I guess the free extras in the kit make it ok. The shoulder strap attachments also make the camera hang upside down... I would recommend this with lots of caveats and a "try it first before you buy it" disclaimer.

A must have for nature & action photogs

I saw this product in Popular Photography and got it last year for Christmas.. I love it, the only 2 complaints are the shoulder strap and the pad. I had a new pad custom made that's far more comfortable. The other issue if the factory shoulder strap.. Save your shoulder, get a skooba strap & a couple clips and you'll be amazed and in wonder. Personally I'd pay an extra $10-$15.00 to have it come with a skooba strap.

Great product, work better than expected

Requires mounting the lenses slightly crosswise (est 20 degrees, to bring the camera eyepiece comfortably to the eye. Mounting lenses straight along the axis requires a tilt of the head to reach the eyepiece. The system allows this adjustment without too much trouble. Having both hands supporting the weight of a heavy lens with the convenient trigger button adds to the handholdability of lenses like the Nikon 200-400 zoom. Focus and trigger button works smoothly. System is highly adjustable and well made considering its light weight. Shorter lenses could benefit from including a rear lensmount extension plate.

Great for Bird Flight Photography

This is great for taking photographs of birds in flight to and from the nesting areas. It gives greater stability in hand holding telephoto lense setups and improves tracking them in flight.

Great product, but...

This product is well made and solid, but it does need lots of practice before taking into the field. Also, if you mount a Quick Release bracket on it, you may need to use a Dremel or other tool to file down a space so the QR lock can sit clean and can move back and forth. Due to the high-quality composites used the filing is quite easy to do. I use a Manfrotto QR bracket system for my Nikons.

Fantastic!

I do nature photography with a Nikon D300 and Nikon AF VR Nikor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED. I am using the Kirk replacement collar and the Bushhawk provides excellent stability. It is a little cumbersome to pickup the unit with the lens attached but once I have it to my shoulder it is excellent. I belong to a local Camera Meetup group and several members said they will be purchasing one after they handled my unit.

No problems. Smooth transaction.

Great little device. Works well with 100-400mm zoom lens. My 400mm 2.8 lens is still a little too heavy, I still have gotten some good shoots with it using the Bush Hawk.
