Review Summary

Filter does as advertised with the high quality I've come to expect from B&W Filters. Both pictures were taken with an Olympus E-520, ISO-100, F/2.8, Focal Length = 12mm. The first, the reference picture, the shutter speed was 1/250 sec. The second, the IR picture using the B&W 092 filter, the shutter speed was 3 seconds. This gives an overall filter factor of 750. Taking into account the advertised 20 to 40 filter factor for the filter this leaves the internal E-520 IR blocking filter with a factor of 25. Bottom line, IR photography is possible with a E-520 using this filter if the camera is mounted on a tripod.

What sets the 40.5mm Infrared Filter #092 (89B/RG695) apart is its high-quality construction and innovative design, tailored for the discerning photographer who specializes in infrared photography. This durable filter, crafted by B&W, a leader in photographic filter technology, is an essential tool for capturing the unseen world of infrared light.
The #092 filter is a versatile choice for both black and white and color infrared films. When used with black and white infrared films, this effective filter blocks light wavelengths below 650 nm, ensuring that only infrared light reaches the camera sensor. This results in striking images that reveal the unique textures and contrasts of the infrared spectrum.
For photographers working with color infrared film, the #092 filter excels by producing vivid, pure red images that capitalize on the film's lower sensitivity to infrared light. This allows for the creation of photographs with a surreal and artistic quality, making it a favorite among creative professionals and enthusiasts alike.
The filter's innovative design includes a filter factor of approximately 20 to 40, which requires an adjustment in exposure to achieve the desired effect. This factor is a testament to the filter's ability to transform ordinary scenes into extraordinary infrared landscapes.
Crafted with precision, the 40.5mm Infrared Filter #092 is a high-quality, durable, and effective choice for photographers who demand the best in infrared photography. Its ability to filter out specific light wavelengths makes it a unique and indispensable tool in a photographer's kit. Whether capturing the subtle nuances of a landscape or exploring the artistic potential of infrared photography, this filter offers unparalleled versatility and performance.
